I just slap on what I think looks good, fuss around with modes and the saturation bars and sometimes add a filter xD using complementary colors can create a lot of vibrance so in Overkill I like to use orange/cyan! That palette seems to work really well with wasteland settings (just look at mad max fury road! owo)
