Xanthoria (Patron)
Added 2021-05-21 21:54:11 +0000 UTCA plague is spreading across the Sword Coast. Some sort of fungal infection that seems to send animals wild, destroys crops, and causes humanoids to repeat the name Xanthoria over and over until they die. Whatever this is, it is clearly magical in origin. Can your party find the source of this plague before all of the Sword Coast is lost?
This is a fun dungeon crawl but it has a couple issues. The first is that the party could easily walk straight down and end up missing a majority of the dungeon. The way to resolve that is to make sure the party knows that a Lich has a phylactory that must be hidden somewhere in this lair if they want to permanently end the threat of this plague.
The other issue is one that is not easily solved. The adventure just sort of jumps straight into the dungeon crawl part. The only resolution to this issue is to add in more build up. Unless you're using this as a one shot, you may want to start incorporating in references to a new disease spreading across the sword coast and possibly a random encounter or two with diseased creatures. Start small and rapidly build to this being a problem. This is a global pandemic in the that started in the Sword Coast, not just a local problem. Yes, it is easily cured with a lesser restoration, but it spreads to quickly for clerics to have the energy to cure it from everyone. Plus some are refuse to allow for a chance that those government sponsored clerics to charm and control them. We've all been through Covid so you know the drill if you want to make this story into something bigger.
