If I have to conclude something about my process it's that I am usually straightforward with what I want as a base for my drawings, dynamic poses and interesting angles are always a win for me, it's not always about the style and good proportions, if your composition game is down your characters won't shine as much in my opinion.
About how I begin my drawings, I see myself pretty often starting any kind of body with the faces and eyes, they may not be the center of attention in the picture but after quickly sketching a general position of the body I take my time drawing the head and give more detail to it than I should, I feel you can pretty much summarise the intention and feeling of the whole body by knowing what kind of face the character has.
I don't believe there an specific way to draw when you know the tropes, so venture and find your starting point can always be something interesting.
