The 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 was powered by a supercharged 2.3-liter straight-eight producing roughly 155hp at 5200RPM. Power was transmitted via a 4 speed manual gearbox. The chassis was a pressed-steel ladder chassis with rigid axles, semi-elliptic leaf springs, friction dampers, and mechanically actuated finned drum brakes on all four wheels. The short wheelbase Le Mans cars measured about 2,750 mm between axles.

In 1936 Italian Grand Prix organizers chose to utilize Monza's Florio layout with FIVE additional temporary chicanes around the 7.17 km circuit.
