[NR] Rosha's Past Research - Chapter 600

Jason looks up as he hears something coming. And to be honest? He is a little disappointed when he sees that it is Rosha and Courtney. When he decided to stick around the clearing, he had expected a bit more action.

Instead, his experience was mostly being left alone. Sure, there were plenty of normal animals and even monsters that stumbled upon his domain, but they just as quickly stumbled their way out. Oh, that was one change during his time. Jason could feel the edges of the clearing and had decided to call it a domain because territory felt too “animal” when taking the location into account.

Rosha waved, “Having fun?”

Jason rolls his eyes, “I’m too strong, everything runs away.”

Rosha, “Probably doesn’t help that you lack a distinct scent. You’re relatively strong and yet animals have a hard time picking you out. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you also didn’t have much of a heat signature.”

Jason, “What are you talking about?”

Rosha runs the last little bit between them and holds her hand out, “Shake my hand and I’ll tell you!”

Jason, “You’re going to tell me anyway, but whatever.”

Then he shakes her hand, except she doesn’t let go, instead maintaining a tight grip for a moment or two. Rosha sighs, “Just like I thought.”

Courtney gets to them at this point, “What did you think? We only talked about the first bit.”

Rosha shrugs, “Kinda hit me right now. Anyway, Jason, you don’t get dirty. It all kind of slides off. Even your clothes seem to get some benefit from the effects of they’re close enough to your skin.

“On top of that, you’re tepid at best. While your skin is above room temp, it isn’t by much. I bet for any critter with heat vision, you practically fade into the background.”

Jason holds his hand up in front of his face, “Huh, that’s odd, though not too surprising. I’m more curious about the whole dirt repulsion thing.”

Courtney, “We think this might have to do with the way you have your Energy set up. As if it was creating a static field around you to prevent dust from settling. After all, you do get dirty, even if you seem to lack sweat as well. It takes actually getting into the dirt instead of just getting dusty while traveling. I’m actually kind of jealous.”

Jason rolls his eyes, “As if you couldn’t learn a cantrip that does the same sort of thing.”

Courtney, “Maybe if I was an earth focused mage I could prevent trail dust, but you should very well know that dirt and dust isn’t just soil. What you have is basically a low level barrier magic on constantly, right above your skin. I bet it even helps reduce how wet you get in a light rain.”

Jason, “I’m not saying I’m not interested. It’s something I’ll have to explore later. The effect is exactly game breaking. After all, I still get wet when I walk in water.”

Rosha, “Yeah, but maybe you could change that!”

Jason, “I’m definitely going to look into it, but it feels like something Qi users probably already have down.”

Courtney shakes her head, “Qi is internal. It can change your skin so stuff slides off, but can’t prevent things from actually landing on you in the first place. Though I guess someone focused on electricity could probably get a natural static field going. However, the power itself is always in the body, not coating it or some such.”

Jason frowns, “That will make it harder to figure out. Would have been nice to have an example to work off of.”

Rosha, “I don’t really get it, but you’ve got that whole ‘void’ thing going on. Probably where the heat thing comes from. Anyway, if what you look like is a shell, this whole Energy shield thing is just another layer. I remember reading about something?

“Kirlian photography? Whatever, in the past, it was touted as a way to snap a picture of a person’s aura or some such. It wasn’t, instead being about how electricity coronas off a person.”

Courtney coughs, “Electrical coronal discharge.”

Rosha nods, “Yes, that. Anyway, the whole nonsense wasn’t supernatural or anything, just having to do with moisture content. However, while that was hogwash, maybe you’ve got something like that going on? After all, from how you described Energy working, it isn’t like you have a pool of Energy. You have a stream of Energy and so once full, the excess must be going somewhere and I assume you would notice if it was back flowing.”

Jason, “That is an interesting idea, but why in the world do you know that?”

Rosha shrugs, “Psionics are real, just not very useful. Always have been, as far as people can tell.”

Jason, “And what in the world does that mean? It isn’t like all these rogue powers bumping about irl have always been there. I would think that if psionics were real, there would be some mention of it.”

Rosha shrugs again, “Like I said, it isn’t very useful. Sure, you can prove psionics with statistics. In fact, even before the Internet fully bloomed, there was some research showing such oddities. The problem being that no one cares if a statistically significant number of times a card is drawn, you can predict which card it is. Because what is statistically significant isn’t going to win you millions playing poker.

“It wasn’t even accepted until after all the odd powers had gotten out and scientists started looking for that kind of thing again. Though it certainly doesn’t help that the most powerful examples come from life and death circumstances. Scientists can’t tell you to predict at least five of the next ten drawn cards or they’ll kill you. Especially since you need to actually mean to kill them.”

Jason, “Interesting, but why do you know this? I can accept the concept of psionics since it matches up with some of the spiritual abilities people in my last life would gain by strengthening their souls. It is the fact you know something so obscure that confuses me.”

Rosha shrugs, “Eh, you might remember how I was into scifi games before NeoRealm? Well, psionics tend to be the mainstay of those types of games, being a sort of scientific magic, if you will. So yeah, I delved into the subject a bit and since it was technically real, my family didn’t care that I spent so much researching it.”
