[NR] Roguish Bards - Chapter 474

The group's exit from the dungeon goes mostly unnoticed and from there it is a quick trip back to their inn. Once there they settle down and begin to actually plan out what they each need to complete the dungeon.

Rosha was easy enough. She just had to hit up the local guild office for the generic scout skill package. This was going to cost at least 3,000 gold, mind you. However, her family was going to cover a good portion of it.

Courtney wasn't as pampered, though she was still going to get a bit of financial assistance. Plus, any skills she might want to pick up would be more specialized and so harder to find. That left getting a new healing spell based around curing poison to take care of any potential trap mishap. Available, but expensive since such a skill is in demand and while not a variant, the local version does a better job against the dungeon's poison.

It is with Jason that the money gets so tight there might not be room to fit everything. He only has about 1,700 gold and a couple things he could sell. Maybe enough to buy the gear he needs.

After all, Jason doesn't need just any pieces of armor. He needs something for his chest and head. About the most important bits of gear you can have.

Though, if it comes down to it, he isn't against cheaping out on the chest armor. Jason was mostly certain the System wouldn't let him get away with playing the headless horseman anytime soon. However, the reason protecting the chest is so important is the fact it holds all those vital organs like the heart.

Jason wasn't completely immune to getting stabbed through the heart of course. The catch is that it wouldn't be instant death for him and if Courtney can fix up the outside, his cultivation technique will dust the internal problems under the rug and turn it into pure HP damage. A thing which is much easier to heal.

Besides, it isn't like high level beings in this world can't manage without a heart for at least a little. Jason was just ahead of the curve. Though not having a heart could certainly be seen as a unique take on the matter.

So with their goals in mind, the three have a good night's rest before splitting up the next morning. Rosha and Courtney stick together for a moment as they go to receive their cash from the family.

On the way Rosha mopes, "I don't really want to depend on them for this."

Courtney nods, "That is completely fair. However, for the moment we need that extra bit of gold and we might as well soak them for it. After all, it isn't like we couldn't get everything for you without them. This is just so you don't have to sign any contracts with the rogue's guild.

"They aren't a thieves or assassin's guild, but they aren't exactly clean either. At least this way we're dealing with the devil we know."

The two go quiet after that until they meet up with their contact. Said contact is a nice enough looking girl who after bowing, hands over a bag full of cash, then leaves. No words are spoken, though the fact that they had to receive the gold in person instead of getting it transferred to their irl bank accounts says enough.

Both however ignore the behind the scenes power plays, and split up once they get the gold. Of course in theory with what they want, both should be heading towards the Adventurers Guild. Except the healers decided to only sell the more generic version of the antidote spell there. Instead keeping the more specialized version within the walls of their compound.

Courtney can understand this move. After all, the Guild does a lot to keep prices fair as well as taking their own cut. This being counter to what the clerics and doctors want.

Sure, they're nice enough people out to heal as much as they can. However, someone has to pay for their work and a skill like this is about the best option for pulling in that bit extra. Courtney shakes her head and enters what looks like a fusion of a hospital and a fort.

At this point, Rosha has reached the Adventurers Guild. Just looking up at the structure makes her sigh. The building is the same as the last, like one of those old video games, so much so you almost expect the person manning the desk to look the same as well.

She of course knows this wasn't something built into the game, but rather the Guild showing off. Few organizations are strong enough to do something like this. They even have halls in places where the rules would expressly prohibit a building like this, yet no one says anything.

Not that the Guild is purposefully combative for this sort of thing. Rosha had heard of a place that limited the height of any building. While the Guild didn't build their hall any shorter. They did build it in a dug out pit, such that the hall didn't break the skyline up.

Rosha shakes her head, enters the building, and goes straight to the training area. Once there it isn't hard to find the trainers she'll need. They might not be a thieves guild, but the rogues certainly keep up the aesthetic.

She grimaces at having to deal with them, but standing around isn't going to teach her the skills needed for the dungeon. So, she walks over to the corner that is dark only because they've covered up the lights for dramatic effect. "I'm going to need a general scout package. I've already got some of the training though, so don't think you're going to have me paying full price."

From there it goes downhill for her, as she gets more and more frustrated with what are basically roleplayers. After all, bard types also gather in that guild.
