[Closed] Deciding the Short Story Prompt for September 2022
Added 2022-09-03 07:29:12 +0000 UTCBelow are the full prompts as the poll doesn't allow the full text. I'm going to run the poll for five days. The short story will be finished by the end of the month and will be available to all patrons.
- Summoned by a Cat!? As a Divine Champion answering the summons, You examine the surroundings where You have manifested. You see a rather large cauldron, shelves of magical reagents, a black cat staring at You from a workbench, more shelves containing potions, and the summoning circle with You at the center, though curiously there is mercury splashed across it from a spilled vial beneath the cat. This is evidently a Witch's lab, but oddly no sign of the Witch, or anyone that could've summoned You for that matter... 'Meow~~' Heeding Your Master's command, You search for ingredients to prepare breakfa- WAIT WHAT!?!?!?
- Dragons are the weakest. Typically Dragons are portrayed as one of the strongest creatures on a planet. Well typically that may still be true. However dragons have a rather embarrassing planet of origin or it may be better said a terrifying planet of origin. On this planet save for some insects that could wipe out your typical fantasy cities dragons are the lowest of the low. It can be said that even the gods avoid this planet. Though fortunately only some dragons have left the planet keeping the rest of the universe in relative safety.
- A Mage duel at the archmage or above level. A bit like in this monthly only the reverse of this month they try to be as flashy as possible both actually lovers they try to make the other party look good. While trying to avoid much collateral damage. Maybe throw a spell that looks impressive at bystanders only so that the other mage can valiantly defend them. And maybe the reaction of some awed onlookers.
Comments
I would put that under being directly related to the story as Ben is if not one of the main cast, an important secondary. The closer something is to the story, the less likely it is that I would allow it. The fae stuff happened so long ago it is outside of the "now" whereas Ben's history could have direct effects on not just the story, but the current subplot.

2022-09-07 06:57:05 +0000 UTCAnother idea I am thinking about could be a deep dive into a minor character. eg. What is Ben's (D'sP Old town up river) backstory, pre-system? Things like that. Doesn't impact the current/future story, unless this brings up things you decide to mix into future canon. Just asking if those types of prompts are getting too close to the line or not.

2022-09-07 05:56:28 +0000 UTCThis has always been an option, though I've refined the wording. The original restriction said "Anything directly related to my current stories (I'm not against it but I want to try writing new things to stretch my skills a bit)" and now it says "No prompts about anything directly related to my current stories (can't be something the MCs would come across)". The original made it sounds like I didn't want any prompts based on the stories when that wasn't the case. I don't know when I changed it, but the new one says it better.

2022-09-07 03:16:15 +0000 UTCYes, it could also for instance involve events happening elsewhere that won't enter the story. This could involve the past, but it could also involve something happening at the current time but unrelated. That could either mean stuff happening elsewhere on the planet, in the fae court, or just on some other planet. I will try to fit things in, but if too many stories start popping up on the main planet I'll start limiting it so other short stories get a chance. Maybe something like only allowing one of the options to be in universe to the stories or similar such restrictions. Of course the more generic a prompt, the easier it will be for me to fit in. Asking for a the story of a warrior in a town near Doyle isn't going to fly, but just asking for a story of a warrior on the same planet as Doyle or simply in the D'sP universe would be easy.

2022-09-06 23:01:48 +0000 UTCQuestion about the rules for prompt submission. R2: No prompts about anything directly related to my current stories (can't be something the MCs would come across) Can a prompt be in-universe, but not something that will ever directly impact MCs? Eg, a historical event that was mentioned but not expanded on by Ally about the fae court?

2022-09-06 22:17:52 +0000 UTCHonestly I am not that fond of them. but I might go for dragons are weakest just to see what that planet is like.
