Regarding 221, Picard's assertion to Data was not about Data or his abilities. Neither about Data's role on the ship is nor about his 'Infallibility." "That's life," is less about acceptance but more about lack of control of outcomes, no matter who you are. Picard is presenting a philosophical argument, abstraction for perceived reality. He presents that, A level of uncertainty is nessisary or you will otherwise become trapped in analysis. Analysis is a substitute for understanding. The more you try to be certain of anything, the more uncertain you will become. I love the ideas presented in this episode. 1) Ironically it is Data who's confidence is challenged. 2) Arrogance is the absence of any doubt or uncertainty. 3) Humility involves the act of accepting a small healthy level of uncertainty. 4) Even under great uncertainty a solution will present itself. 5) Worf is an underutilized Master Hacker.

LazyBoy Stays Up Late Watchin Video Tapes

The 1988 writer's strike had a huge influence on TNG's second season. It was the reason the premiere was two months late, it was the reason only 22 episodes were produced, and it was the reason the finale was a clip show. But it was also the reason we got "Measure of a Man" - Melinda Snodgrass wrote that episode as a "spec script", she was not a regular writer on TNG at the time; and because of the strike, the staff needed all the scripts they could get their hands on.

DATA SOMETHING'S GOT ME!!!!! It's the only thing that really stands out in my mind when I think about this episode ... and it isn't even from this episode. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about Shades of Grey.

I don’t want to comment on a terrible/bad or good/great episodes before you watch as I don’t want to influence your knowledge of it.

Shades of Grey - not as bad as I remember. Forgot about the wrapper story idea of the plant bite. I think George has grown as a reactor, matured if you may say, when Simone said it just goes all the way in there he didn’t giggle or throw out a retort of what they said- bravo 🙌 . Interesting that Data initially sounded a little like Lore in that first exchange. “Riker just laying on that bed…” - never mind 🤣. The sexy moments had S & G blushing 😊. That Tasha stunt double wow nicely done- ouch
