Is anyone else listening to The Telepathy Tapes?

Is anyone besides me listening to this podcast? I kept seeing it recommended on Reddit, so I started listening about a week ago. I’m now on Episode 9. Haunties may be interested to know that Dean Radin (from our “Randonautica” episode) is interviewed in this podcast. If you’ve listened: what are your thoughts? The claims are pretty incredible, and while some of them I find easy to believe, I still feel skeptical of others. I would love to read your opinions in the comments! - Aly

Super interesting!

I think the criticisms are valid in certain cases (the possibility of the ideomotor effect when the facilitator is providing support at the wrist), but there are many examples described where that’s impossible. There are examples where the facilitator doesn’t know the answer (when the producer goes out to the garage and thinks of the word “friend” for example). The speed and accuracy described, it’s all too much to be some sort of learned body language communication between the speller and the parent/facilitator. It doesn’t hold up with Akhil, who communicates in another room unassisted. You can also see that while he’s spelling he’s not even looking at his mom, his eyes stay on the ipad. These examples with the huge amount of anecdotes from personal experience including two way communication are just too much to ignore. I just don’t believe that all of these people who’ve had personal experiences with these kids are delusional. Maybe some are, but it seems very unlikely to me that all of them are. The one kid who could play piano and has perfect pitch with no training. The communication through lucid dreaming story. I can’t say I know for sure that it’s true, but I don’t think they’re lying. They claim to be planning university backed studies, so hopefully that will clear some of this up. Remember the story from your podcast, I think it was one of the guests who told it, about the nun giving that girl the two thumbs up. How it was what her father would always do to try to cheer her up while he was dying. When Ram Dass met Neem Karoli Baba described in his book Be Here Now is another example. Duncan Trussell had a few psychic experiences with Ram Dass. Many extremely credible Buddhist teachers (Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg) all claimed that Dipa Ma and Neem Karoli Baba were telepathic. The kids in the Ariel school incident claimed the aliens communicated telepathically. Same with during the Pheonix lights, also Travis Walton, etc etc. Nat’s story of her friend getting too high on mushrooms and calling his dad with his mind. There’s so much. Regarding the religion/time/after life stuff, I really don’t know what to make of it. It’s all so fascinating. I’d love to hear you guys talk about all of this in depth on the podcast.
