2019-12-08 02:07:02 +0000 UTCQuick request/note on the unobtainium armor: while muonium armor would be cool if it worked, I have learnt since writing that that it wouldn't; muons don't Pauli-exclude with electrons, so all conventional-matter weapons will pass right through it. Please add, lest I need to explain this to questioners again. 😅 (Now, if you could build your entire ship and its crew out of muon matter, that would be a different matter...)

2019-12-07 01:49:37 +0000 UTCRe: the Galactica's main battery firing arcs, it's shown in the series that the turrets are on elevating pedestal mounts (dramatically lifting to show when the ship is going into action). It's never seen this way, but I always imagined the pedestals could be raised to different elevations to adopt a superfiring arrangement forward-aft or port-starboard as required. Which probably introduces a whole load of mechanical complexity that another layout might avoid, but at least it's something.
