August 24th Updates: Evangelion introduces some new folks!

It's hard to talk about without spoilers, but yeah, I think some of the fanservice-y stuff is probably done for reasons like that. Especially the stuff in these early episodes. There are some pretty wild total shifts in the show that feel like different people are pushing it in different directions.

I'm glad this show won as I never watched it due to not getting time to, so i'm glad i get to watch it with you , also couldn't help but laugh at the end because i immediately thought of the old Donkey Kong expanding meme xD

thanks for the info, it is unfortunate that the Creator had to suffer do much during production. definitely something I'll keep in mind. a friend of mine had told me that some of the questionable stuff was put in because the Creator was pressured or something along those lines? and I knew I recognized that shirt but it was not clicking for me lol

Also, on a more happy note- a few episodes of The Owl House ago, King was wearing the same pink crop-top with musical notes on it that Asuka wears in the dance training episode. :)

It's only gonna get more questionable. I don't know how much you know about the show's creator, but it's worth knowing maybe? Dude was a young rising star. An animator turned director. Then everything sort of fell apart. He was given the chance to make this as a sort of "last chance" in anime. So he ends up writing and directing this while seriously depressed and suicidal and dealing with his own gender and queerness. There's a lot of him working through things and trying to get better that ends up in the show. Production was also a bit of a mess, they basically ran out of money and time towards the end. The first movie (End of Evangelion) is basically a replacement for the final 2 episodes of the tv series. I don't know if I'd say watch it instead of those episodes, but that's basically what it is. A higher budget, less hurried and sloppy ending for the series. The other 4 movies are called Rebuild of Evangelion. Evangelion 1.0, Evangelion 2.0, Evangelion 3.0, and Evangelion 3.0+1.0. They're a sort of an alternate version of the story. They sort of start off in the same place as the TV series and then diverge. So they're very much they're own story. I personally enjoyed them, especially the last one, more than the original series. The only thing I think you'd probably want to skip is called Death & Rebirth, which was basically a partial preview of one of the movies. Not really worth watching. EDIT: Gotta love Patreon's text editor. :p
