Also, adding to Ashlyn's fun facts: The eccentric operatic rock music that plays throughout Utena is written by J A Seazer. Seazer wrote the music for experimental underground films and theater during the 60s. Ikuhara loved his work with new wave film director and dramatist Shuji Terayama, who's influence can be seen in Utena. Ok, that's kind of a long fact, I'm a nerd.

It's super long but you could skip to the Utena part. Ikuhara's shows are usually super dense, with obscure symbolism and references that are sometimes necessary to understand what's going on. So, if you ever feel confused, just know that there's probably no one who understands everything in Utena without help.
