Outriders was this way. It's kinda a sliding scale of difficulty and I only lowered it some, not all the way allowable

Dusty Beaman

Reese's. But really anything king-sized was a haul

Dusty Beaman

losing save file would be worse

Dusty Beaman

I wish they were more often audio logs OR at least the game offered to read them to you. I'd actually pay attention to them then

Dusty Beaman

You’ve gotta do that whilst your own legs are broken. Those who are already in that industry? Suddenly flooded with demand. Including themselves I suppose. The CEO of big wheelchair might demand his first.

Jake Eckert

I LOVED Outriders until the last narrative twist near the very end of the main story line. Then, I hated it.

Dusty Beaman

Great question. I'm not sure...Oldest game I can remember FOR SURE being all night is actually Kingdom Hearts 3

Dusty Beaman

I wanna get into wheelchair manufacturing and sales

Dusty Beaman

0% realistic in my opinion

Dusty Beaman

I try really hard to play only 1 "narrative" game at a time so I keep vibes and stories straight. Basically, any game that has a story, I count that as a "narrative" game. Narrative game I'm playing right now: Unknown 9: Awakening. Non-narrative game I am playing: Astro Bot

Dusty Beaman

Streamed video games. 14yo me would love that I think

Dusty Beaman

or made a joke about unknown 9 awakening

Dusty Beaman

I just finish building a custom Crazy Taxi arcade racer which now sits in my college classroom along side 11 other cabinets I own. Getting into home arcade has made me learn to appreciate how the form factor really does change the experience. If you could own ONE arcade machine, irregardless of cost or space concerns, what would it be?

Dan Childers

Hey minnmaxers. Have you ever played a game all the way through on normal difficulty with no problems, then on the final boss had to lower it to easy mode? Asking for a friend who beat Metaphor Refantazio.

David Edgar

Overall I still enjoyed my time with it, but I think the pacing and writing could have been better. That and the fact that Alex’s powers are essentially mind reading, and it’s never questioned that she uses them to get what she wants from people, including a relationship. By no means do I think it was awful, it didn’t didn’t live up to 1 in my mind.

Dill Pickles

What 'earworm' song does each of the MinnMax crew secretly sing when nobody is listening?

Zaph-Chancery

Hey folks, I'm currently playing Crypt Custodian which is a 3D Metroidvania/Zelda like where you play as a cat in the afterlife. It's made by a solo developer called Kyle Thompson. It's an extremely well designed game that has flew completely under the radar. The same dev also made a 2D Metroidvania a couple of years back called 'Islets' that was very good. Has anyone on the crew played either of these games? Finally I feel this would be an interesting interview if you reached out to him. Do it! Thanks :)

Brian Lyness

A spooky Halloween witch has cursed the MinnMax show panelists. For the rest of the podcast, each may secretly get possessed by a poor wandering spirit... specifically, the spirit of Ben Hanson of MinnMax. They will continue to speak and answer as Ben until someone says "Begone"

Adam

As a child, what candy were you most excited to receive while trick or treating and what is your favorite Halloween candy now that you are a grownup?

TheLastArcher

You guys excited for Halloween!? With the weather that’s turning out to be crap for the big day here in Minnesota. What do you do with the most likely dud Halloween’s such as this? I got a whole bunch of capri sun pouches that my wife and I will be drinking for the next little bit now while we watch something spooky. Side note with a question but that’s what we give along with our candy. Capri suns are $2.98 a 10 pack. Pretty reasonable price and I always wanted to be a fun cool house to go to for Halloween in some way. Full size candy bars are so expensive nowadays but I found kids get super excited when they get a fun little drink like that. You guys do anything fun when your Halloween isn’t a dud? Happy Halloween everyone and hope you have a great day!

Joshua H.

Hello everyone! Janice, I had the thought this last week that I don’t think I’ve heard anything about you and your man’s new setup/ office space place you talked about months ago. Maybe you mentioned something on another one of your podcasts or I just missed it. But what do you think!? How’s it been treating you? Is it what you were hoping it was gonna be? Thank you and I hope all is well!

Joshua H.

Why doesn’t Waluigi have his own game series yet? What kind of gameplay do you think it could/should have?

Jeff

Hey cohorts! With the abandonment of Concord and Firewalk Studios shutting down, what do you think will happen to Jade Raymond's Fairgame$? Is Sony completely done with live service games, and they'll quietly cancel this one too? Are they going to go quiet for 2 years while they rework the game entirely to something else? Or will they take their chances with Jade's initial vision of the game?

Matthew

You ever do the old "give the young relative an unplugged controller to make them think they are playing" trick?

Jason Wojnar

It's the year 2049. You are put in charge as the creative director of the final Call of Duty game. The franchise is on its last legs and ABK wants to milk it dry to the bone. Microsoft's undercover assassins hold your family hostage and they won't let them go unless this game sells at least 20 million copies. What will you do?

HaulingGas

Fun fact about Black Ops 6 on PC Game Pass--Theres a known bug where the game can fail to remember your save file, requiring you to REINSTALL THE GAME to get it back (no progress lost). Am I crazy for thinking that this is worse than just actually losing the save file entirely? Aliso shoutout to the Mannequin Director for "best moment of the year". Between that and a certain needle drop on that same mission, black ops 6 genuinely deserves Top 20 contention just off of the campaign alone.

micspam

Gday cohorts. I’m assuming from the topic list you didn’t get a code for dragon age. What’s the deal with EA’s dodgy review approach? Have you seen that reviewers who had criticism from the preview weren’t given codes? I’ve never seen such a divide in reviewers loving and hating a game. What’s going on?

Callan Rowe

Hello cohorses, do you expect video games to populate the English language with proverbs and idioms overtime ? For example "That guys is greener than link" or "My cat is jumpier than a mushroomed mario". Do you have any smart examples, you bunch of idioms ? Kisses, Felix.

Felix davin

Hello crew! Sarah in the pod and a new Sonic game released. The people need to know, is Sarah endorsing this Sonic game? Would it make it into anyone's two 10s list? How much Ben hates it compared to BG3 as a reference?

LlorchDurden

Boo MinnMax crew! (Like a scary boo, not like boo you suck) Picture a spooky stairway. Does it go down, or up? What if I had said stairwell, would you have pictured something different? How about staircase?

Leo’s Immersion

Scary, Sexy, or Funny Halloween costumes?

D M

He also appears in Shadow the Hedgehog and is mentioned in 5 other sonic games. He probably uses the philosophy quote "a fox knows many things, but a hedgehog knows one big thing" . He would likely also try to overturn the Georgia statewide Hedgehog ban (or enforce the ban nationwide if he turns evil).

D M

Can you name a game that everyone on the show's panel today has beaten? And can you name a game that everyone on the show's panel has never played?

Bob Buel

Hello MinnMax Crew! In honor of Halloween, what was your first gaming scare? For me, I’ll never forget that classic slow zombie head turn in the original Resident Evil. It terrified me as a 9-year-old, but would go on to spark my love for the series.

Stephen Sosa

I'm making my first trip to the home of MinnMax for a Vikings game this weekend and getting ready for my plane ride got me thinking: What're you more inclined or excited to do on a flight? Comfy game with some podcast/music or diving into a game you've been waiting to start? Is it flight length dependent? Can't wait to hear your routines and thanks for all the content. 💜

John Lee

Hey Crew, In-game journals and audio logs have become ubiquitous over the years, especially in open world games. I truly believe most of these are created as labour of love from the writers and designers fleshing out their worlds, but 99% of the time I cannot be bothered to read or listen to them. However, I think that would be a great loss to game immersion and world-building if they were to suddenly vanish. What's a mechanic or design feature that you never engage with but would nonetheless be sad to see go the way of the dinosaur?

Matthew Roy

My question is about "goosebump moments." To me, one of the best small pleasures is the feeling of frisson from listening to a song for the first time and getting goosebumps from an amazing riff or pleasing chord progression. I find it happens less in games, but I want to know about any of the cohorts' memorable "goosebump moments" in gaming. It doesn't have to be music related- maybe solving a really satisfying puzzle or a particularly great vista after a long climb that produced a similar effect.

Julie B.

Great point! I remember when I became aware of MMO games early on, and hearing about how they were games that didn’t “end” made me realize I should stay away. They sounded fun and intriguing, but, for me, way to easy to sink endless hours into.

Travis in Fargo

Minn to the M to the A to the X! From the time I was 5 until about the time I was 25, I thought that in Super Mario 64 Mario said “Hot Pickles!” right before you enter a stage. Even after knowing what he really says, it’s forever “hot pickles” in my mind. Is there any video game dialogue from your past that turned out not to be what you thought it was?

Ben with one N

In Sonic Adventure 2, the President of the United States is a character in the game. What do you think some of the president's policies would be in Sonic's universe?

Michael Berry

What do you think of True Colors? It was my first Life Is Strange game and my son & I both loved it

Is Ben a most or least flattering compairson?

Dusty Beaman

I refused Runescape back in the day because I knew better. Still have never touched it

Dusty Beaman

Probably not

Dusty Beaman

I'll check it out with ya if ya need boss

Good day, CLCs. Sony paid almost 4 billion dolars to acquire Bungie a couple of years ago now, and most insiders believe it'll be very difficult for Playstation to recoup most of that investment. My question is, can Sony find value in integrating the talent that remains at Bungie, or would they be smarter to continue to invest in Bungie's next projects like Marathon and possible Destiny follow ups?

Mars Barrow

Hey Maxers, What’s your take on the review roundups for Dragon Age the Veilguard? Has anyone played it yet? Many reviewers are extremely down on it but IGN gave it a 9. Plus,😉😉, they also did those lengthy previews for them. I love the DA IP and just hope it’s close to DA: I.

Howdy MinnMax, What do you think Masahiro Sakurai is working on? Cheers! -Stevo

Hello crew! I was eagerly awaiting Stellar Blade until its release due to its inspiration of Nier, but in the end, I found the story a little disappointing. I left that game behind me, but the soundtrack came out on Spotify not too long ago. My partner & I gave it a listen, & we could not stop listening the whole week. That experience changed my perception on the game, made me think more fondly on my play through, & made me want to play it again. My question is have you ever had your mind changed on a game from outside actually replaying it from experiencing it another way or seeing it from a different perspective?

Frankie Roughknight

Have you ever struggled with addiction? Not necessarily drugs/alcohol but any negative pattern you could not shake off? How did you get out of it?

Gooseberry

Happy 5 years MinnMax! Also, why does Jacob Geller look so much like the dude on the cover of the 2018 game Call of Cthulhu? Does he moonlight as a game cover art model?

Keaton

Hi! Remember those pre-internet playground rumors that we used to tell each other about games, like how to get Mew in Pokemon Red? Got any nice memories of those?

Vilas

Letting someone win in a game, is it good or bad? When you do it, do you try to hide it? When caught do you deny it? My wife saw my purposefully running zig-zag as to lose in the Mario Party Yoshi “buddy minigame”. But I think she was happy to have won regardless.

Supergeon

Hello Minmax, if your significant other got turned into an animal by a witch, but you got to pick which animal, what would you choose?

Jared Piers

As a kid I spent a lot of time dreaming up cool games I wanted to play. Did any of y'all do the same when you were younger? Also, were any of your ideas eventually brought to life by the industry?

Chan Gray

Hello, My name is Travis. Travis from Fargo is ruining my life! Every darn video game podcast I listen to, his name pops up and I think they're talking to me, Travis. But I'm not from Fargo. I'm from Lino Lakes, Minnesota. It would take 4 hours to drive to Fargo. So my question, do I drive to Fargo, find Travis from Fargo, and we Highlander this shit? Thanks, Manick_T (Travis from Not Fargo)

Travis Manick

Hello! Loving the team's work this month. The playdate visit, Playdate podcast, Portland meetup, Kelsey setting up her booth, and Recent Bonus Pods have been phenomenal. It can get overwhelming, and yet I dare not look away. I assume all of y'all have a healthy video game collections (physical or digital). What else does this week's cohort collect? 4K Blu-rays anyone?

Gera

What's something you did as a kid that your parents don't know about?

Dunder

Since the conversation around Double Exposure took such a drastic turn after the last three episodes came out, it made me wonder: what do you think is the fastest you've gone from loving to hating a game or vice versa?

SuperCerberus

Playing metaphor really makes me think about persona 6 and what I wish they would change. Personally Metaphor has really illuminated that the persona system is too cumbersome and complex to enjoy. Do the metaphor enjoyed agree/have different thoughts about personas future?

Qax

Do you want the metaphor team to make a sequel to the game or something else entirely?

Crazydude

What's the highest number of games you've finished in one sitting? I don't mean full completion, but have just played through and finished the main story/seen credits. My record is 3, playing through Sayonara Wild Hearts, What Remains of Edith Finch and Gone Home back-to-back-to-back.

Daniel Dwiggins

Who in This Crew has the best taste in video games?

BEEFCAKE

Listening to last week's episode got me thinking a lot about how your guys' interpersonal relationships contribute so much to the vibes of the show, and about the challenges that come with needing to also maintain professionalism alongside those close emotional ties. My question: Other than Jeffum, who is the easiest person to tease or make fun of on MinnMax?

Walter Hare

Wasssssahhhpp!? Just wanted to mention this inflatable boxing idea has to be reexamined. For my buddy Adam’s 30th bday we rented a large bouncy house and bought some inflatable gloves (Sockem Boppers). It was a blast! Getting punched in the face mid jump sends you flying. It was hilarious and nothing hurt. It really made us all feel like little kids again. I say damn the voting and just do it anyway. The bouncy house is a must addition though, they are amazing and surprisingly affordable for a party. When’s the last time you bounced in a bouncy house?

Ryan Mcginnis

What’s the best DLC/Expansion of the past 5 years? Is it the Alan Wake 2 DLC? Most “best DLC” lists are games from 10-15 years ago (Minerva’s Den, Red Dead Undead Nightmare, Blood and Wine) but there’s been some fantastic DLC in the recent years. Personally, it’s Outer Wilds Echoes of the Eye and God of War Ragnarok Valahalla. Both have different approaches: one is creating a whole new place to explore from the main game the other is reworking existing systems and gameplay to create a new type of experience. Some other big ones: Erdtree, Phantom Liberty, Burning Shores, Hitman Freelancer and RE4 Seperate Ways.

DougieHockey

Hello all, When you have a big decision to make what are your strategies to make a decision? For me I've found if I flip a coin and have a decision made for me it let's me know how I really feel about that decision based on the outcome. Thanks!

Kevin Kuper

Assuming the best games are 'the right length', if you had to choose, would you prefer a good game that goes on for a little too long or one that feels a little too short?

Chris Husin

If someone shook hands with you, what Archetype would you give them?

Tess

Pertaining to conversation about Double Exposure, I felt the.... marketing maneuver of releasing 2 episodes early for high cost pre-orders was a solid move since the end of episode 2 was an exceptional cliffhanger to build excitement. Also I was able to start 2 playthroughs and can decide which one I want to play all the way through first, whereas if it had all come out at once, I probably would have just played all the way through and put a second playthrough on the back burner due to all the other games coming out. So I'm net positive on the move, but I'm interested in the cohort opinion. Also, I mean, Chocobo and Cactuar shirts? Yes please!

Vilis

How would you describe the feeling of being in love?

Adam Wagner

If you could be invisible for just 10 minutes, what would you do with that time?

Dunder

Good morrow fellow gamers. What was the first game you pulled an all-night-er with? Mine was the Over the Hedge movie video game on the Playstation 2. My buddy and I drank a monster energy drink for the first time before our sleep over, and we weren't allowed to have energy drinks. I have a vivid memory of realizing I wouldn't have enough energy to have faked sleeping the night before and came up with the excuse that I drank a powerade and it kept me up all night. Decent movie game as well.

Some fine day descends into chaos: everyone on Earth is blindsided by the spontaneous breaking of both their legs. Does society ever recover, or is this truly the apocalypse? Is this event reported on the news, or does everyone on staff just tap out? Does the news need to report on such a ubiquitous situation? What is your personal game plan if/when this happens?

Jake Eckert

HI. JUST ONE QUESTION: HOW REALISTIC WOULD IT BE TO HAVE EVERYONE, IN-PERSON FOR A TWO 10'S FRIENDLY DISCUSSION? THANK YOU.

Francis Mogote

By all accounts Concord was a failure, but it seems like a majority of people believe that much of the blame falls on Sony and not the devs (Firewalk Studios). At the end of the day this is embarrassing for Sony, but the only people without jobs now are Firewalk employees. Is the industry doomed to just continue this cycle of acquisition, unrealistic expectations, and then studio closures after those expectations aren't met? Is that just the hopeless state of the industry now and a baked in risk that devs have to factor in? Can we as gamers do anything?

Alex Hanavan

Janet once described Ben as a "jolly" man, which stuck with me as I have never heard this term applied to anyone besides Santa himself. Would you agree with this characterization? What does it take for someone's demeanor to be comparable to that of St. Nick?

ChubbyAcorn

Hey MinnMax crew, what is the most heroic thing you've done? When I was a kid, I saved a toddler from drowning at the public pool.

Jeorin

When I edit pictures or splice things together, I do it in my Notes app and screen-shot it. Because I can't afford/don't know how to use Adobe.

Mike Lynch

Nice, I love it! Just please don’t abuse your power :)

Travis in Fargo

As the end of the year draws closer, I'm finding myself trying to cram games into my schedule in prep for GOTY talks. Between Switch, PS5, and PC I'm playing about 6 games simultaneously as vibes see fit and it's getting overwhelming. How many games at once can yall handle before it gets to be too many? Do you balance genres to compensate for different types of sessions (podcast games, cinematic story games, think-y games)? Any advice?

Reid Harry

Is it really hard to mess up a burger? What foods are really hard to mess up?

Poofydoo

Not so much a question, but my goal for the past 2 years was to run a marathon (I started following MinnMax this year, so I didn't put the BetterQuest label on this until recently, still counts though lol) and last week I did it! I killed time on my long runs by catching up on all previous MinnMax game of the year content (which was AMAZING) - nothing like dying at mile 19 of a run while hearing Leo wax poetically about Hitman 3. Thank you all for the entertainment, and for anybody out there still working on your goals - don't give up, you got this! Cheers to you all.

Nick deVries

I typed in www.google.com to search for something on google until about 2015

Jason Wojnar

Have you done anything this year that a 14 year old version of you would say is cool? I got an electric skateboard (onewheel) and was riding on some mountain trails in Colorado and the moment crystallized for me, at 14 riding a board like this in the mountains no one could be cooler.

Ryan Jones

I’ve been playing the game Lunacid recently, which is an indie take on King’s Field/early Fromsoft games. I’m enjoying exploring its spooky retro world a ton. However there are just so many secrets! I know I’m not tenacious enough to find them all, so I might have to put up with a default ending. Does this ever happen to you and if so, how do you accept it?

Joey Smith

Hey MinnMaxxers, I'm glad Janet, Sarah, and Haley are on the pod together, this one is mainly for y'all: Which games have the best or unexpectedly deep fashion gameplay, and which features are important for a good implementation? Lots of item slots (hands, torso, outerwear, etc)? Saving multiple custom outfits? Outlandish styles? Set bonuses? Transmogrifying stats? Multiple colour variations? A shirt tuck toggle / jacket open toggle? Stragely, I think I had the most fun with Sunset Overdrive's fashion. It had a great mix of very contrasting styles to mix and match but still fit with the goofy punk aesthetic. PS: I hope we all agree that locking fashion gameplay behind new game plus is a crime (I'm looking at you, HiFi Rush...). Cheers, Tom

Tom

Since this episode comes out publicly on Halloween, I thought I'd ask: have you ever played been so spooked by a piece of media that you've dropped it forever or came back to it years later?

mikewearsprada

After playing The Lake House and Dead Space, is there anything more terrifying in horror games than unkillable enemies like The Painted? Is that good game design or bad?

OhMyBlob

Missed joke opportunity! When answering the entrainment revelations question, Leo opened with “I had an awakening” to which someone should’ve responded “you saw Catwomen too?” 5 years down the gutter (jk love you guys, to 5 more!!!!)

Joe

Thanks to the Infinity Nikki New Show Plus I now know the 5 clothing stats are: Elegant, Fresh, Sweet, Sexy, and Cool. Which stat would you max in your personal wardrobe, and which is a trash stat? Is Sarah happy with her Ben build or would she re-spec after playing some Infinity Nikki?

Nate Voris

I've been doing a sci-fi horror marathon of movies and games in october, ending with Dead Space remake. This game is amazing but also incredibly miserable. What are the top 5 miserable games?

RickyWinterborn

Hey folks! After I completed Silent Hill 2 this weekend and with the Echoes of Wisdom Deepest Dive ending recently, it got me thinking of the critical reception behind these games. I loved Echoes of Wisdom (more than Tears of the Kingdom tbh) but I feel like outlets have already forgotten about it. Meanwhile it seems like reception is still red hot on Silent Hill 2 and more discussion around it. Do you think going into the Two Tens, Silent Hill 2 will best a Zelda? Thanks for everything you all do!

Tom Rickard

Hey MinnMax, In the days of physical gaming magazines, which columns did you flip to first? I loved letters to the editor and envelope art, then tricks/tips/codes, and then I’d go for the reviews. Recently, I’d hit the reviews first before diving into the rest of the issue. Thanks for all you’ve done - five years strong!

Don Walton Jr

If you had to freeze your face into one expression for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Derek

If you were to get a pressed vinyl dedicated to your life, what 7 songs would be recorded on it and what color/design would you want it to be! I won’t list my songs but a color squish similar to the ff10 cover art (blue yellow red etc) would be soooo cool.

Chris Tesiny

Hey minnmax! Have any of you played that web fishing game? I know it's a real small game, but there's something about it that really makes me happy. I feel like gaming as a medium has fully hit maturity now that we have small games filling in every niche like this.

Chandler

What’s a game that you played and mastered (either playing a ton or achieving something very impressive) that did not have achievements when you played that you wish did ? Mine would be doing literally everything in 1.0 Dead Cells on switch

Dan from Canada

What’s a candy that gets more hate than it deserves? I love banana Laffy Taffy and I don’t care who knows it.

Hello MinnMaxers! Just wanted to share something I'm proud of in a #betterquest-ish way. Almost half my lifetime ago I tried Amnesia: The Dark Descent and it scared me so much that I deinstalled after an hour and never looked back, nor to that type of survival horror game, where you are barely able to fight back against the enemy. Loved the atmosphere, but it was just too tense for me. Last week, in an attempt to try things outside of my comfort zone, I played Amnesia: The Bunker. Ever since its announcement I've felt intrigued by the concept, but thought it would be just like The Dark Descent: too tense. But somehow I finally got the guts to try it. The push and pull I felt while playing was both mentally challenging *and* refreshing, because I was constantly questioning if I should take a break or quit altogether, yet managed to push on anyway. The release I felt when I would complete even the smallest of objectives felt so immensely good, something game genres I'm more familiar with have not given me in a long time. It feels like I'm now ready to try more of this type of genre, maybe I will tackle The Dark Descent after all! All the best and congrats on the five years, let's make it 55 more!

Krauser_05

With the recent Zelda game bringing a secondary character to the forefront, what other game do you think has a secondary character deserving of the spotlight?

Luke Seeley

Hey there! Is Jacob Mario? Does that make Ben Wario?

Seabass

Hey, MinnMax! If you could pick your own theme music (from a video game) that would play every time you enter a room, what song would it be?

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey all! New patron here, first time question asker. How do you manage your backlog? I find mine constantly out of control.

andyman5022

Howdy y’all! This question is coming at you all the way from Texas. Do y’all know if your parents were going to name y’all something else besides the names you have now? My father almost named me Elvis Kalel Guerra but my mother decided against it and I got stuck with a boring name. I would’ve at least liked Kalel as a middle name. Anyway, thank you for all the countless hours of entertainment y’all provide. I look forward to it every week!

Albert Guerra

Hey y’all! My wife and I are sooo hyped for Infinity Nikki! What are your favorite games where outfits are a major part of the game? I never finished Final Fantasy X-2, but little kid me was floored by the cool outfit changes. And, let’s be honest, every Monster Hunter is just a game where you get cool clothes and make sick outfits right?

CaffeineDad

Hey Minn Maxers, question for the bed gamers. How are you positioned? I tried gaming with a steam deck while laying down and could not get comfortable. Happy Halloween Eve!

CANAS1AN

A power glove would be either give me Thanos-like control over time and space with the swipe of a hand 20% of the time

What's something you've played that made you wish you were playing something else? I like the Rhythm Kitchen mode in Super Mario Party Jamboree, but it's just Rhythm Heaven! Give me a new Rhythm Heaven game, Nintendo!!

Kelsey Sims

Here’s a game: let’s play “Percent Chance”. I’ll say something videogame-related that may happen in the future, and each cohort says the percent chance that it comes true. Biggest outlier has to defend their reasoning. Here goes: 1 - GTA 6 is the Game Awards GOTY the year it releases. 2 - Elden Ring 2 comes out before Dark Souls 4 or Bloodborne 2 3 - The next 3D Zelda game features either a playable Link or a playable Zelda with the ability to summon defeated foes, like in Echoes of Wisdom 4 - Starting with the year 2026 (or earlier), there will be zero Xbox-exclusives 5 - At least once this decade, an indie game wins GOTY at the Game Awards.

My mom sends me the occasional warning, that she doesn’t know how to use her email, by emailing me about it. Bless her.

AnAttackCorgi

JACOB! Have you played Mouthwashing? It's the latest game from Wrong Organ, the creators of How Fish is Made. It's a deeply horrifying and beautifully made experience. There's one particular sequence at the end that will stick with me for a long time, like a tick on my brain. Please, all you Maxers, play Mouthwashing!

Ian Miller

Hello, have yall ever dealt with Imposter Syndrome at a new job? If so, how did you deal with it? Currently 3 months into a new job and the feeling of not being good enough for my job is draining.

Mabroon

Hey MinnMax, happy Hallows eve! Do any of you journal? Do you write about your day-to-day, work stuff, the games you're playing, or just the thoughts you have that you don't want to forget? All of the above? I'm trying to push myself to start writing things down, so hey, BetterQuest goal! I know journaling can be whatever you want it to be, so I don't want to set rules on it but I was curious how you all look at it. Thanks!

Hiya cohorts! Recently, I bought the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and played Castlevania 1 for the very first time. And surprise, surprise… it’s great! I always get a little bit nervous playing NES games because of their “old-school” game design and their reputation for difficulty, but almost always I find they nail simply being fun to play. So, my question! If you were to recommend an NES game to somebody who has never played one before (and this person can be any age), which would you recommend based on “fun factor” for a modern day gamer? So in short, which NES game has aged the best and is the most fun? You can have multiple answers but I want no overlapping answers please! And if you want, you can also discuss which NES game you find the least fun. Hope you can get something out of this question. Cheers, and happy Halloween!

Last year 2 kids took all of the Halloween candy I left out before any other trick-or-treaters arrived. Should I still put out candy this year or say get off my lawn? p.s. Why is Halloween candy so darn expensive?

Hey Benny and Jorts! I’ve been dialed into the games podcasting scene for years and seeing MinnMax grow and create such as awesome community is a huge reason why y’all are my favorite gaming podcast out there! I’m so thankful for your different tiers to let people support indie games media at the level that fits for them. (Insert Ben saying he swears this isn’t his alt account) What is the first memory you have of thinking “now this is gaming!!” For me I remember finding a copy of Mass Effect at a liquidation sale, taking home and realizing this was everything I wanted gaming to be. Y’all are the best, Andy

Happy belated 5th anniversary! I just finished reading/listening to "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" for the 2nd time. I think it's one of the best novels I have ever read! Is there anything (movies, books, documentaries, etc.) that captures the beauty and complexity of gaming like this book does? I am desperate for a recommendation!! Help me MinnMax, you are my only hope!

Hi everyone! This being Veilguard release week, I've been thinking a lot on how Dragon Age adjusts identity every entry, especially and primarily on the gameplay front, and yet I've loved every single one. What franchises or media collections land the same way for the cohorts? Ever-changing, always reinventing itself, but the sheer spirit of the thing always brings you back?

What do ghosts do when no one is around? Do they have entertainment? Just hang out until a haunting opportunity presents itself? Go sightseeing?

Has a fictional character ever motivated you to pick up a hobby? If so, who? For years in my 30s I wanted to learn to play guitar. I didn't know anything about music, and even less about playing an instrument. I told myself I was too old and had no knowledge base. In the last episode of "The Good Place," Michael (played by Ted Danson) takes a guitar lesson. For whatever reason that motivated me to find a teacher and learn guitar myself. Been playing about 2.5 years and absolutely love it.

With Metaphor ReFantazio being a possible GOTY contender, is it safe to say RPGs are the IT genre at the moment? (could argue Elden Ring [2022 GOTY] is an action RPG but who am I to define genres?)

Jonas Schlotterbeck

Hello all, I have a simple question today. What is your favorite animal sound? Song birds? Wolf howl? Cat purr? Horse neigh? Maybe a screaming sheep?

SlyCut

When a story ends, do you prefer that the group of characters all go their separate ways or do you prefer the group stays together? I get the sense of finality to the story that a group parting ways brings but, personally, I really like when they all stay together and I get to imagine that they're still having small adventures together. Also, Super Mario Party Jamboree does let you choose your minigames even outside of the Pro rules. Random vs. Choose is one of the settings you can toggle before beginning the party.

Okay friends, we've all had it happen to us before and it's nothing to feel embarrassed about, but we need to have an open discussion about it - have you ever taken a bite of pizza and had all of the cheese come off at once? You know you've been here, and you know what it's like. My question to you is, is this a net positive, negative, or neutral experience? You may now have a nice honkin' piece of cheese to devour, but you also have a sad cheeseless pizza. Discuss.

Not too get too political, but I recall hearing a discussion on the podcast where you doubted the reports that Tim Walz had actually played Crazy Taxi. Now that Walz has proven his Crazy Taxi cred on an official campaign Twitch stream, will you apologize to your current Governor?

Hey all! What blew your mind in a game when you were a kid? Mine was the 1991 NES game Robin Hood where different sections of gameplay included: top down strategy and action, side-scrolling horse sections, and a final duel where you could jump on the table!

KickinIt

How long does a multiplayer game have to remain live in order to be "worth it"? We complain about publishers chasing the dream of never-ending live service games; but what should they be aiming for instead? Is it okay for a game to be fun for three or four years and then disappear? What's the cutoff point?

JTDenton

How do you deal with a series you love getting worse? For example, I loved the first life is strange, but subsequent entries have left me with some very… mixed opinions. That being said I’m still holding out hope for double exposure. Keep up the good work y’all!

Hello everyone! Question for Sarah: with the announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles X finally coming to Switch, is there something you would like to see adressed in the Definitive Edition, be it gameplay or writing-wise? Feel free to share stories from back then!

Luca Alberti

If the there was new position in the United States Cabinet called the Secretary of Video Games who, from the games industry would you most like to see appointed? And what, if any, policies would you like to see implemented, both silly or serious?

Phillip Pena

Happy Halloween, MinnMax! How long till Capcom announces a MegaMan Legends Legacy Collection? Past legacy collections debuted in 2015, 2017, 2018 (X), 2020 (Zero/ZX) and 2023 (Battle Network). Could it happen next year or am I dreaming?

Tyler Sticka

My girlfriend sees a lot of MinnMax content that I'm watching around the house, and recently said that Ben sometimes reminds her of me. What are the most and least flattering celebrity comparisons you've ever gotten?

John Scovic

What Mario Party game would be the most fun IRL party game?

Hey y'all! I've been playing Armored Core 6 again recently and really paying attention to the sounds. The little beeps and boops (used as dodge cues or cooldown timers) or the crumpling sound of car-sized bullets pulverizing enemy mechs make my brain feel gooooood. It's almost like I could play the game with my eyes closed. What games do you feel have the best diegetic (i.e. non-soundtrack) noises? Most immersive, most recognizable, most likely to make you respond, whatever criteria you want to judge by.

BetterQuest update. I've made it roughly six months without drinking/sober! Super easier. Barely think about it. Have weird dreams I drink and try to explain it away. Anyway. I have a question for all you smart people as well. I've been enjoying Metaphor a lot and it has me thinking. Quiet Ben this is a question for Jacob and Sarah! Whats the "SoulsBorne" of turn based games? Is it Darkest Dungeon? Is it this Shin Megami Tensi game I've heard about? Thoughts?

Sincerly, Eric

What’s a bad video game with potential that would benefit from a remaster treatment?

Ecto Coolest

I refuse to play Balatro! It sounds amazing, but I understand my own addictive tendencies. I had to delete Vampire Survivors after one day because I couldn’t peel myself away from it. Are there any games you don’t let yourself play because of addictive tendencies or similar personal reasons?

Will people ever abandon Twitter completely?

Question for Ben: what 'piece of content' are you most jealous of that any of the 'cohorts' have done outside of MinnMax? So good that you wish that it was done under the MinnMax banner. For the rest of the crew: favorite thing any of the others have done outside of MinnMax?

T-Havok

Hello everybody, I have been on a reading kick lately and wanted to read a Stephen King book but the amount of books that he has makes it a little intimidating to know where to start. My question is what is a media franchise or hobby you have wanted to get into but haven’t yet because it seems to intimidating? Thank you for the podcast.

Adam Castellanos

Hello MinnMax, can you all briefly talk about the crazy production of Sakurai’s YouTube channel. Concepting, writing, and recording 256 videos before anything was ever released is bonkers!

Owen S

Choose one: the NES games available through NSO or UFO 50. However, whichever you choose erases those other games from existence. Which one do you go with?

Graham Gilmore

Grocery lists. Y’all using em? We’ve had some mix ups at our place recently, wrong strength tooth brushes being purchased, sugar free coffee creamer instead of the fully sugared stuff. Is there somebody in charge of shopping and the list in your household? Is the list handwritten or digital? What’s made life a little more peaceful and organized when it comes to groceries?

Daniel Doran

If you could choose a funny video game/movie/comic/etc themed tattoo for another cohort to get what would it be?

Hey CLCs, What's your bedtime routine? And what's one thing you want to improve about it?

bizkiut (Nick S.)

If you turned on the news and saw footage of a MinnMax cohort member being led out of their house in handcuffs, knowing them, what would you assume to be the most likely explanation?

Quillgrim

Do you think you’ve ever met a future presidential candidate? (Leo for Me-o has a nice ring to it…)

Sarah, since you worked on Xenoblade Chronicles X’s localization team, can you force the others to play it now that it has a remaster coming to Switch?

Tommy Ostrenga

What’s up my favourite Pipo!? If you had a parrot, what phrases and mannerisms would it pick up by being around you? Bonus points for what you’d name your parrot and the kind you’d get.

What video game controller or peripheral would you most like permanently fused to your body? In this scenario, it does serve some function related to its original purpose.

Hi MinnMax! Do you have any break up stories that involve video games? I just broke up with a person with whom I planned to check out the new Dragon Age game which comes out in 2 days

What makes a good video game Halloween costume good?

What's your favorite way a family member uses modern technology they obviously don't understand? (In my father's Facebook profile, you can see that he's holding the picture he liked of himself up to the camera)
