MinnMax's Big Asheville Meetup Is Canceled, BUT We're Raising Money To Help The Community

MinnMax's "Big Community Meetup" in Asheville, North Carolina was scheduled for this Saturday, October 5th, but nature had other plans. Due to the devasting impact of Hurricane Helene on the area, we're forced to cancel the meetup. Please contact your airline/housing to get a refund and help spread the word to any friends who were going to attend. We're using this unfortunate situation as an opportunity to raise money for the community, which is struggling to get fresh water and electricity at the moment and will be struggling to rebuild for quite some time.

We're launching a campaign to raise money for Americares and specifically their efforts in North Carolina, all donations go directly to the certified nonprofit. Here's a description from them: "Americares is responding to Hurricane Helene to get critical aid to those most impacted. Your tax-deductible gift to the U.S. Disaster Relief Fund will help ensure Americares has the resources required to respond effectively and quickly to natural disasters and extreme weather events with medicines, medical supplies and other humanitarian aid for people in crisis and continue to help survivors rebuild their lives."

We'll be pushing the charity drive all week and hosting a charity stream this Saturday from 7-11pm Central - the time we would have been at the community meetup. The stream will be on MinnMax's YouTube channel. We'll get together to play some games online, feel free to leave suggestions in the comments below for any online multiplayer games you want to see us play.

Assuming the town will slowly be rebuilt, the plan is we'll return to Asheville in 2025 for the "Big Community Meetup." Additionally, we'll still be hosting a marathon "Give To The Max" charity stream later this November for a nonprofit in Minneapolis. Stay tuned for more info surrounding that event.

Our hearts go out to everybody caught in the path of the storm and a huge thanks to everybody in the MinnMax community for understanding and donating to this cause. https://bit.ly/minnmaxasheville

Thanks Ben and the ‘Horts for making the best out of a truly horrible situation. Wishing nothing but quick recovery for all the families impacted by the flooding!

Very nice idea. For a suggestion, as we are getting into spooky season maybe some of the team goofy spooky extraction games like Lethal Company, PILGRIM, Phasmophobia, Content Warning (could pretend you are filming a travelog)

Hope you guys can make it next year! Sitting out in front of my local Best Buy here in Waynesville, NC to check in on this event. It was bad, and recovery is going very slowly. Never thought it would be like this, don’t think many here were prepared for how bad it could be

Thank you for fundraising! A friend of mine from Asheville managed to get to her mum's in Georgia but her partner has to shelter in place as he got cut off by flooding before the area could be evacuated.

I re-subscribed in large part because of this. I’m in a better financial spot than I used to be, but mainly I want to support MinnMax as MinnMax is supporting Asheville. I’m a brewer in Raleigh and seeing Zillicoah get washed away has been incredibly difficult. I’m incredibly thankful that our area wasn’t affected for the most part, and want to add MinnMax support to the ways we are supporting Asheville/the brewing community there. Looking forward to 2025!

Sounds like a great plan given an unfortunate scenario. Thank you.

Just what I expect from Ben and MinnMax. 👏👏👏 Let's gather our community energy and spirit bomb Asheville with funds!

I'm ok thankfully, as are my friends and family. Most small towns in the area are near unrecognizable from what I've seen, and most of the town I currently live in still does not have power, but we're getting it back slowly.

Erik Rodriguez

How are you doing? How's the area?

Ben Hanson

Great use of the platform, thanks for doing this. I've got a lot of friends literally stranded on mountaintops around the Asheville area because of how bad the roads got hit, everything I've been seeing has been wild.

moongarbage

donezo- great idea!

tbird5000

this sucks so much for the residents and everyone there. it's a beautiful place and it must be devastating to be experiencing this right now. my heart goes out to them

Mark M

Thank you for this, I live right next to Asheville and while I'm bummed the meetup will have to wait, it obviously pales in comparison to the tremendous damage the entire area and its people have suffered.

Erik Rodriguez

This is great! Thanks yall!

Joe Williams

Thanks for putting this together. Donated now 😄

Bless y’all, I suspected you’d have something like this in the works in light of the situation
