Hey Portland! Come To MinnMax's Community Meetup On Friday, September 27th At Gigantic Brewing

Kelsey Lewin and Ben Hanson will be in Portland, Oregon at the end of September and we'd love to meet and thank some of you in person. We're on a top secret mission there for some fun content, and Kelsey will also have a booth for her Pink Gorilla game stores at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo.

If you're in the area, come out to Gigantic Brewing on Friday, September 27th at 7pm Pacific. We'll be hanging out in the outdoor area until 10pm. You're welcome to bring friends, this isn't a Patreon-exclusive meetup or anything. I believe the venue is 21+. Please keep in mind that there are multiple locations, but we'll be at the Gigantic Brewing taproom with the address listed below.

Feel free to leave a comment with suggestions on things for Kelsey and Ben to do while we're in Portland! See you out there!

I second this! I love going there.

There is a seriously dank Hawaiian food truck at this brewery. Come hungry. As for recommendations, try to use your press credentials to sneak into Panic (Playdate devs) or Nightdive in Vancouver, sneak into Dark Horse Comics and fist bump Hellboy, or bike up Mt Tabor while soaking in our elevation changes and complete lack of mosquitos. Finally, if you’re flying into PDX instead of Seattle, oh boy you won the lottery because we just finished the airport renovation and it’s seriously magical in there.

Woo! I'll be there. If you want to try board games and have good food at the same time, go to Mox Boarding House. I've taken, no joke, five different groups of friends there and it's a hit every time.

Sorry for just now circling around on this! Attractions: Portland has a beautiful Japanese garden on the west side. On a nice day you can see Mt. Hood! Everyone should go to Powell’s at least once, one of the biggest book stores in the world! You can also do a short hike in Forest Park, there are lots of accessible trails Food: Nong’s Khao Man Gai - A former food cart staple, excellent chicken and rice Hat Yai - Thai chicken / curry Eem - Asian fusion with a great cocktail menu Shalom Y’all or Blutos - Mediterranean food Pizza - We’re (controversially) rated the pizza capital of the US and there are tons of great places: Ken’s, Apizza Shoals, Lovely’s Fifty Fifty, Scottie’s, Pan Con Queso Also shout out to my favorite food cart in the city, Tokyo Sando! Coffee: Tons of great places here: Courier Coffee (they also have amazing cookies), Case Study, Heart, Never, Coava Treats: Cheese and Crack is an amazing soft serve place (ice cream with a chocolate cowboy hat!) Jinju - amazing pastries, desserts and chocolates

Welcome to Portland! If you've got the time, I feel like you'd have a good time renting a bike. There are long bike trails along the Willamette River (even a portion that takes you onto a floating trail). There are also Coraline cat statues all around the city to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the movie. Here's a map: https://www.coralinescuriouscattrail.com/map If you have less time, a great view of the city can be seen from Pittock Mansion. You'd also be neary Hoyt Arboretum if you want to see a variety of the local flora. About 20 minutes outside of town is the Ollebolle troll statue from Dutch artist Thomas Dambo. For food, a recent favorite of mine is Top Burmese Burma Joy. It's got super flavorful curries, and your food arrives in a unique way! As for Multnomah Falls, I would hold off for another time you're in the area. It's not at its peak flow right now, so it's not going to be as impressive as it is in the wet season. Also, parking can be tricky with how popular it's become.

Awwww I’ll be there one week later. Almost !!!

I'll definitely be at both! I'm going to be demoing my Playdate game at the Portland Indie Game Squad booth at PRGE on Sunday as well! Also maybe a basic rec from a fairly new Portlander, but we're all nuts for Ranch Pizza.

James Gameboy

Oh whoa, I love that. Please do say hello!

Ben Hanson

Have yourselves some beautiful Westward Single Malt whilst you're in Portland!!

Im building an arcade machine for my nephew for x-mas because of Ben awesome summer stories. I was going to the PRGE to bend ears and source parts anyway. Hope i get to take part in a toast to Ben, Kelsey and MinnMax.

DamTheKid

Will be there!

I play bar trivia at this location pretty frequently! Will definitely have to update with food / attraction recommendations, but also agree popping out to something like Multnomah Falls is well worth the trip! You can also hit Sugarpine Drive In on your way out or back!

Rob Alvey

It's great to see the PDX trip is confirmed! I'm not sure how far outside of the city you're able to go, but consider some outdoor activities (e.g., Multnomah Falls) for the travelogue - assuming there is one.

RootFunction

This is amazing, and Gigantic brewing happens to be very close to my house! Can't wait!!

umryan

If only I still lived in that area. C'est la vie.

Maxine L

I'll be at PRGE! I'm bringing my 7-year-old so it sounds like we can't attend the meetup, but hoping to meet MinnMaxers at the con. We play StreetPass at cons so please bring your 3DSes!
