Submit Your Thoughts On Pokémon Legends: Arceus For The Deepest Dive

It's time to submit your comment on the opening hours of Pokémon Legends: Arceus! For the first discussion, we're covering everything in the game up through the first big boss fight for the first area... the one they call a "Lord". Please don't spoil anything after that boss fight.

Submit a comment below and please get specific. Don't write a long review, please keep your one comment to around the length of a tweet. We want to get to as many comments as possible. Let's get specific, submit a comment about your favorite personal moment, new system, Pokémon in your team, piece of dialogue, bit of UI, anything specific. The more specific you are, the higher the odds of us reading your comment during the discussion. We'll finish collecting comments on Tuesday morning.

We're recording The Deepest Dive on Pokémon Legends: Arceus on Tuesday night at 7pm Central, and this time we're actually going to try recording it live on MinnMax's Twitch channel.

You can unlock the podcast version of the discussion by supporting MinnMax at the $5 tier.

We're collecting your comments on everything else in the game on Sunday, February 13th. So you'll have plenty of time to submit something good.

As someone who is a sucker for Pokemon Lore, I have to say I really dig how the clans are set up in reference to the 'meta' lore of Gen 4. The two clan leader names are references to Adamant Orb/Lustrious Orb which are held by Dialga/Palkia to boost their power in the other games. And then in direct refence to the fact that there are split games in the same generation, each of them belive there is only one god, represented by their respective Box Legendary (Diamond clan worships Dialga/Pearl clan worships Palkia.

Ok hear me out, The story sucks so far (too much exposition) The game looks like a 3ds dev build BUT, the bar has been set so low over the years that just being able to catch a Pokemon while simultaneousy starting a battle with another wild Pokemon was enough for me to love it so far! -Ramentaco

This is my first Pokemon game since Leaf Green for the GameBoy Advance and I'm enjoying it so far! It's exciting to not know which Pokemon I will encounter. I appreciate much of the new features, such as choosing when to evolve Pokemon and being able to switch Pokemon or throw Poke Balls without going into the menu. Conversely, things like the way you expand your inventory and having to re-flag missions whenever you progress is annoying. What game mechanics have you appreciated so far? What has been a miss?

You can throw one of your pokemon out on the ground and then throw another of your pokemon at that pokemon and they'll "talk" to each other. 10 out of 10 game of the year. Also the music is absolutely incredible. Especially the boss fight music.

Anyone else worry about how grindy the game is going to be when you get your first look at the Pokedex? Catch 25 Bidoof? Catch 7 heavy Bidoof? Defeat 15? And all this for a single 'Mon.

I just want to point out that you can toss out all 6 of your Pokémon when you’re not in battle and you can just kinda hang out with them. They only interact a little bit but it’s things like this that just keep surprising me about this game. I really hope this line of games continues. I would love a game like this in ancient Johto

Reaching rank 10 puts shiny odds close to 2000, and perfecting the page puts it close to 1000. It's not communicated in game, but there is a reason to do the extra work.

I really like the way they did evolution, don't have to actively cancel, just let's you know when they are ready. Good for eevees, making sure you get the evolution you want. Also the animation is pretty sweet.

Sorry for the second comment but one more lil one - after several hours of just walking around (plus I didn’t know there was a run button, but that was on me) getting Wyrdeer as a mount felt like hopping in a Ferrari and putting the pedal to the floor. So satisfying

Looooving this game and it’s focus on exploration. My favorite small detail is the Celestial Flute’s tune which, as a throwback to the Diamond and Pearl games, plays the sound effect when you press start on the title screen on those old DS games. So cool.

There was a great line from your rival character when you go to battle their Pikachu that I think really captures how weird and scary Pokemon are to the people in this time. "When it comes down to it Pokemon are terrifying, right? Why should this thing be able to fire electricity?"

Allan Liebold

Pokemon Ranch was such a weird but neat title. I remember working very hard to earn the mew from it. Sadly I think Ranch has been lost to time now. But it's cool to think of it living on in some form in Legends of Arceus.

Glad to join you on a Deepest Dive journey, Ben. 1. It’s refreshing to see a world where everyone rightfully recognizes that Pokémon are terrifying, considering they attack people just walking around. Would the panel agree? 2. It seems strange that the Pokédex gives you so many tasks to level up each entry, but then makes it so easy to get to level 10 (and then there’s nothing beyond that). Why not give more tidbits of info as you continue ranking up each entry?

This game feels a lot like what I dreamt Pokemon would be on the N64 back in the Red/Blue era. There's even weird fog and draw distance issues! Snark aside, I am really enjoying it.

A deep cut for the Deepest Dive: The fact that Pokémon are stored not in a PC but in a pasture is delightful. I can’t say my character walking around with a phone makes not having PCs consistent, but it DID remind me of the absurd and wonderful “My Pokémon Ranch” WiiWare title, where Pokémon from Diamond and Pearl could be stored a la Pokémon Box or Pokémon Home, but farm style. Apparently Sinnoh/Hisui has deep agrarian roots! Did any of the Deepest Dive hosts ever use My Pokémon Ranch? PS - it’s “x-chin” like “x-mas”
