Dr. Who 11x5 The Tsungara Condrum

Again guys, sorry for the late upload

Dr. Who 11x5 The Tsungara Condrum

Comments

Haha yeah the Pting is supercute. So cute, he´ll stay on my Thumbnails this Series :D Oh yes, 42....That´s so true, now that you said it. It really felt very similar. Astos should have lived to the end. They should have killed of any other character but him. That was a very unfortunate decision by the people in charge. Awww it would have been so cute to see a picture of the Pting in the ratings, but I understand that it wasn´t possible. So nice of you to think of that in the first place. Thank you so much :)

"You have to use your imagination. Imagine the solution and work to make it a reality. Whole worlds pivot on acts of imagination.", The Doctor, "The Tsuranga Conundrum" I'm not sure how to feel about this story - there are some nice bits and some bits that I'm not so engaged with. "It just sort of ignored you there, Doc.", Graham talking about the Pting, "The Tsuranga Conundrum" Let me just start by saying that the Pting is very cute. I was concerned going in, that you would find the alien too silly (perhaps a bit of the Slitheen-level silliness) but you found it cute as well. And I really like the idea of a tiny cute alien causing so much trauma - and causing so much trauma innocently because it's just hungry for energy. "It just ate my sonic!", The Doctor, "The Tsuranga Conundrum" Funny that it just bites the sonic out of the Doctor's hand - and then spits it out. I appreciate the confined base-under-siege-style of story setup - I always like this story form. "Oh, I really need to spend more time in the 67th century.", The Doctor, "The Tsuranga Conundrum" And, similar to you, I like the clean white/pastel design of the spacecraft. Actually, this story reminds me a bit of the episode "42" with Martha and David's Doctor stuck on the spaceship crashing into the star - and, what a surprise, they're both written by Chris Chibnall. Of course, "42" has the grungy industrial style of spacecraft design rather than this clean white style. I'm happy for both types of spacecraft to be presented to us in Doctor Who - with different centuries producing different spacecraft designs. I do like the story idea of several inhabitants with their own stories and skills. But the stories themselves fall flat for me. I don't think that the episode is too long, it's that the characters' stories do not engage me very much: the story of Yoss and his baby and whether to give it away, and the story of Eve Cicero and her heart condition, and of Mabli the assistant medic - the stories are not very gripping. Although, I suppose, Yoss's story does let us find out more about Ryan's history, so it's not a complete waste of story time. "You can do this, Mabli. You're good enough. You have to believe in yourself. I believe in you. I always have.", Astos, "The Tsuranga Conundrum" As you pointed out the best character on board was Astos, the chief medic, but they killed him off too early. "Oh, please don't be wrong. I'd be so embarrassed.", "And dead. Doctor", The Doctor and Yaz, "The Tsuranga Conundrum" So I don't super-love this story - and that's in spite of the cute Pting - I love its little expression of satisfaction as the bomb inside it goes off. BTW: there were no pictures on IMDB of the Pting or I would certainly have used that (to balance the scary spider from last week). "Don't like being told what to do.", "Yeah, I'm getting that impression.", The Doctor and Astos, "The Tsuranga Conundrum"

You must, Emma and Sam are quite left thinking and tell it like it is, they are on every weekday at 5pm GMT they usually do interviews in the first half and then some fun clips in the second half. May I also say that I find you thoughtful and very well informed on these matters. It’s a real bonus that we share our views as well as our love of Dr Who.

Jenny Smyth

Awww thank you so sooooo much for your kind words :)

Nicologik

I love Luke Beasley as well. Did you see the talks he uploaded with these Maga people? Warning if you haven´t seen it yet, it´s really infuriating. But I admire him for beeing so calm and collected troughout the whole interview. He is a special kind of guy :) And Meidas Touch is great as well :) Thank you for your recommendation. Don´t know that channel yet, but will look into it :)

Nicologik

OMG thank you so much for sharing your story. I am so sorry you had to have this conversation. It´s really annoying. But it really supports my claim, that this little word, has been the reason why Trump is going to be back in office. It really comes down to people not wanting to change anything, and the higher ups telling them to be afraid of change of any kind. Those people don´t even think for themselves anymore. And they don´t even realize that the comfortable life they are all living nowadays only exists because humans have always changed and always developed. They are too blind because of their hatred, that they can´t even see that. I´ve seen videos of immigrants in the US voting for their own deportation, and people voting against the health care system that their life depends on, because they didn´t bother to look into things before it was too late. People got lazy, and just want simple answers for everything, which is not how the world works. And the other side, the people who do see where we are going, they are way too silent. They are to afraid to tell those people how wrong they are. We have to be louder than them. That´s why I chose to talk about this topic, even thought I know it will drive some people away from my channel. But I just had to. By the way, if that lady didn´t even see how bad it turned out for the UK to leave the EU, because she still thinks immigrants are the biggest problem, I don´t think she´ll wake up any time soon.

Yeah I sometimes also have the feeling that her dialogue is a bit off. She says things that don´t belong to the scene, kind of. Doesn´t happen that much, but when it does, it feels as if she is "dumb", cause what she says just doesn´t make any sense. I can´t remember having that feeling with the other doctors before. I know the goal is to make her character feel akward because they want to portray her as a doctor that doesn´t really know how to interact with people. But then again, in crisis situations they make her be so empathatic and understanding towards humans, it just doesn´t make sense to me. Does she understand humans now, or doesn´t she. Just make up your mind already. That´s how I feel. The Peter doctor for example was the least empathetic doctor towards humans in my eyes, he even had to use Claras cards in order to be able to talk to people, but they never made him say things that made him look stupid. Just annoyed, and tired of communicating with humans, but never stupid. Thank you for your kind words, about my opening speech. Had to get it out . Also what I didn´t mention in the video. The word "woke" isn´t "just" a term they use in english speaking countries. They implemented it into the German language as well. They didn´t even bother making up their own word, they just copied the english one. And in German they only use it in the bad context, since it wasn´t used before in our language. So even before this Doctor Who issue the usage of that word was something that made me angry, cause you here it everywhere in this country as well.

Nicologik

I think the main problem with this episode was the fact that there were too many stories at the same time. We opened up so many stories, introduced so many new characters and had really no time to get into depth with any of them. I´d rather have less people but more time to focus on the 4 people that are introduced already. (The Fam)

Nicologik

Yeah I was really upset reading some of the comments. So I thought me adressing that issue directly and also telling those people that there is no place for hate on my channel, would be the best way to get rid of them.

Nicologik

Awww, I didn´t want to make you cry. But thank you for letting me know that my speech ment something for you, that gives me a positive feeling back. Thank you so much :)

Nicologik

Yeah, I have to say I liked it a little more on the German rewatch, but it´s just not a great episode.

Nicologik

So well put Ian you are exactly right.

Jenny Smyth

Yes I have to agree with your opinion of the episode. I too thought the Pting was cute but cute aliens do not a good episode make. This was better than I remembered but a bit forgettable my favourite episode of this series is still to come.

Jenny Smyth

I actually cried during your politics speech. You’re amazing Nicole.

DoctorWho

I’m so glad you mentioned the negativity towards a female doctor in the comments because during Jodie’s era, often time she was overshadowed by people calling the show woke and saying it was ruined because Jodie was the doctor. It was infuriating especially beucase Jodie Whittaker is so insanely talented and such a great actor. She’s amazing and her doctor is my favourite.

DoctorWho

I pretty much agree with you about this episode. There just isn't enough here to last the 50 minutes even with three separate story lines going on. As such it feels like the plot line with the father giving birth is there to give Ryan and Graham something to do. Although it does allow for that chat between Ryan and Yaz which gives a bit more depth to Ryan's character. I give it 2/5 and rank it 127th/140. I do like the Doctor in this episode though once she gets going.

Jade Ellis

Interesting that you should mention Jodie's dialogue. The thing that most people (including me) have taken issue with has been the fact that the scripts tend to give her character too many speeches where she dumps a lot of background information onto us. In other words, Chris Chibnell likes to tell us (about creatures, planets, history etc) rather than show us. It is not as bad as some viewers and critics make out but it is there. This episode is too long to sustain interest in its content. But I do like the P'ting and the space ship as much as you do. And the man giving birth does give Ryan and Graham an opportunity for a bit of character development. As you are beginning to see, this series tries out a lot of new ideas and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. And some don't seem very much like Doctor Who as we have known it. not necessarily a bad thing in itself, but too many changes all at once can easily put viewers off. I liked your opening comments. Especially about the silly use of the word "woke" as an all purpose insult. It started out as just an American vernacular way of saying awakened or aware. Which is obviously a good thing.

Stephen Males

100% to your comments and opinions...and that extends to your thoughts on this particular episode as well (although I feel more inclined to agree with the IMDB rating!) I had an experience the other day. I had just returned from walking my dog, and my neighbour greeted me and started chatting. She's a dear old lady, and has often made me laugh with her (terrible) jokes. This was the day after Trumps re-election, and naturally the subject came up. She expressed her belief that (and I'm paraphrasing as closely as I can here) "it was a good thing, and that Trump would put a stop to all this w*ke nonsense, because it had gone too far; and, not only that, we should follow suit in the UK. Time to get rid of all the immigrants as well, and put the Great back into Britain." At which point, instead of stepping away and avoiding a confrontation, I asked her if she realised that my late wife (who my neighbour had been very fond of) had been an immigrant? That she had come to the UK at the age of 7, from the middle east, with little command of the English language? That she had not only fully integrated, but that she had added more to my appreciation of the culture of the UK, and to cultures elsewhere? Which, in turn, added to my outlook on life? Her reply (after a brief hesitation) was "Oh, but your wife was different to all those OTHER immigrants!" Ghastly as it sounds, she probably thought she was giving a compliment. At which point (perhaps fortunately) my dog set off my car alarm, so I was able to escape. The lesson being: that if even this pleasant, harmless, elderly lady could be SO ignorant and intolerant, what chance does the rest of society have? This is how Trump was re-elected, imo.

Ian Smith

I love Luke Beasley, and I have watched Meidas touch. Can I also recommend The Majority report

Jenny Smyth

Before you even start the reaction I am cheering you loudly you have put those words so well. I am so glad you are on the side of wokeness. xxxx
