Yes I agree this show is all about differences and not being bigoted, and yet some of the most bigoted people complain about it being inclusive all the time. A real shame.

I agree with everything you said. :) And thank you for the "well done". I´m glad I recognized her, after I looked at her picture for the second time :)

It´s a shame that people are so close minded watching such a diverse show. Now that I know this I will be able to handle the IMBD ratings with the right mindset. Thank you for letting me know. :)
I liked the episode as well, and Nardole might develope into a really likable character. So far he´s pretty funny. :)

I think you are saying it right Peter, either deliberately for comic effect, or because of his Scottish accent is making it sound a little strange.

So how do I pronounce the name Nardole correctly then. Cause when the doctor said it, it sounded like Nardoile. :D
Oh that´s where I know him from :) I do know little Britain and I knew I had seen his face before. What a funny coincidence :)

Ohhhhhhh thank you for clarifying that title to me. I must have overheard that sentence in the episode. :)
It´s a shame that some Dr. Who viewers seem to be so close minded about certain topics. I will never understand that way of thinking.
How can someone watch a show that involves living in the future, creating diversity with different species and planets, and yet have a mindset from the stone age and be offended by diversity.
When I heard the name Bill it also reminded me of Billie, but my mind went straight to Billie Piper :D

I find this to be a very solid season opener. It establishes potential plot threads, and introduces a lovely companion (my favourite of the revived series). Capaldi is relaxed and witty; Nardole is fun; and it feels like a fresh start after all the character complications of Clara and River. Additionally, well done for recognising Susan's face :)

I wouldn't take too much from the IMBD rating for this episode (and probably the entirety of season 10). Most of the 1 and 2 star reviews on IMDB talk about "diversity being shoved down our throats," the "LGBT brigade" and the "PC [political correctness] Police.' Sadly, there is a large population who seemed to be triggered by any kind of representation on screen.
Personally I'm a fan of this episode. As much as I'm a Matt Lucas fan, I wasn't really a big fan of him in the 2 christmas specials and wasn't too happy when I saw he is now a 2nd companion (based on the fact his name is in the opening credits). Thankfully, I warmed up to Nardole pretty quickly in this episode.

I’d forgotten how good this episode is. I really like Bill, before the series started there was an introducing Bill short, that was basically the dalek scene. I’m glad you like Nardole Peter has a strange way of saying the name which may be his Scottish accent. I really like how the doctor goes back in time and takes pictures of Bills mum so she has something of her. Nardole is played by Matt Lucas who is,in the uk a well known comic actor. Best known for the sketch comedy series little Britain, which coincidentally had a voice over from Tom Baker (the fourth doctor) This is a series which I have only watched once so it will be interesting for me.

The reason the episode is called The Pilot is that "pilot located" is what the "puddle" liquid says when it decides that Heather is the one to absorb into itself. Heather effectively becomes the pilot of a liquid space/time ship. But, of course, it is also a jokey reference to it being episode one of a new series.
I'm with you on the rating of the episode. The IMDB one is ludicrous in my opinion. Despite loving Clara most of all the Nu Hu companions I really liked Bill immediately. I think she was written to be a real contrast with Clara which I would say was the right decision. Someone who asks a lot of questions rather than wanting to be just like the Doctor herself. I do know that some people online have been very bigoted about Bill liking girls.
Oddly, a couple of American reactors insist on calling her "Billie" which I suppose is because they understand that as a girl's name but can't come to terms with one being called Bill. By the way, Bill is what everyone called William Hartnell - who played the first Doctor. And his real life wife was called Heather. Steven Moffat claims that this is just a coincidence but I don't think anyone believes him! Btw, I'm not sure if this is who you were talking about when you were trying to decide if she was simply a friend, but the woman that Bill lives with is her foster mother.
I love the photos of River and Susan, the Doctor's grand daughter on his desk. It was Susan who made up the word Tardis from those initials while they were on Earth so the acronym does make sense really as she was attending an English school.. And I really love the way that Bill thinks the Tardis is just a "knock through" room and then a kitchen and then a lift/elevator! And the final scene with Bill's comment about memory wipes is guaranteed to make my eyes water, especially when Clara's theme starts to play.
I hope you enjoy the series!
