Dr. Who Series 8 - Episode 12 FINALE :)

What a MASTERPLAN ! Pun intended :D

Dr. Who Series 8 - Episode 12 FINALE :)

Comments

Hi Andrew, sorry for the delay. Hope my reply isn´t too late yet. :) Haha you´re right. I guess it´s not too healthy to get offered a trip with the doctor :D But I´d say yes anyways. Hoping it´ll be different for me :D :D Missy is great indeed, I loved her performance so much. She really elevated this episode. And the scenes with her and the doctor were exceptional. :) I kept the Christmas backround :) Also thank you for letting me know about the Classic Who references :)

"Bow ties are cool.", Osgood, "Death in Heaven" Nice to see our UNIT folks back and always nice to get Classic Who callbacks. And sad to see Osgood get killed in the plane - and just after the Doctor offered to take her with him. We remember this happened to some other characters: Madame de Pompadour - "The Girl in the Fireplace", Astrid - "Voyage of the Damned", Jenny - "The Doctor's Daughter", Rita - "The God Complex". Looking back over that list, it doesn't seem healthy to be offered this - they all died! (It turned out it wasn't the end for Jenny, but she did die in the episode and didn't end up travelling with the Doctor.) We got some story resolutions in this episode - some that we hadn't even remembered that we needed. We find out that Missy had been the woman in the shop who gave the phone number to Clara and also ties it in with the advertisement in "Deep Breath". I appreciate that the writers tied up those loose ends nicely. I agree with Ian, above, that the weak part of this story is the "rain" causing dead people to become Cybermen. But the story is completely elevated by the wonderfully crazy Missy. I like her Marilyn Monroe "Happy Birthday, Mr President" impression and her "Mary Poppins" descent from the clouds. "I'm the Doctor", Clara, "Death in Heaven" The Jenna/Peter switch in the title sequence after Clara claimed to be the Doctor was nice. There was a fun reference to some classic TV shows that make me happy - "Thunderbirds" and "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons". They were both science fiction shows from the 1960s - with marionette puppets. (I guess I should say "Supermarionation" puppets). The banging from inside a shelf in the morgue reminded me of the 8th Doctor (Paul)'s regeneration from the TV Movie. Yes, I think you should keep a Christmas background for the Christmas special.

Thank you for trying to explain the moon situation. And I know that it´s not realistic that a moon would be an egg. but it isn´t it just as unrealistic that there is an alien that has a telephonebox for a time machine and can travel through space and time. That´s what I don´t get. Where is the difference? Thank you for your thoughts about the episode as well :) I´m not going to do a series 8 wrap up. Unfortunately it´s not possible for me at the moment. By the way, I think my least favorite series is Series one so far.

Nicologik

Thank you for your thoughts about the episode, and yes that ending was heartbreaking indeed. I really hope they will stop lying to each other and start beeing a team again.

Nicologik

Thank you :) I will do it from time to time, depending on the topic. :) Yes, on Patreon are only polite people :)

Nicologik

Yes the IMBD rating was really mean. I´m glad you liked the episode more as well :) And I am looking forward to Series 9 already :)

Nicologik

Thank you for your summary, I agree with it 100%. :)

Nicologik

Thank you for beeing so kind. :) Such a nice comment :)

Ok starting with your question about those who can't except the moon is an egg in this show. I think my answer and Andrew's comments on that episodes pretty much sums it up but it's basically to do with suspension of belief. The moon thing would be almost an essay if I went into it and I'm sure you don't want that so I'll go back to the bacteria in that story. We know micro bacteria is that size and don't spin webs. So when we're told that's what the creatures are it breaks the suspension of belief. now had the doctor had some line about it's bacteria but it's mutated because of whatever that would provide an explanation to allow the suspension of belief. Back to this episode. Rating 4/5 and it's ranked 35/140 so a strong finish for a series I didn't really like. Miss y is great, love the Doctor in this and the return of the Unit characters. I agree that the Clara and Danny stuff doesn't quite hit as hard as I guess it was suppose to. This may be one reason fans have ranked it lower. I don't mind Danny but I wasn't that invested in his character. Another reason some fans don't like this story is because they turned the Brigadier into a cyberman which they thought was disrespectful. I can see the point but I do, like you, find it a very touching moment and a good way of saving Kate. One thing I don't like, and I've mentioned it previously is Clara's behaviour. The emotional blackmail scene during the phone call. The Doctor is on a plane that is about to break apart facing Missy. He's just seen one of his best friends daughter sucked out the plane and plummet to her death, another person he liked enough to suggest her coming aboard the Tardis disintegrated by Missy. I mean seriously Clara, F*** you. On the flip side her pretending to be the Doctor at the start is great and a fantastic bit of acting. The fact that they even changed the credits so that Jenna Coleman's name came before Capaldi's and replaced the Doctor's eyes with hers just adds to it. I don't know if you're going to do a series 8 wrap up as I noticed you didn't do one for series 7 so I leave my overall thoughts on this series for now but in case you don't thank you for these reactions. I've really enjoyed re evaluating what I think is the worse series of new Who and now have to think weather I still think that or weather to swop it around with series 2 (my second least favourite)

I would definitely give this one a nine point something. Michelle Gomez's performance as Missy is astonishing. Terrifying and sometimes funny when she really shouldn't be. At least not in real life. Hard to get my head around the idea of particles that can turn corpses into fully functioning cybermen but I have accepted odder ideas before. I know the developments in the Clara/Danny relationship were mostly off screen but I think many people would have objected if it had become too big a part of the stories. I still bought into the emotions they felt at the end. Kate Stewart being rescued by her dad, who finally gets his salute from the Doctor is a nice touch. And the scene at the very end where the Doctor and Clara are both lying with the best intentions, each trying to be kind to the other one, is heart breaking. They are idiots but unless one of them decides to make things harder for the other one, they just won't know. Their faces during the hug says it all.

I think you are right to call people out for mean comments, there is too much of that on social media and you don’t want it on your channel. I hope we on patreon are a polite bunch ? xx

Jenny Smyth

I agree with you that the IMBD rating is a bit mean I would probably give it 8.9 I like the ending most of all Missy is great and the actress who plays her is amazing. I thought that maybe you hadn’t remembered Osgood from day of the doctor, but you put that right in your summing up. Great acting from Capaldi. I am looking forward to the next series no spoilers but I think the next series is the best of Capaldi’s era.

Weak points: Although I'm fine with the Clara/Danny scenes, they go on too long and tend to slow things down; and I hate the 'nasty rain turns dead people into rocket powered Cybermen' idea. Strong points: Missy's sense of humor; bringing back the Brigadier for one final goodbye (even though he ends up as an aforementioned rocket powered Cyberman!); the Danny resolution with the young boy; and, MOST OF ALL, the perfect ending where the two pudding brains lie to each other in order not to upset the other. It isn't a happy ending - but it's a very honest one! Overall, I'd give it an 8.5 Overall, the most interesting series of the Revived era....so far. An older, edgier Doctor; an often toxic relationship with the companion; and all the clues to Missy (going as far back as Bells of St John!) Onwards, Nicol. :D

Ian Smith

I'm commenting this before watching the actual reaction but about you apologising for last weeks Patreon upload. There is absolutely no need to be upset with yourself over it, its completely alright. Sometimes these things happen and we cant do anything about it. I'm sure we can all wait a few more hours or days when something like this happens. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these. :)
