Misc news and Happy Holiday wishes
Added 2019-12-02 08:57:33 +0000 UTCFirst off I wish everyone a happy holiday, no matter what religion or denomination of such you are. While I am not overtly religious, I do try to respect others with that, even if at times there's so much Christmas that I feel like I am getting allergic to it.
I also wish to thank everyone for supporting this map for over a year now (some of you at-least). I couldn't have done it without you. So I figured I'd share some of the plans for the map.
For one I have to finish the large civilian airport, though that's not front and center yet.
I am going to work more on the destroyed/ruined section of town and the areas nearby to it. I will also be putting several (not just one!) versions of the 11-foot-8 bridge (both +8 inches and not). So you can can-opener trucks all day long if you want. There already is a prototype if you take the new exit I just added off the highway, it's the next one past the mall as you go up the hill. So there will be a lot of 'rust belt' theming over by the mall and past it. On the hill above the mall won't be so abandoned though (at the same interchange).
My video card has died. Long live the mighty Rx 480 8gb card, it scrambled the desktop this morning and then proceeded to make everything like molasses. It lasted the 3 years it's warranty stated, and two weeks more. She is dead, captain.
So I pulled my old 7850 2gb card out, and am using that Radeon card for the mean time, which can't even run reflections on the maps, and even without those on, only goes 30~40fps on medium textures. Ugh. So now I have to keep my eyes peeled for the video board replacement. Not going overboard though.
So what am I purchasing software-wise? I have a 40~50$ renewal on the World Machine license, and I am looking at purchasing Substance Designer to make better textures with. It's currently about 100$ vs it's normal 150$ price tag. This of course comes after video board expenses, currently, as I'd like to keep this thing going.
I try to be transparent with how I use the funding for this map. I feel better about this as sometimes, even with the existing monthly cost of Maya every month, it can be a bit of wonder where the money goes. So I try to keep everyone in the know about what goes on with it.
There will be an update out before Christmas for Patreon supporters, followed days later by a public resource update on Beamng website repository. I wish all of you a happy fun holiday, and I hope you all get what you want this year.
