One of the Many Watch Posts around the Dark Ocean

Tyler yawns as he keeps watch outside of the Dark Ocean during his scheduled work hours. Because this is one of the most boring jobs he could’ve gotten. Even if it pays really well and doesn’t require any real work.

All he does is sit at the small station right outside of the pitch black ocean and stare at the ocean for several hours every day. Making sure nothing strange happens.

And while he has heard word that some strange monsters have left the Dark Ocean in other areas, nothing has happened in his watch zone. So those monsters are the problems of other people.

Tyler continues watching the Dark Ocean for about an hour before yawning again and beginning to look at his terminal to play some games. Only for a loud snapping sound to echo from the Dark Ocean seconds after he turns away from it.

When he lifts his head again to look at the Dark Ocean, he finds his eyes widening in shock at the sight of several large tentacles reaching out of the Dark Ocean. Completely smooth black tentacles that look almost like pure darkness.

Not the type of tentacles a squid or octopus would have, but tentacles that appear to be made out of magic.

Tyler blinks at the sight of the enormous tentacles before he is snapped out of his shock by a voice coming from his terminal belonging to one of the other watch posts around the Dark Ocean.

“Watch Post Officer #8 reporting a disturbance in the form of several enormous seemingly magical tentacles.”

But that isn’t the last report as another voice echoes from the terminal before the first even finishes.

“Watch Post Officer #42 reporting various large tentacles likely of magical origin.”

And several others begin reporting as well, one after another.

Tyler feels his eyes widening more and more as he realizes through the various reports that the magical tentacles are appearing all around the entire Dark Ocean. But he doesn’t see any results when he identifies the tentacles, likely implying that the tentacles truly are just magic and not part of any creature’s body.

The reports continue coming in one after another until they eventually trail off as everyone realizes that it’s happening all across the entire Dark Ocean’s borders.

Part of Tyler feels the potential emergency that this is, but another part of him just feels annoyed that his gametime was interrupted.

Despite that, he still focuses on the tentacles of darkness as they stretch further and further out of the Dark Ocean. Continuing to grow in size despite already stretching across and entire ocean.

Just how large is the source behind these tentacles…

Tyler watches for a little bit before growing more wary when the tentacles get close to the watch post. At which point he sets up the emergency defenses of the watch post just in case.

Then the tentacles of darkness suddenly slam into the watch post’s barrier that appears upon his activating the defenses. But unlike what he was expecting, the barrier shatters in an instant, shocking Tyler with the tentacle’s strength.

“Fuck this, I’m outta here!” Tyler shouts before fleeing. Meanwhile he hears reports one after another about the other Watch Posts being destroyed as well.

While he’s fleeing, though, he turns his head around to look back at the Dark Ocean, at which point he sees something almost as terrifying as the tentacles.

Swarms of monsters made out of pure darkness swimming out of the Dark Ocean, with their forms being akin to humanoid fish with sharp fangs filling their mouths and no signs of intelligence.

But unlike the tentacles, the dark monsters do have identify results.

And the results terrify Tyler to his very core.

So Tyler continues fleeing as fast as he can to get far away.

Damnit, this was supposed to be a nice and easy job!!

Aqua

“And cut! Great work today! Be sure to be ready for the preview screening next week everyone!” the director of the drama I’m currently filming says as soon as the last scene is finished filming. Making me stretch a little before I go and change clothes. Then I get the last updates of the day from Rhett and head back to Oceana.

Only to find an emergency awaiting me when I hear my terminal buzzing like crazy from over half a dozen calls at once.

Uh, what’s going on?

I frown before accepting the calls in a group call format because I’m too lazy to accept each one individually.

“Lady Aqua, an emergency has happened in the Dark Ocean! Would you-”

“Miss Aqua, we need your aide with an emergency-”

“Miss Azuranth, please lend us your assistance-”

“Miss Azuranth-”

“Aqua! Help-”

All of the various Guildmasters of the different oceans begin talking over each other at once, making it rather difficult to understand any of them very clearly. But even with that, I can clearly make out the words ‘Dark Ocean’, ‘Emergency’, and that they need help.

Right. I remember that something was happening in the Dark Ocean as of late.

I purse my lips for a moment before feeling a faint grin stretch across my face.

Maybe this is new prey coming to me?

That would be nice.

“One of you speak, the rest of you be quiet,” I tell them without hesitation. Because I can’t get much out of them if they’re all talking over each other in a panic.

After that, the Guildmaster of the Fortal Hunter’s Guild Branch explains the situation for me while the others grow silent. Albeit with a lot of activity going on in their backgrounds, no doubt due to the emergency.

And it doesn’t take long before I figure out what’s going on.

The Dark Ocean, which is the ocean at the very top of the world of Oceana in the middle of all the other oceans, suddenly had a bunch of magical tentacles leaving the pitch black waters of the ocean. And to make matters worse, powerful humanoid monsters made out of darkness started emerging from the Dark Ocean after the tentacles.

Monsters that are over level five hundred on average.

My grin grows even wider.

Finally! Some great prey to hunt and increase my REGEN stat!

It’s been a while since I could go all out raising my REGEN stat.

That said, the monsters are currently going berserk attacking everything and everyone they see. Using dark magic at that.

And they’re dragging the people they kill into the Dark Ocean afterwards. Almost like they’re going out to gather food for whatever is making the tentacles.

The tentacles, on the other hand, don’t seem to stretch too far into the other oceans. Probably due to some sort of range limit.

I watch the recordings they send me of the current events for a few seconds before nodding my head and agreeing to help.

Both because a lot of people will die if I don’t, and because I want to hunt them.

And lastly, the monster behind all of this has a high chance of being the highest level monster on the planet. What with this ocean being at the center of all the other oceans, it being completely unexplored thanks to the ever permeating darkness, and the monsters being so high in level. Even at the higher depths.

So if I go there, I might be able to finally claim this planet as my own.

With that in mind, I immediately set off in the direction of the Dark Ocean.

Let’s see how my new skills and my abyssal servants stack up against an army of dark monsters.
