His beef with Bronn is out of a weird sort of jealousy (that he can never admit even to himself) - being able to be happy and free of noble birth while still being a fearsome warrior. He overcompensates his brutality to hide his conflicted nature - he's the most morally grey character of the series in my view. He's clearly done evil things, but he has lines he won't cross and secretly deep down wants to be a hero he knows he can never be. So he drinks, he fights, he kills, he's awful to everyone.

2023-07-02 23:58:43 +0000 UTCThe trap in the Blackwater is so much worse in the books - there's also a huge chain built across the bay that is raised when half the fleet passes by, cutting Stannis' force in half. Then the wildfire goes off, and the trapped ships have nowhere to run, and the entire bay burns.

Joffrey atop his safe walls until he got scared and ran, meanwhile Stannis led the charge up the beach and was first up the ladder. I would be more forgiving if not for the fact Robb about as old as Joffrey in the show and only two years older in the books when he is leading his men in the front. Also funny when Tyrion rallies his men and defames Stannis, but it is well established in the books that Stannis does not allow rape among his ranks. Punishing his men who are caught (Gelding them, or castrating them), though with an army as large as his (20,000?) there are bound to be devious acts like rape and pillaging bound to happen. He cannot watch each and every man of course. Being Cersei, it makes sense she would rather her kid die a painless death. Her experience with children in a conquered city were the brutal killing of Prince Rhaegar's two children.
