Just watched the 2x08 episode and I have no words for that ending. The Wilderness Chooses, but so do the Yellowjackets.

I was thinking about this, too! I think Ben's been retreating to his memories about his ex to sort of make his giving up easier (not exactly disassociating, but more like -- maladaptive daydreaming, which is actually a thing that is a real problem people can have) -- but whatever's going on is so much more powerful, even Ben's freaking inner self-delusions are like 'aight Imma head out'. lol

That's the thing - I think we're gonna find out eventually that just about *all* of them have a dark counterpart. We just haven't seen Shauna's yet. We've seen Tai and Lottie's, but not Shauna's.
Though, we haven't really seen any signs of Nat's dark counterpart yet, either - which might bump her up to the top of the list of Yellowjackets who might have killed Travis (and not just in the guilt-stricken metaphorical way, either).
If she has one, Nat's dark twin might be worse than all of them put together (plus she does have that rough history with her dad being abusive and accidentally shooting himself like a jackass). Either that or the creators go the complete opposite and she's like this angelic, untouchably good being (it would be poetic, considering how Nat blames herself for Travis's death but the team said early on that NAT was the reason they even got back to civilization - implying she does something else to help the team get back, even more significant than what she's already done out there - so for me, that kinda locks in her chaotic good status, narratively-wise).
But that's the thing I really love about this show - the writing team believes in women's wrongs! So many of these characters are such absolute disasters, but I kinda love every single one of them (except you, Shauna, now you're really super creeping me out - even more than Misty, and that's saying something lol). I've never been mad at Van, though. Van is my baby who never did a thing wrong in her life.
ALSO! That reminds me - I totally forgot to mention the chap playing Caligula! I recognized his voice immediately but couldn't remember his name until I thought about it for a second - that's John Cameron Mitchell! He played Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch! I'm hoping it's just because some of the crew loved his stage show/movie when he released them and not some metanarrative hint of some sort but like they've been fucking with the theme song and switching stuff around/in/out during the opening credits, too?! - and so far I think I've counted at *least* 3 versions of the theme song (a wilder rock version that I'm pretty sure they used for the entirety of the intros in s1), a much, MUCH calmer version they used for the first ep of s2, and then the 'spooky' version we heard this episode). So like... anything is possible lol O.o
But yeah, signs are pointing to something happening with the whole Adam thing -- Kevyn is still hot on her heels and, technically speaking, Shauna is now officially on the run during an on-going murder investigation. Which doesn't look SUPER good, if I'm honest lol
Also - it just occurred to me: what if I was wrong and Shauna really is Pit Girl? But that was her 'true' self dying in the pit, while the dark counterpart takes over and is just in her place from then on? Hmm.

im super curious about the ben and paul interaction. the only thing javi has said to anyone is "she told me not to come back". laura lee kicked lottie out of the fantasy she was in, and now paul telling ben he "isnt welcome here". parallel that with jackie being embraced and loved, and the same with shaunas baby. maybe the death dream is a limbo between life and death and thats where javi was for all those months.

Its crazy thinking about the darkness/counter parts of them all like that. I look at Tai as having the crazy obvious "other tai" counterpart, but the others also totally have crazy counter parts in their own ways but I never really looked at the big picture like that. The therapist shocked us, its funny tho cause I went and watched Horror Bandwagon after we watched and they started episode 7 bringing up people in comments thinking it was all in her head 😭 Praise to all the actresses and their characters/portrayals, I've never watched a show with this many people that I seem to both sympathize with and hate at the same time 😂 Shauna's dark side is definitely gonna be key. Bridgette and I have this feeling this season is gonna end with her being arrested for Adam's murder tho.

And vice versa, the last place Walter wants to be is against Misty. He's screwed if he's against her because my money is on Misty haha.

Regarding Lottie's therapy sessions - I seriously have thought there was something off about them ever since we met grown-up Lottie at the start of this season. Like, the way the therapist would talk about Lottie's visions - as though *she* was having them. As though they were real, and Lottie wasn't just schizophrenic.
Also - notice just how much they're mentioning that? They've done it since teen-Lottie's episode in s1: they keep bringing up Switzerland, her schizophrenia, of course they all remember what she did during their time in the wild, and the horrible mental/emotional state she was in once they were rescued and taken back to civilization.
There was a reason for ALL of that. And the ending scene of this episode was why. This was showing us Lottie, as herself - of her own sound mind and body - sacrificing her blood to help her friend who was in pain. This wasn't a spell, in this case - this was *her* decision, her sacrifice to help her friend.
Which is why Lottie is so horrified when she hears her own voice coming from the Antler Queen, saying: "Does a hunt that has no violence feed anyone?" Because it reveals that the Antler Queen is essentially Lottie's dark wilderness counterpart, much like Sleepwalking Tai is Taissa's counterpart - confirming that what Travis said about Nat being right, was spot on: the darkness got to them in those woods and they carried it back to civilization with them once they were rescued.
The Antler Queen tips her hand by saying that, though - she wants them all together again, because the wilderness entity wants *another* violent hunt and wants alll of the survivors to be there and participate.
Part of me also wonders, though - especially after that last scene and, as you two pointed out, basically her ENTIRE story for the course of the show so far - if Shauna might not turn out to be the one who killed Travis and brought them all together. Or, at least, the dark wilderness version of Shauna may have done, anyway. The common thread I see in Shauna's story is how she was stuck in Jackie's shadow, and how JACKIE saw her - that was a really key part. Jackie pointed out that Shauna could have stepped out of it at any time, but she chose not to. She wanted to stay close to Jackie. Being with Jackie was more important than any of the crap she had to put up with - including being on the soccer team! Shauna has a tendency to blame everyone else for decisions she made, and then is shocked when her life is a complete shambles. Still, with Jackie and Shauna, I always get this vibe that Shauna was obsessed with Jackie - like, she didn't know if she wanted to be her, wanted to have her life, or maybe just *wanted* Jackie and couldn't face that about herself?
Like Nat pointed out last season - ALL of them are fucked up because of what happened out there, but Nat (who is, imo, the most empathic/compassionate of the group) was the only one who it was noticeably affecting. Misty looks back on it like you would fond memories of summer camp, while Tai and Shauna had done their damnedest to move on with their lives and forget about it all, but Nat just couldn't. Out of all the group, though - Biscuit-murder aside - I'd say Shauna is the one the darkness has the most powerful hold over. She *likes* hurting people, enjoys being violent and threatening people and can dismember a body as easily as she dresses a rabbit for dinner. Shauna never left the woods.

Yeah, the mention about Sherlock and Moriarty from Walter stuck with me, too, honestly. Especially since I've *been* in the Sherlock (both BBC and RDJ/Jude Law) fandoms for years, so it immediately pricked my ears. For me, I read it as Walter wanting to find someone worthy of appreciating his genius. An artist is nothing without an audience and Walter knows that the clueless twerps on the Citizen Detective subreddit aren't on the money about Adam.
The question is - is he looking for his Sherlock to take out or just bring in to appreciate his work? And, if it's the latter, what IS his work... oh shit. What if Walter was the one who went after Travis? He seemed uninterested in that part of Misty's story/life, but he could so very easily be lying his ass off about that and be the Yellowjackets' number one stan. Nobody is more likely to be the ultimate big bad guy than the independently wealthy, probably unhinged dude who can track or hack any information he needs at any time. He found Misty at HER DAY JOB - you think he couldn't find Travis, even if he really, really didn't want to be found? O.o
That, I think, is specifically why Walter's attention turned to Misty - because she was downvoting all of his theories about Adam going missing. And he considers her to be THE best if not THEEEE best citizen detective on the board, so if *she's* downvoting him, and he trusts her deductions - that's gonna raise a red flag, if you're Walter.
At this point, Misty's leaning back in his direction, and I'm afraid that's going to turn out to be a bad thing. Like, if I'm right? The last place you wanna be, if you're Misty, is anywhere near Walter.

The second we were introduced to the therapist and the therapist referred to Lottie's hallucinations as "visions," I knew something was off. No therapist would ever refer to a patient's hallucinations as visions.

I always come back to that line that Walter said that he "wants to be the Moriarty to Misty's Sherlock". So I do believe that he could be trying to prove that Misty is a murderer. I also don't think we have to like Shauna just like with the rest of them none of them actually that likeable haha. Misty murdered that 'reporter', Natalie was terrible to Kevyn, Tai killed her dog, unintentionally tormented her son at night, broke Ali's leg, and almost killed her wife in that crash. At this moment it really is team Lottie because so far she hasn't caused any damage and seems to want to help people (I mean we will see as the series goes on how much her beliefs do potentially hurt people). Van seems fine but I hope they give more to her character.
