The Rise of the Winter Wolf - Book 4 - Chapter 6 - Peep

                                                                        Executive Stream

“-and you think you’re right about thi-” Diane suddenly pauses in the middle of her sentence as a chiming sound begins to echo through the room. After that, the light symbolizing the host’s hologram as being hidden suddenly changes color, prompting the hologram to immediately appear in the center of the room.

“Hello to all of you executives and guests,” Gerald Burney says almost as soon as his hologram appears in the center of the room, “we are now hosting another Executive gathering in the main hall of the Executive Stream.”

The man has the same appearance as when the show first started for this dungeon run, with his blue scaled, four-armed form hovering in the center of each and every room.

“This meeting will be about the Technalogia faction’s appearance on Aegis,” he continues without so much as blinking. “If you would like to come to the meeting, it will begin in just ten minutes. If not, then please, continue to relax and watch the livestreams!”

The host then vanishes, with the lights switching back again in the rooms that previously had the holograms hidden.

After he vanishes, Diane turns to look at Leo with a raised brow, not even bothering to ask her question out loud.

Leo immediately shakes his head and says, “I’m not going to bother attending. We all know that Tiamat is going to be personally dealing with the faction, and the only interests I have on Aegis is the single base that one of my subordinates set up there.”

Diane’s other brow raises in faint surprise at his answer before she tilts her head slightly and asks, “But what about that forsaken apprentice of yours?”

The man just shakes his head again while turning to focus on Ruth’s screen as he answers, “Her family’s already died since the start of the initialization.”

A few seconds pass in silence before Diane nods her head and gets up while saying, “Alright, I’ll still be going for Wolf’s sake.”

Leo nods his head without taking his eyes off of the screen as Diane leaves the room.

                                                                     Ten minutes later

The faint chatter running throughout the hall quiets down as a large hologram appears in the center of it depicting a vague representation of the entirety of Aegis. Following after that, various spaceships appear in dozens of locations throughout both the planet’s surface and above it in space.

“This is the current situation on Aegis in regard to the Technalogia faction threat,” the host begins, his voice sounding both deep and distant at the same time, as if he were talking with a wall or a body of water in between himself those that can hear him, “and just like with every other Technalogia faction appearance, the primordial dragon has volunteered to fight them herself.”

Almost everyone turns their gaze to Tiamat as he says this before giving various displays of appreciation.

Very few of the executives actually wish to help those on the new world, but some of them must combat them whenever the faction attacks, otherwise the Technalogia faction would take everything for themselves and gain strength over the System factions.

Tiamat simply ignores them all as she stares at and memorizes the locations of each and every ship.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the hall from Tiamat and her Ascendants, Diane focuses entirely on the spaceships closest to safe zone 52.

‘It doesn’t look like there’ll be very many of them,’ she thinks with a frown as she sees the seven or so spaceships in the few thousand or so kilometers around the safe zone, ‘but it’s still too many for my liking.’

“What’s more,” the host continues while turning his gaze towards Diane, “is that the Werewolf Empress has also notified me that she will be taking care of the ships in the areas around safe zone 52.”

The various administrators and moderators turn to look at her with surprise before seemingly remembering something and giving her a simple nod of their head in appreciation.

Diane almost snorts at their reaction before lightly shaking her head.

The host simply looks at her and gives her a nod as he thinks, ‘Of course she would protect that area. It’s where her heir’s family is, after all.’

He then turns to look at a woman who’s wearing a light set of leather armor with a bow draped over her shoulder before he says, “Lastly, the Roaming Hunter, Cyrene Hunter, has also promised to take out her own share of the ships.”

This announcement comes with a different reaction from the other two as the majority of the executives within the room turn to her with different expressions of shock.

The woman in question just raises a brow at their attention without saying a word.

Meanwhile, Diane lightly chuckles as she thinks, ‘I forgot that none of them knew about her sponsoring the brat that’s subtlety chasing after Wolf.’

“Aside from those three administrators, there are a couple of moderators that have also volunteered to help the newly initiated galaxy…” the host continues, breaking the gathered people out of their shock as he begins to list off several different names.

A few days later, on the eighty-sixth

I stand firmly in place without blinking as I stare into the small little branched cavern connected to the tunnel. Or to be more specific, at the strange, and completely out of place, creature currently sitting inside of it.

What the… hell?

It takes me nearly an entire minute of simply standing in place staring at the small little chicken before I begin to walk towards it.

“I almost forgot you existed…” I mutter out loud, drawing the little chick’s attention towards me. The immortal baby chicken doesn’t seem to have grown at all since I last saw it, and when I identify it, it still doesn’t have any sort of level to its name.

It really is just here as a sort of mascot…

The immortal chick simply stares at me for a few seconds, makes a short little peep noise that – if I’m being honest – is rather adorable, before it continues pecking at the rocks at the ground for some reason.

Because why not, I continue to slowly approach the baby chicken before kneeling down and reaching my hand out to pet it.

Surprisingly, it actually lets me do so as it continues to peck randomly at the ground.

At some point, I pick it up and hold it in the palms of both of my hands held together, and the thing just begins to stare at me as I do so.

It didn’t try to run away?

Interesting.

I look around my current location, both at the red-hot walls of the cavern and the various pools of lava around us before focusing on the baby chick again.

“You’re rather out of place here, aren’t you, little fella?” I mutter to the creature, to which it simply lets out another adorable little peep.
