Thanks for explaining the Sherlock Holmes reference. :) Since I have not seen a single "Mission Impossible" movie, I think I do know the guy from "Fear the Walking dead". That might be a possibility :) I liked the re-use of the spacesuit as well, although it reminded me of times that weren´t fun at all :D You´re right, that "Help me" on the wall doesn´t really make sense when you look at it that way. Thanks for pointing it out :) Yeah, I noticed that chalk circle issue as well. I don´t know why they did that. I thought it meant something, but I´m kinda disapointed that it didn´t. Yeah, that Classic Who reference is so strange. You´d think they would want to get there references right, if it doesn´t matter, why include it to begin with? Thank you for mentioning the pictures, I like them as well. They are soooo beautiful :)

I find your rating so interesting. You rate the episode 77/140 and say you really like it. May I ask you, out of sheer curiosity. Where in this rating system is your line? I mean at what number do the episodes change from "i quite like ´em", to "I don´t like them at all"? No pressure to reply though, I am just curious. :)

Funny how you enjoyed the episode up until the last 10 minutes, and I enjoyed especially those last 10 minutes haha :D But I can understand why you would feel like that. The Metabilis bit is strange. Why would they place a reference and not pay attention to it beeing delivered in the way it´s meant to be. Seems very odd to be honest.

Thank you for beeing considerate when it comes to my additional comments during the editing. Sometimes it´s really crazy, how different an episode can be for me, watching it for the second time, in private. Makes such a huge difference sometimes. The "sliver of ice line" wasn´t really something that shocked me, cause like you said, we already know he has that darker side in him. But I still don´t think Emma was honest, when she talked about Clara. Something just doesn´t fell right to me. Thank you for mentioning the scene from Rings of Akhaten. I didn´t really notice the TARDIS bit when watching it, cause it seemed like a thing she would just say at that time. But I didn´t think she really meant it. It was more obvious in this episode. Haha I am missing Rory "The pretty one" as well, so I would totally get that :D :D

"Spooky!", The Doctor, "Hide" I liked it - not a 9.0-level-like but I liked it. I don't mind the slow-paced development and then the frantic pace as things come to a crisis. Alec Palmer, the professor, was mentioned as being a member of the Baker Street Irregulars. The name originates from the Sherlock Holmes stories where it was Holmes's name for the group of street boys he employed to hunt around London and discover things. In the real world, there are two possibilities for this reference. The first possibility is that it could be a reference to the famous Sherlock Holmes fan club. But the actual reference here is to a secret British "spy" organization running during World War II. BTW the actor was the main bad guy in one of the Mission Impossible films and he was in two "Fear the Walking Dead" episodes - among other roles. I really liked the single step that takes the Doctor from the house back to the forest. I also liked the re-use of the spacesuit. Also, reusing the idea of the Doctor clinging onto the side of the travelling TARDIS like Captain Jack did in "Utopia". Ok, criticisms: We discover that the "ghost" was a time-traveller who had only been there for a few minutes and was projected, or something, across all of Earth's timeline. So what was the "Help Me" on the wall stuff? How did that get written? And what was the stuff about the cold spot and the chalk circle? They were spooky when we thought there was a ghost haunting the place but I don't understand whether it was related to Hila or the "monster" or was it another aspect of the "well" portal? I agree with Ian, above. It's really nice they added the reference to an item from Classic Who to make Classic Who viewers sit up - but the incorrect pronunciation is really bad Who continuity. If I were petty, I would knock off some rating points for them doing that. "Listen, all I need to do is dive into another dimension, find the time traveller, help her escape the monster, get home before the entire dimension collapses and Bob's your uncle.", The Doctor, "Hide" Love the pictures you presented during your editorial comments!

I quite like this one especially the ghost hunting part. It's a 4/5 for me and I rank it number 77/140. I don't even mind the love story bit tacked on at the end. It's only a little bit extra to the episode and changes the idea of simply having monster of the week being evil. and it shows never to make assumptions.

As with Neil Cross' "Rings of Akhaten", I find this an interesting and atmospheric story. On my first viewing I enjoyed it, right up until the final 10 minutes or so - when I felt it became too fast, and led to a far too abrupt ending. On a rewatch, it actually made a lot more sense - I just feel that the pacing was rather botched. A Classic Who nitpick: the Doctor mentions the planet Metabilis. He gets the pronunciation wrong. It should be spoken as 'mettabeelis', and not 'mettarbuhliss'. Pedantic, I know; but you'd think if they were going to deliberately throw in a spoken Classic reference (and they do them a lot in this season), they could get the lead actor to say it properly!

Ian Smith

I really enjoy this story but I think on balance I prefer the earlier ghost story parts to the final scenes. You're right, it does slow down a bit in the middle but I kind of like that. No idea what my rating would be. I always forget how I said I rated other episodes so I never know what "base" I'm working from. Your edited in comments were interesting and I think it's probably best to reply as I would have done after seeing this episode for the first time. Without saying whether I was right or wrong about one aspect or another. The first point is that I was convinced that the Doctor absolutely meant Clara herself when he said "you are the only mystery worth solving". But I never thought that this meant it was the only reason he wanted her to travel with him. Remember he wanted Victorian Clara to be a companion too and that was before he even knew there was a mystery to solve. "I never know why, I only know who" he said. Now he has two reasons but the mystery part is kind of obsessing him. The thing that the lady empath, Emma, says about the Doctor having a "sliver of ice in his heart" struck me as being perfectly true and not said out of spite. He is mostly kind and always brave but there is something ruthless at times too. So I didn't think she was lying about Clara being a "perfectly ordinary girl" when I watched this, although it puzzled me. Clara said that she thought the Tardis didn't like her once before in the Rings of Akhaten episode. When she wanted to hide Merry, the young singer, inside the Tardis, it (she) wouldn't let her in. This episode was written by Neil Cross btw, who also wrote The Rings of Akhaten so maybe it was just his bright idea and he wanted to stick with it. I did also wonder if Clara was as much of a mystery to the Tardis as to the Doctor and that made her (the Tardis) suspicious. Or maybe she was just missing Rory, "the pretty one"!
