I have wondered why people don´t really seem to like the episode, but I guess the ending might be the problem indeed. I didn´t think too much of it to be honest, but I guess I´m pretty alone with this one :D
I love Rorys dad, unfortunately I forgot to talk about all the funny scenes with him in my review, but I loved how he constantly waited for the cubes to react, because the doctor told him, for example :D And by the way, tiny robots would have been great :D
Thanks for clarifying all the references to other episodes. I didn´t notice any of them, well except the Kate one of course :D
And no, I didn´t pick up on the fish custard, thanks for letting me know :)
And no worries, I´m gonna wait for this behind-the-scenes video :)

Wow 120/140 is pretty bad. But you don´t seem to be alone with your take on the episode. I start to wonder, wether I´ve seen a different episode than anyone else :D :D

I agree with the you about the ending as well, but to be honest it was just something that I noticed, but it didn´t have an impact on the joy I felt while watching the episode. :)
I´m glad that we met the Brigadiers daughter. It was a nice addition even for me, even if I have seen only one of his stories :)

It was traumatising. Up until today I´m constantly thinking about it, and about the possibility that it might happen again. I´m even having nightmares about it.
It´s so strange getting the feedback that this episode isn´t really liked by people. I enjoyed it so much. :)

"Eventful" Yeah I guess that´s how you could put it. :)
I do remember what you wrote :) And I think Chris really did a great job with this episode. It was really funny, and intriguing.
The actor did what ??? He just walked away? How is that even possible? Aren´t there any contracts?
Haha Ian Movie Database :D :D

"This planet, these people, are precious to me, and I will defend them to my last.", The Doctor, "The Power of Three".
Sorry to hear about your experience with the fire.
This is an odd one. When I'm watching it, I think this is a very sweet episode - and I can't understand why don't I rate it more highly. And then we get to the end when the Doctor fixes the threat by waving his magic-sonic-wand and the threat goes away and everybody lives (except for the patients who were in the spaceship?) . So, with respect to the threat in the story, I don't think this is a very good story.
But that's really not what the episode is about. It's about the slow build-up when the Doctor visits Amy and Rory at their home and experiences how they live - and at the end for Amy and Rory to decide to go off with the Doctor again on his travels with Rory's dad's blessing.
Nice to have a cameo from physicist and science popularizer, Brian Cox. It's fun to have cameos like this from people in our world in Doctor Who.
But it's more fun to have a story with Rory's dad back again. His long list of theories about the cubes was epic! BTW one of his ideas was they the cubes might contain tiny robots - we have seen something just like that in the 9th Doctor's "The End of the World" episode.
Actually, there were lots of plot similarity/callbacks in this story to make fans happy.
For example, after one of the Doctor's hearts was stopped, the Doctor asks how humans cope with only one heart - we've heard that before in the 10th Doctor's "The Shakespeare Code".
We've seen the Doctor get frustrated with how slowly time passes for us ("Vincent and the Doctor").
And - when we see the Doctor, Amy and Rory under the bed the Doctor is holding a phone charger. That was the phone charger that we had heard that Rory had left there (mentioned in the previous "A Town Called Mercy" episode).
But the huge reference - it was really, really nice to meet Kate Stewart and continue the legacy of the Brig in the Doctor Who timeline.
Did you pick up that the three were eating fish custard on the couch when they were talking about Yorkshire pudding?
I just wish the story as broadcast had the slow, sweet character bits PLUS a cleverly resolved plot. I would rate an episode like that more highly than the one I just watched.
BTW I wanted to share a nice behind-the-scenes video for this episode, but unfortunately there's a future story spoiler in it. :-(
"Who are you calling a contagion?", Amy Pond, "The Power of Three".

Again, for me an average story, 3/5. Nothing wrong with it and still good to watch. I have it ranked at 120/140 (although I might change that)

I do agree with Ian about the abrupt ending. It's not the only story where a problem gets solved too quickly right at the very end, but it does undercut the drama a bit. The Shakri actor is indeed known to be quite a prickly character. He also writes plays and I think that playing villains in other people's films and tv programmes is just a way to pay the rent.
There is a lot to like about the episode though. Especially meeting Kate Stewart for the first time. I'm not surprised that you didn't realise who her dad was at first as the revelation was more of a gift to people who had watched all the old 1970s stories. The mention of the Brigadier in The Wedding of River Song was very brief indeed.
I do agree about Rory's dad. A great character.
Not my favourite story by a long way but mostly fun and sometimes poignant so I think I would probably give it an 8.

I'm so sorry about the fire incident that you experienced, that sounds so unbelievably traumatising!
We finally meet Kate Stewart, she is such a good character! I actually originally didn't like this episode at all, but upon re-watch, I'd say its quite a good one actually. I still prefer the previous episodes but I'd give it a 7/10, not an episode I'd choose to re-watch on a whim, but its a good episode. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
One of the reasons why I love this episode is because it shows how alien the Doctor is, he's not used to human things at all and I just love when the Doctor acts like the alien he is.

Wow, you had a more eventful week than the Doctor, Amy and Rory!
To paraphrase an expression: any fire you can escape from without damage to person or property, is a good fire.
As for this story...
You know what I wrote a couple of weeks ago about Chris Chibnall (the writer) not being able to do comedy - well, I was exaggerating a little; as this episode is genuinely funny! It's one of my favourites from 11's era, as its imaginative, funny, occasionally scary, AND it reintroduces Lethbridge-Stewart into the series :D
My only reservation is the ending, which is far too abrupt...but (from all accounts) unavoidably so; as the actor who played the Shakri walked off the set and refused to come back! (A known problem with this particular actor; who is infamous for his volatility). A hasty rewrite was needed.
I think the ratings system you should refer to ought to be the PROPER IMDB - "Ian Movie Database." Accordingly, I give it a solid 8/10 :)
