I really like Rory in this. He brings some much needed "regular person" vibes to the team. I think he was right when he pointed out how much the Doctor influences his companions. He doesn't do it intentionally but all the companions constantly put their lives in danger, partially to impress him. Also Amy should really make her mind up about what she wants because it's very unfair to Rory. I also really like the first conversation between Signora Calvierri and the Doctor. I think she tries to seduce him to gain a powerful ally but she doesn't know who she is dealing with. Doctor says "I will tear down the House of Calvierri stone by stone" because she didn't remember Isabella's name. He's angry because she killed Isabella and didn't even care enough to learn her name. For that, he will not forgive her. Overall a decent episode. I enjoy the humor a lot. I'm pretty meh on the aliens but I really like the woman who plays their leader. She chews the scenery and has fun while doing it. Solid monster of the week story even if it isn't anything special.

"That's a relief - I thought I'd burst out of the wrong cake (again)", The Doctor, "The Vampires of Venice" I love small-story episodes. When Doctor Who was rumoured to be returning in the mid-2000s, I mentioned to friends that I hoped that the writers wouldn't forget to do the small-scale stories - saving the whole Universe every week would start to get tedious. I also get a kick out of a one-story monster even if the story mentions a wider threat. This one is written by the same writer who wrote "School Reunion". If you recall that story (well, of course you do!), it also had aliens that could transform into humans and the aliens proposed an alliance with the Doctor as they do here. And, both stories had the companion's boyfriend join in the adventure. The only thing missing is Anthony Stewart Head, I guess. The Doctor bursts out of a "cake" having replaced the girl who was booked to do it. The Doctor mutters "again" under his breath, so I take it as meaning that the Doctor had had a previous attempt at contacting Rory - but had got the wrong person's party. I like Guido wearing the stag-party T-shirt. The writer wanted to emphasise the danger to the companions of wanting to put themselves at risk in order to impress the Doctor. It's inevitable based on the series format I suppose - you want the companion to be active, because they represent us, and we wouldn't have a series if everyone just stayed safe in the TARDIS all the time and had afternoon tea. "I like the bit where someone says “It's bigger on the inside!” I always look forward to that.", The Doctor, "The Vampires of Venice"

I like this episode as well. The humour is a little misjudged in places, but I have no complaints about the production design! "Venice" was actually a town in Croatia. I'd give this one a 4 out 5

I like this story. It introduces Rory to the Tardis team, it's set in Venice, it's got vampires and there's some interesting argument/debate about The Doctor's moral choices and his effect on his travelling companions. It is generally regarded as a bit of a filler, probably because it isn't as epic as the Angels two-parter and maybe seemed like a bit of a let down straight afterwards. I think I'd give it a score nearer to your one that the imdb one though.

You missed the picture of the First Doctor :( It was on the outdated library card that the Doctor held out to the female vampires.
