Torchwood Season 4 - Rendition

First of all, sorry for the late reply. I have admit the concept of this season seemed strange to me, too. Because we (or at least I) have never ever heard about a story like that before. I mean people not beeing able to die anymore should be a threat? That sounds impossible if you think about itat first. But I love how the show manages to convince you pretty fast that this would be a threat indeed, more than a blessing. Yeah it really sounds strange to say, Bill does do a great job. But he really makes me hate him, so I think you´re right. Mission accomplished :D Thank you for clarifying the mass murderer thing. To me it seemed as if he had killed more than one child. That´s why I called him a mass murderer. But thank you for tellling me it was "only" one girl. Yeah Rhys really doesn´t have an easy life with Gwen. He will probably never get what he really needs. But as long as he is happy anyways....

First of all, sorry for the late reply. Now back to your comment. :) I never felt like this episode was just a filler, but I understand why people would think that. I personally liked the episode very much, and it also established the connection between our new and our old team. So I think it´s a pretty important episode to be honest. I will never get over the grief about David leaving. Mark my words :D :D Oh right, I didn´t even think about the vortex manipulator that has been taken away. Thank you for pointing this out. I have to admit I really miss Ianto. :/

"Welcome to Torchwood." - Gwen, "Torchwood - Miracle Day - Rendition" The episode really goes by quickly - with the espionage thriller vibes. I was going to say that the episode could seem a bit of a filler. Our crew get on a plane [and stuff happens when they're on the plane] and then they all get off the plane and then they escape from an ambush. And there was some medical discussions and Oswald Danes stuff. But that ignores that the writers are showing the new audience how our original Torchwood characters handle a crisis - and didn't Gwen do well taking control of the situation? - which is why it isn't a just a filler. We have the echo of the poisoning scene in "The Unicorn and the Wasp" (at least that was what came to my mind), although that scene was mostly played for laughs - and what's the worst thing that could happen to the Doctor anyway? David regenerates mid-series 4 and Nicole gets over her grief earlier about David leaving. I suppose the plot reason why Rex takes Captain Jack's vortex manipulator is so the team are forced to work out what has poisoned Jack for themselves - but it did seem to be blatantly not on Captain Jack's wrist at exactly the time when something that could analyse him medically would have been really useful. We like Esther as well. And the woman doctor (Vera Juarez). "Be careful with his coat!" - Gwen, "Torchwood - Miracle Day - Rendition" Yep, be careful with that - it came from Ianto.

I think the programme makers decided that because Children Of Earth made such an impact they should have another high concept "what would we do if this happened" series. I was quite resistant to it at first but it does draw you in and make you think about the implications of the "event" and how we could possibly react to it. I think Bill Pullman, the actor who plays the child-murderer character, Oswald Danes, does a great job although that sounds like a strange thing to say. By coincidence I saw him in a play in London in 2019. which I booked without realising who the actor was. I later found that he was the reason that a lot of people went. It also featured an actress who plays a Doctor Who companion you haven't seen yet. Which was why I went. He was very good but t took me ages to realise that I had also seen him in Torchwood. I think that's vague enough not to give anything away. Danes, btw, isn't meant to be a serial killer. Definitely a paedophile and he killed that one girl - which is quite enough to condemn him obviously - but not a mass murderer. Poor old Rhys. He will never have the quiet life he yearns for but I think he and Gwen are still made for each other.
