Torchwood Season 3 - Children of the earth: Day three

Unfortunately a very difficult 4th and 5th day awaits you... You have to pay the price for everything, I think for us too...

Oh thank you for that clarification :) That makes so much sense. :)

Yes Frobisher is his surname. And he is played by the same actor who was the father of the Roman family the Doctor rescued from the volcano in Pompeii.

You´re right, we saw those lenses before. I forgot them for some reasons. Thank you for reminding me. :) Yes I remember that they are not supposed to take Torchwood stuff home just for fun. I remember how angry I was at them in the first episode :D Ha, I knew it. I knew it was the same building :D Thank you for telling me :) By the way, I miss that quiz that we played. I hope I´ll have more time soon to fully return to Discord. :) Yes the new coat looks great on him :) That conversation about Jack beeing burried alive was so chilling. I can´t even imagine how he must have felt. Those dialogues between the Frobisher and the 456 were so interesting. I really liked watching him talking to those aliens :)

I suppose it´s not easy to comment at this point in the show. It´s as if I am in the middle of the movie, and you try to comment without spoiling the end of it. The aliens are pretty disgusting. At least their behaviour. But I can´t wait to see them nonetheless. I hope we will. You´re right about Jacks age and all the terrible things he has seen and done. I just wished, if something, like for example the aliens, does come up, he tells his people to make it easier for them. Otherwise they will make wrong decisions, like Gwen in that one episode with the missing people. Thank you for clarifying the scene with the Frobishers wife. By the way, is "Frobisher" a name, because I can´t find a German translation for that word.

"We are here." - "Children of Earth" We've seen the Torchwood contact lenses before in "Reset" when Martha wore them - although in that story the team back at the Hub could also hear what was said. I suppose we have to imagine they don't have that bit of the technology now they're not in the Hub, or - actually now I'm thinking about it - they could be just a different (and older technology) pair of contacts. It makes for a better story for it to be just the visuals this time, so they are forced to use the lip-reading software and Lois's shorthand script to understand what is happening. And we find out Gwen has taken Torchwood equipment home with her home for "fun" - I seem to recall the rest of the Torchwood team doing the same sort of thing in the very first episode! And what did we all think about them doing that? It was obviously lucky for the team that she did take them home, in this case, because that is why they have the contact lenses now. They did use the same film location for the new Torchwood warehouse base and the warehouse where Captain Jack and Ianto capture the pterodactyl. It's the same "film location", but I don't think it is meant to be the same warehouse location in the story. They reused another location nearby - we had previously seen it in "From Out of the Rain". BTW I can't use either of these for the "location quiz" because those buildings have since been demolished. On re-watching, I get slightly confused when Captain Jack doesn't recognise the names of the other people that he worked with who were killed by the government order. Of course we later find out that he never knew their names and he only works it out when the orphanage was mentioned. The replacement of Captain Jack's coat gets a big thumbs up - of course! Interesting discussion between Captain Jack and Ianto about how he felt when he was blown up. I find Frobisher's diplomatic discussions with the 456 to be absolutely riveting. I don't like the guy but he's doing his best to open a dialog with these aliens. There's a slight error in the script: Frobisher says he represents "The United Kingdom and Northern Ireland". The official name should either be just "The United Kingdom" or "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". "Army Surplus special." - Ianto Jones, "Children of Earth"

I'm not sure what to say at this point. Except that the series just becomes more tense and the stakes seem to become higher as we proceed. And that I think it was a great idea to have the alien or aliens inside a tank of gases splurging something horrible at the screen, rather than have them standing in front of us in latex masks, looking like sci fi aliens from any other show. We are disgusted by what we can see and we can only begin to imagine what we might see if they were more visible. Jack does have a lot of secrets but he is probably almost as old as the Doctor after living through many years (centuries I think) of Earth history. He must have seen and done some terrible things along with the good ones and it would be hard to explain even half of them to the people he has known for a few years or months. Even Ianto. I expect it was just a slip of the tongue but the lady whose phone Jack stole is the wife of Frobisher. Who is a "civil servant" or government official. Quite an important one but not Prime Minister. The British Prime Minister in this story is being very cynical in using Frobisher as his "fall guy". Making him do all the unpleasant things he is told to do but also making sure that he can deny anything he finds inconvenient. What a good thing that our real politicians are more honest and noble than that............
