Dr. Who Classic - Kinda Part 3

We are getting closer to the finale. How will it all end?

Enjoy :)

Dr. Who Classic - Kinda Part 3

Comments

In Classic series 4-parters,you tend to find that the third episode is the 'soggy' one; where things tend to simply bubble along in order to keep the plot-resolution away until episode four. One of the showrunners of the era explained it succinctly when he pointed out that most dramas tend to have a natural three act structure - so a four episode arc can sometimes be 'a strange beast' (his words). Nonetheless, the psychedelic visuals hold the interest imo.

Yes the theme music is awesome. It´s a pity that Youtube really doesn´t like me to play it. If I play more than 7 seconds, the video gets a strike. But I really really like it. :) I like it even more than the New Who Intro. In terms of music and the visuals. I really hope you´ll find that single again, one day :) Haha that hourglass really confused me in my review :D :D I totally forgot about that Christina Aguila song, too. Otherwise I would have remembered how to pronounce that word. :D Thank you :)

You´re wlecome. I´m happy you enjoy watching them. That´s my main goal :) Those trippy scenes are the best. How they used their ability back then to portray such scenes is just great. :) That "we" and "Not we" thing is something that I didn´t really pick up un. But now that I think about it, this is indeed interesting. I will have to rewatch the episodes and pay attention. Thank you for pointing this out. :) I´ve never seen the prisoner.

I forgot to comment before when you remarked on this version of the theme music: I really love it! Obviously a part of that is because it's the version I grew up with, but I think it genuinely has a lot going for it, all the way through to that sort of explosion sound as the closing credits white out. And I think it also all works perfectly with the graphics used for the opening and closing credits. When I was a kid we visited some sort of DW exhibition when on holiday, and I bought a 7-inch single with the music on it... I hope I still have it somewhere! As for this particular episode: (a) time is indeed going forwards when the sand is falling down; and (b) my vague impression is that the "mushroom trip" sequence is supposed to show chaos and social breakdown, both in the past and in the future, but I'm not sure if that's something the novelisation explained, or if I'm just making it up! PS: "genie" was the correct word.

Thanks, I did enjoy. These are great! Yes. What happens in this episode, like Adric continually trying to sneak away and Hindle getting madder and madder, is less important than what we are finding out about the Kinda and their history. And it all gets a bit trippy. It's wonderful when Panna keeps taking about the Idiot. At least Janet Fielding had a relaxing episode. We see Tegan just once, for a few seconds, and she is lying down with her eyes closed. I like the "We" and "Not-We" distinction that the Kinda make - "We" are the Kinda, the "Not-We" are the others. One of the Doctor Who fan sites has a template of discussions for new episodes. One of their discussion threads is titled something like "What do the Not-We think of this episode?". Mary Morris (Panna) was "Number Two" in an episode of another classic (but weird) British series "The Prisoner".
