It's kinda interesting that you say "friends are first" when you thought Rachel was hitting on Chip (which she wasn't) but you got mad when Rachel didn't want Monica to go on a date with Chip after Rachel expressed how he hurt her just because it "happened in high school". Sure it happened years ago, but it obviously had a big impact on Rachel because she remembers getting cheated on by her date years later. That was probably her first big love/crush and he broke her heart so it's easy to see why it would bother her if Monica (her best friend) chooses to go out with Chip. But Rachel supported Monica anyway when Monica explained why it was important, and Monica supported Rachel in the end in a way by celebrating with Rachel that she got to be the one to dump Chip this time. You also mentioned that Rachel had only been in one relationship when she's actually been in about as many as Ross has, not including the ones that only lasted one date or so. She nearly married Barry, she dated Paolo for quite a bit, and then Ross was the most recent long term relationship but objectively not the most serious since, again, she nearly got married to another guy whereas with Ross they only dated for a year and never moved in together or got engaged or anything like that. Ross was married for like 8 years prior to the show to Carol (his son's mom and the woman who cheated on him with her lesbian partner), he dated Julie for a bit and was serious enough with her to get a cat with her though it was still a fairly new relationship but the first semi-serious one he had had since his divorce, and then he dated Rachel. Knowing what Ross and Rachel have gone through before in past relationships really makes their current issues a bit more understandable (in my opinion). They both fear being cheated on for different reasons and it brought out the worst in both of them.

She wanted to make herself come across as successful. Like she had it all together to somebody who knew her in high school. Basically like what everyone does at high school reunions. That's all.
