Also I believe he couldn’t bring magic back as well because the curse was still in affect until Emma broke it… so magic if brought back wouldn’t have the same affect or any affect at all unless the curse was broken

As for why Gold didn't try to release magic sooner, I don't think he could without an able-bodied believer. The fact that Emma couldn't see August's leg when she wasn't a believer might mean that no one who didn't believe could also have not seen Maleficient. Or, if they could, how alarming would that be to find a dragon in a world where you thought they weren't real, if you were one of the cursed? I don't think there was anyone who could have retrieved that vial until Emma believed.

Rewatching this first season with you has shown me that season one of OUAT is truly a perfect season. So much is built and connects! I love this show (although it got crazy towards the end) and hope you at least make it through the first 3-4 seasons here! (And then maybe skip ahead to 6.10-6.11 😂)

Kitty Thornton

Eeeek so glad you have continued with this. Can't wait. Highlight if my week watching these episodes, although a week late as busy week last week.

Liz Lilliman

I just joined a week ago and have binged all of these episodes. 🙈

This is one of the reasons Regina is my favorite character. Every time someone throws "Emma is the birth mother" in Regina's face, I want to jump in the show and throw hands.

Alliana Kelley

I was sooo scared that youll stop after season one! I love your sincere reaction overall and its the main reason I joined the patreon, but this show is the only TV shows I like, so it was a super good news to be able to continue watching the show with you! :D

As an adopted person I hate the way the show portrays adoption. Regina is Henry’s mother - more than Emma is in my eyes. The way other characters act in season 1 really annoyed me. Mary Margaret and Mr Gold in particular. Regina really did/does love Henry and she would have done anything for him.

Jason

This season is so good! However, as much as I agree that Regina is evil and should be seen as such, I don't love the way the show treats her as an adoptive parent. Emma is Henry's mother but so is Regina - she raised him and for most of his life he only knew her as his mother. She can be evil and be his mother at the same time. Henry has two mums, like David/Charming has two wives. Both are valid and real, just in different ways. So I think the show could have just continued with the characters and audience understanding that Regina is evil without invalidating her as Henry's primary parent for 10 years.

I can't wait for you to start season 2 and dive into more of Emma's backstory, not to mention more of Mr. Gold and his wicked goodness. Don't forget, she still owes him a favour

Kamarra Robinson

Please continue watching this! It only gets better the next couple seasons

Steph Stephens

Seasons 2/3 are my absolute favorites

Sophie

So excited for you to get into season 2! Love that you love this show!!

Savvy H

Don't know if it has already been mentioned but Rumplestilskin couldn't get that egg back earlier because Emma didn't believe, which means she a) wouldn't even have agreed to this "mission" or b) couldn't see the dragon cause remember, you don't see magic if you don't believe in it Also i gotta say, that last shot of Regina smiling looking out of the window is so badass I absolutely cannot wait for you to start season 2! The first 3 seasons are my favorite😩🙌🏼

Patrick Rivera

Loved that reaction and i can't wait until you start S2, a lot of questions will be answered and it's really a lot of fun! However, like i've seen a bunch of people say already, i heavily disagree with the idea that Regina isn't really Henry's mother. Regina adopted Henry because she wanted a child, she had no idea who he was when she did, she loved and cared for him, she raised him for the first 10 years of his life all by herself. She has a lot of flaws, even in her love towards Henry, he's the only person she truly loves in her life in S1 so she clings to him out of love and fear of losing him and losing all she has left which leads her to make a lot of wrong decisions which i am not excusing, but it's important to realize it does come from a place a genuine love to understand Regina as a character. In addition to that, children that are adopted are just as legitimately their parent's child as if they were carried and brought into this world by them. There's some missing informations to their relationship and different aspect that will be revealed and explored later on, but yeah, imo, he IS absolutely her son too and not just Emma's and the best for HIM is for both of them to find a way to both be in his life, it's not one or the other, it should be both

Marion Date

I think Rumple wanted Emma to break the curse before he unleashed magic.

Simone Poinga-Hill

It bothers me when you say she's not his real mother because she is. She's not perfect, but her adopting Henry has nothing to do with her curse she didn't know he was the Savior's son when she adopted him, her love and want to take care of him is genuine. Regina is just as much a mother to Henry as Emma is. Both love him and want to protect him, the issue is that Regina clings to him out of fear of losing the only person she has. She saw Emma as a threat, that she would take him away just like every person she ever loved was taken from her. Also, we have to remember her mother and how she was treated. She could have been a lot worse.

logicaldreamer

The only reason this is true is because Regina had a glow up as a character while Emma, by the end, was a shadow of who she was in the earlier seasons. But I think this is the fault of bad writing and I don't consider that Emma the real Emma. The real Emma is just as good of a mother as Regina.

Liliana C.

So glad you love it and geeked out with us! Can’t wait to join you on your journey of season 2! Also, the episode ended right at 8:15pm my time before you did Audrey’s thoughts at the end. Did I sync that perfectly or what 🤣

Zach Davis

by the time you get to season 7, you'll realise Regina is the best mum to Henry. They have an excellent relationship once he gats past that she was the evil queen. He plays a really awesome role in season 3 and 7!

Monique Drewett

I agree. An adoptive mother is still a mother. Even if she has no blood ties. I also believe she legally adopted him with the help of Rumple. But, my memory can be foggy with details lol. She didn't just go somewhere and take a baby.

Jennifer Lawrence

Emma had touched the book before. But, she was so closed off from even the possibility of it being true. She just needed to open herself up to that just enough. The first episode of season 2 is great and also very emotional lol. I always need tissues. I won't go into anything else as there's way too many things that could possibly be spoiled lol. Season 1 always has my heart but season 2 is when things really get going. That said, there will still continue to be flashbacks for all of the characters and we will continue learning more about them. As well as plenty of new ones.

Jennifer Lawrence

I believe Rumple wasn't able to initially go down and get the potion back because I believe Emma is the only one who could do it. If we recall back to the shop when Emma is trying to get his help waking Henry up and Regina says that she wants to be the one to do it, Rumple then says that it has to be Emma. And she couldn't have done it before because she didn't believe yet until Henry went into the coma! Also, I love your reactions to this show and can't wait to rewatch the second season with you!!

Nekayla Higgins

I do have to mention one thing that I HEAVILY disagree with you on. You said Henry isn't Regina's son and that couldn't be further from the truth. Regina may have her very big flaws, specially towards everyone else, but while she made a few mistakes while raising Henry (keeping the truth from him and by association making Henry feel like he was crazy), she does truly love him, she raised him since he was a baby, she gave Henry a good and comfortable life, and within all her flaws she did truly try to do the best she could, with what she had to give, to make Henry happy. She ultimately failed because of her own personal trauma getting in the way, but she did try her best. And if a woman who raises a kid, takes care of him through all the ups and downs of motherhood, and loves him unconditionally isn't considered a mother, than I don't know what a mother is. It's okay to not like Regina, but facts are facts. Regina IS Henry's mother. So is Emma. Both can be true at the same time.

Liliana C.

Yet another great reaction. To answer a couple of your questions: 1) The guy at the beginning was really Graham/The Huntsman, aka the sheriff in Storybrooke at the beginning of the season; 2) Emma touching the book only brought back her memories because she was finally open to believing, that's why when she touched the book before it didn't break the curse; 3) Rumple couldn't have brought magic to Storybrooke before because the curse needed to be broken first for it to work. Also, he actually didn't know he was Rumple prior to Emma getting in Storybrooke, his memories came back when Emma introduced herself and her name was the key to unlock his memories; 4) A lot of your questions will be answered next season, so you won't have to wait long.
