PAID REQUEST: THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS (2018)

Comments

Oooh, I love me some StarKid musicals. All of them are quite wacky, but they are also all very funny and have great music. Team StarKid claimed some fame in 2009 / 2010 when they did their Harry Potter parodies (with Darren Criss as HP and including some of his music) and I was lucky enough to see them live when they came to Germany in 2012 and 2013. Over the years I was also able to back them a few times for different projects, which are always quite fun. 3 of the actors from this musical have been part from the beginning (Joey Richter - your fave male character, Lauren Lopez - coffee girl (those two are a real life couple and got married this year and are currently on tour with Darren Criss) and Jaime Lyn Beatty - your fave female character) and it might be interesting for you to see their progression over the years. If and when you react to more of their full shows I will be happily singing along.😊

I heard about that as well, so I planned on watching that as soon as it came out on Dead Meat's channel! I also heard that Black Friday could also be in the works!

Larka

timestamp: 3:55 actually shows the two that got married in the same frame :D

Boone_girl

GAAAHH! Two of the main/reoccurring performers in StarKid just got married <3 it made my day seeing their Instagram photos knowing how that they met and fell in love while performing all these musicals with each other! <3

Boone_girl

God I love this show! I make it a point to watch it every year around this time.

I'm so happy seeing this musical. And in a way it's serendipity because I believe this Friday, a channel that counts the kills in horror movies is doing an episode on this musical. It's called Dead Meat by the way if anyone wants to watch it once it's uploaded. This musical when I first watched it was interesting. I'd been a Starkid fan for probably 3-4 years at that point and it was the first one I watched on release day. I love this musical, which lead me to watch the premiere of the sequel show Black Friday, and then for Nerdy Prudes I actually backed it on Kickstarter because now I have my own money. When it comes out of Youtube look for my name in the credits. It's either Turnip Crazy or Savannah Turpin I forget which. I just hope people request more Starkid because I love people discovering how great they are.

Turnip Crazy

Loved seeing you react to this musical, such a hilarious show and a wonderful team. Been a fan of Starkid since 2009 and I love seeing new people watch for the first time

Kaitlyn L

are you going to continue high school musical the musical the series s4?

Agam

This is such an amazingly hilarious musical!! When the professor asked Alexa to start the self destruction, my echo caught it and started to count down 😂 I had to rewind to see if it was just a fluke but it caught it again 🤣

Sylvana Zamani

The tone of Black Friday is really unique I think, just that bit darker, I really love it too!

Laura

Oh absolutely, they’re all amazing, and some of them have grown so much since their first shows, which is so cool to watch

Laura

Yah, that has some great songs and storyline as well! I feel like my favorite at the moment is Black Friday, and Nerdy Prudes Must Die is a very close second. There is just something about Black Friday that really made me like it.

Larka

Yes! Her song in Nerdy Prudes Must Die is really good! Lauren is very talented! But I can also say the same for the rest of the Starkid performers.

Larka

For sure, it was definitely my favourite before the Hatchetfield stuff, but if we’re going even further back then Starship has a special place in my heart, I think she’d enjoy that one too!

Laura

Yah, for sure! I feel like Twisted really is one of their better older shows. I think she would really like the vibe of the musical. 😁

Larka

Yeah I hope so too! I would love to see more people giving them a chance! I remember they went viral at my school in like 2010 so that’s when I found them, but oh my gosh I love that you found them through Audrey, that’s so cool! She did a reaction to Twisted too, I feel like she’d love that show - maybe after the Hatchetfield ones :)

Laura

Omg this is unexpected and soooo exciting, such a nice thing to come home from work to!!!

Tiffany Tews

I am really hoping that this reaction will open up other unfamiliar people to Starkid just like I was at one point until I watched Audrey’s reaction to Roasted/Poisoned Cup of Coffee. That was when I watched this musical as a whole for the first time and truly became attached to Starkid.

Larka

OMG I am so happy that you enjoyed Starkid!!!! I have been of fan of them since the beginning with A Harry Potter Musical. Darren Criss (Blaine Anderson) from GLEE is on of the original founding members

Abigail Reifinger

Also, we didn’t get to hear a lot of Lauren (Emma)‘s voice in this show, but holy cow can she sing! Her solo in Nerdy Prudes Must Die is one of my favourites! She, Joey (Ted/homeless guy) and Darren Criss recently performed in Australia and when I heard her sing live I was so blown away!

Laura

Thank you so much for requesting this show oh my gosh, it made my day to come home and find this reaction! Starkid really means the world to me too, so it’s so lovely to see other people giving them the love they deserve!

Laura

Oh my gosh, I’m so glad to see you doing a full Starkid show! This is one of my favourites - I actually showed it to my sister (who is very much a Paul) and she loved it! Just a few thoughts: 1) This show is quite late in their career so it’s kind of funny to see you reacting to this not knowing the team, and seeing you be excited about their vocals for the first time, because they really are so talented I just kinda see it as a given after all this time 2) This is the first of 3 musicals (Black Friday and Nerdy Prudes Must Die - which is out this month on YouTube - are the other two - they’re amazing!) - I would love to see you do all three! 3) Joey (who plays sleazy Ted) is one of my favourite Starkid members, every character he does is amazing! 4) When Jaime performed Join Us and Die at a concert (Starkid Homecoming) a little while after this, they ended up putting the song up higher at the last minute, and she did incredibly! 5) Mariah, who plays the coffee girl/daughter, has an amazing voice, she used to be in Mean Girls on Broadway, and she’s played funnier characters in other shows, but dude her voice is amazing! 6) To this day I can’t get over the fact that these guys started as a bunch of college friends and now put together totally original shows like this (this is their 11th show), I’m so glad you found them because they really do mean the world to me and they’re so dang talented, I can’t want to see you watching more!

Laura

I definitely second that! I have not experienced any negativity in the fandom as a whole. Everyone has been very supportive. I hate that you missed the live performance, but I am glad you ended up finding them in general. It was actually Audrey’s reaction to Cup of Roasted Coffee that got me into starting to watch the musical then proceeding to watch a ton of their musicals afterwards.

Larka

I’m always so glad to find new and old fans, this group deserves everything good in the world! I actually found out about them like 4 months after they’d had a concert 20 minutes from my house and then they never came back to Canada so I just missed seeing them live 🙃 But I’ve always found most of the starkid fandom to be so positive and welcoming and I think a lot of that is because of the group themselves and I will always be so grateful to have found them

Alexandra

It’s so good to see that there are still a lot of fans out there that have been with them through the beginning! I kinda wish I started watching them earlier, but I am mostly just really happy I found them in the first place.

Larka

That’s awesome! Starkid is my go to whenever my mental health declines because the shows are so fun but the cast is also just so fun and kind and such great friends. I’m so glad you’ve found them and they’ve been such a positive influence!

Alexandra

I recently got into Starkid within the past year, but it has really been a positive influence on my life and got me back into singing again. I am hopeful that it will be more well known as it is spread around and shared. They are very talented performers that definitely need more recognition!

Larka

I am so excited for you to keep reacting to them! Thank you for posting the reaction! Starkid is really special to me. They have helped me through a lot over the past year. I am excited for you to finish the Hatchetfield trilogy! You will have so much fun with it!

Larka

Omg I’m so excited for a Starkid reaction! I think the couple starkid reactions you did are what introduced me to your channel! There aren’t a lot of starkid reactors or anything so we’re STARVED for content! I’ve been watching Starkid since like 2010 and I’m still just as obsessed with them as I was then. Thank you Larka! Also I’m sure you’re going to get these comments if you don’t already know but: 1. This was created by Jeff Blim (Sam) and the Lang brothers, who are behind the scenes of every starkid show and it’s the first of a (currently) trilogy of interconnected musicals and a bunch of webisodes 2. Joey (Ted) and Lauren (Emma) just got married in real life! 3. Mariah (Bill’s daughter Alice) played Regina in Mean Girls on Broadway for a bit! If you ever watch any other starkid shows, it’s always fun to see how much they’ve grown and matured since they started this for fun in college in 2009 (some of their older stuff is definitely a little dated and hasn’t aged well but they’ve definitely learned and tried to grow with the times) Anyways that’s my little rant, I just love Starkid lol

Alexandra

This is awesome! The first video I watched of yours was a Starkid reaction. This Musical is just wonderfully sarcastic 💚 ☕️
