Movement
Added 2025-07-02 19:54:17 +0000 UTCHello everyone! So, I'm just finishing up the last ten of the Dranaria eating events, which means a dev update will be out soon, probably by the end of the day if all goes well. Anyways, todays poll is on the topic of movement.
So, what is movement as I'm using this in a vague sense. Well, by movement I mean the how the player moves from room to room. In the new version of the game some rooms will only be accessible through other rooms just to make the game a little more realistic and to cut down on the sheer amount of buttons there were in the first game. The question I'm asking you guys is how detailed should this movement be? While I'm still a few months away from working on this system knowing what level of detail and complexity will be needed will help me start figuring out a system. So, what are the options I'm willing to implement? I'm going to list these from most basic to most complicated.
Option 1: Generic movement, this will ignore both the race and body shape of the player and opt for only size. The fastest method with it only taking me probably a few days to make and implement the system. However, adding any sort of further complexity onto a system like this will be difficult.
Option 2: Generic movement with body shape, this system will be a slightly altered system of the last one with it including a body shape difference as well. So you'll get more detailed descriptions that focus more as certain aspects of the players body shape such as how they jiggle, wobble or bonce when going up stairs or moving down hallways. This would probably take at least a week or two.
Option 3: Full generic, this system will have to be built differently from the other two systems mentioned as it will include race as well. For example the dragon race will fly or hover through hallways, or at least it will for smaller sizes and change as you grow too fat to fly. The elf on the other hand there will be a larger focus on humiliation. This would probably take me the better part of a month or more.
Now, something I should mention about all of these is that they will be used over and over again throughout the game. So any time you go up or down stairs it will reuse the same one, any time you go down a hallway the same. Of course some things will be changed, namely the destination in the description. Now, lets talk about more dynamic descriptions.
Option 4: Dynamic movement basic, again, this will only focus on player size but it will make every description for going anywhere unique. So, there will be a larger focus on the world around the player. Perhaps some very basic guard interactions will be mix in to spice things up but overall it will be a basic system. This will probably take me two to three days per area, maybe more or less depending on the area with stairs probably taking the longest. (As each new area is made the descriptions will be made with it.)
Option 5: Dynamic movement with body types, again I'm sure you guys can infer what this one will do. But, just in case I'll explain it anyways. It will build off the last system but it will add body types into the mix. This will take a significant amount of time to add, easily expanding time to a week or two per area. (As each new area is made the descriptions will be made with it.)
Option 6. Full dynamic movement. This will add races into the mix while building off of option 5. This will easily be the most complicated system to add with each area taking at least two or three weeks. (As each new area is made the descriptions will be made with it.)
So, now that I have listed all of the options I'm just going to make a quick little list of the main things and drawbacks of each option.
Option 1: Just describes weight and descriptions will be reused all through the game. A few days to make the system.
Option 2: Just describes weight, body shape and descriptions will be reused all though the game. A week or two to make the system.
Option 3: Describes race, weight and body shape, descriptions will be reused all through the game. About a month to make the system.
Option 4: Just describes weight but a different description will be made for each area, room and stairway. Each area will take a few days to make and to finish the whole system, depending on how many areas the finished game has, it could take up to a month.
Option 5: Describes weight and body shape, a different description will be made for each area, room and stairway. Each area will take a week or a so to make and to finished the whole system, depending on how many areas the finished game has, it could take two to three months.
Option 6: Describes weight, race and body shape, a different description will be made for each area, room and stairway. Each area will take a few weeks or so to make and to finish the whole system, depending on how many areas the finished game has, it could take six to nine months.
Comments
It will be a pain to do I imagine but full dynamic movement would be worth the effort. Adds a lot to each race and variance with weight levels.
