Lol thanks!

I believe there’s an interview somewhere that explains that Shonda, the show creator, saw Sara Ramirez on Broadway in Spamalot (which she won a Tony for), and offered her the part of Callie on Greys.

Erin White

Wow great job Heidi you literally covered everything I wanted to mention so now all I have to do is praise you for your perfect breakdown. Literally didn’t miss a point to be made and didn’t over explain anything. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Yea they should do one a season at least!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I just realized that you reacted to this and upgraded my membership JUST to watch it. Grey's is my favourite. I saw Chyler Leigh sing live with her husband back in 2018 (she's a sunshine, I met her that night and WOW what a nice human) but anyway, she sounds REALLY good live. I knew she could sing from this, but it's different when it's live, y'know? I was so impressed. And honestly, Sara is a force to be reckoned with. They are SO talented, and I'm glad they got to shine in this episode. I wish Grey's and the spinoffs had more than just this one musical episode, because if it did I'd just be throwing money for more Grey's reacts xD

Megan Christina

She seriously was soo good!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Private Practice is a spin-off that was made revolving around Dr. Addison Montgomery (the one they bring in from the helicopter) and a different group of people in L.A. Both of the spinoffs are great!😊

Madeline Jensen

I love this episode! The songs were fantastic and there was really only one weak song (vocally). The rest were great! And you’re right - I would buy Sara Ramirez’s album. She’s actually been on Broadway so I’m not surprised they basically made a musical episode just to show off her voice.

Yes! https://youtu.be/ZJqAYUAJbTk

Heida

omg! Thats tiny! Im so glad youre still here!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

OMG I love Spamalot! OK now Im gonna have to look up her performance. DId she play the Lady Of The Lake?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

sara was amazing! she stole the whole episodes

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Ive never even heard of those two shows!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

omg they should totally do more musical episodes

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Such a great episode. I don't know why I'm so surprised that so many of these actors can sing because that seems to be the trend more and more. It opens up so many more possibilities for these actors because people want more of the authenticity of actors being hired for more than just their acting skills, especially Disney movies and musicals. Sara Ramirez is such an amazing talent and rightfully deserved to have this episode center around her. Kevin McKidd, Chandra Wilson, and Chyler Leigh more than held their own and shined in what they were given. I really admire those who stepped up and sang their parts as well especially going alongside these accomplished singers. I really wish that Shonda will do more episodes like this, especially with the cast on the show now with my guy Harry Shum Jr being on there along with Chris Carmack who was on Nashville and Chandra and Kevin are still there.

You really would love Grey’s as well as the spin offs Private Practice and the currently running Station 19. They have crossover episodes frequently, too. Anything Shonda Rhimes touches is gold I actually prioritize my work schedule so that I am off in time to watch Station 19 and Grey’s live on Thursdays any they are the only shows I watch live at all. I really love how engaging the 19 cast is during the episodes on twitter.

I'm so glad you watched this episode!!!! I was hoping for a reaction/watch party with this episode for so long!!!! It's one of my favorite episodes of this show!!!! Sara does perform The Story live and some of the cast performed some of these songs at a live event so you can see them sing it live and it sounds just as amazing!!!! Here is a link to Sara singing The Story live if you want to watch it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKZE2elq9Hs and then here is a live performance of Running on Sunshine from that same event with more of the cast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsy8Fs894QQ in this video it has some of the series regulars who didn't sing in the episode singing. I definitely recommend checking it out if you have time and want to.

Also, Chandra Wilson was in the original Broadway cast of the Tony nominated musical "Caroline, or Change". And Kevin McKidd actually does sing, he's just very modest. He was in a rock band as a teenager and also released The Speyside Sessions in 2012, a charity album with a collection of traditional Scottish folk songs recorded live with friends and fellow musicians.

Sara Ramirez (Callie/the pregnant woman in the accident) has been on Broadway and won a Tony Award for "Spamalot". They released an EP in 2011, around when this episode aired, which contains 3 self-written songs and The Story (the last song). They are non-binary and since 2021 go by they/them. Chandra Wilson (Bailey/the one singing the "Let's waste time chasing cars" line) was in the original Broadway cast of the Tony nominated musical "Caroline, or Change". Chyler Leigh (Lexie/the girl with the country twang) makes music with her husband Nathan West under the name "WestLeigh". Fun fact: She played Supergirl's sister in the CW show by the same name; Supergirl was played by Melissa Benoist (Marley in Glee). Kevin McKidd (Owen/the guy with the country twang also known as 'Calm down!' dude) was in a rock band as a teenager and also released The Speyside Sessions in 2012, a charity album with a collection of traditional Scottish folk songs recorded live with friends and fellow musicians. Apparently, Shonda Rhimes, the show's creator, had wanted to do a musical episode from the beginning. But having Sara and a few of the other cast members who could actually sing made her do it at that point, so you're kinda right that it's why the episode revolved around her. Also, Calliope (which is the character's full name), in music, is a steam-whistle organ with a loud, shrill sound audible miles away; it is used to attract attention for circuses and fairs. All of the songs in the episode have been on the show before, most of them made famous by the show. The first song, Chasing Cars (which is the one you reacted to), and the second to last, How To Save a Life, have been more than once and are kind of the unofficial theme songs of the show. In the beginning, Callie also sings a bit of the actual theme song Cosy in the Rocket (they dropped the intro after S1 and just used the title card). Fans and critics have been shitting on this episode since it aired and a lot of people hate it, but other than just hating musicals in general I don't know why. It's one of the most intense episodes ever and that is saying A LOT when it comes to Grey's Anatomy. Most of the performances are good because many of them are actually good. If only for discovering the vocal talent of the cast, Sara in particular. The last song, The Story, is my absolute favourite! It's originally by Brandi Carlile WHO I LOVE but I honestly prefer Sara's version. It's just so emotional, especially in context with the scene. She can also sing the hell out of that song live. https://youtu.be/QKZE2elq9Hs (There was actually a benefit concert where the cast sang a few of the songs live if you wanna react to that) Just to give you some context: Callie and Arizona (from the accident) were together and broke up. Callie, who is bisexual, slept with Mark and got pregnant. Calzona got back together and the 3 of them were gonna co-parent, but because they aren't married Arizona legally doesn't have any rights to the baby. Meredith (who breaks down in the elevator) is married to Derek, she had a miscarriage when there was a shooter in the hospital who actually shot Derek and Cristina (Meredith's best friend) had to operate on him with the shooter pointing a gun at her. Meredith and Derek did indeed adopt a child and then had two biological children after that. Addison is the neonatal surgeon that they bring in, she was married to Derek and cheated with Mark who was his best friend. Mark and Lexie (the girl with the country twang and Meredith's sister) were together but now she's with Jackson (dude with beautiful eyes) even though she still loves Mark. Cristina is married to Owen (the guy with the country twang also known as 'Calm down!' dude). Cristina's mentor Teddy is in love with Owen but she is married to Henry (the patient she is taking care of). She married him so he could use her health insurance but of course she eventually falls in love with him. I know it's very confusing! But just like with Glee, all of the main characters have pretty much dated and/or slept with each other. I would so be down to watching the show with you BUT it's already in its 19th season and has been renewed for the 20th. So it's a lot! I may have a love/hate relationship with it now but back then it was still SO good. So many characters I miss. Harry Shum Jr. aka Mike in Glee is one of the new interns this season, so Mike's dad should be proud! Matthew Morrison also appeared in a few episodes in S13/14 and let's just say his character makes Mr.Schue (and even Sue) look like an angel.

Sara Ramirez (Callie, the woman who was in the accident) is a singer - was in Spamalot in 2005 and won a Tony. Chyler Leigh (the one who starts singing Breathe (2 AM)) started to release music in 2015 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chyler_Leigh Kevin McKidd does not sing (he doesn't consider himself a good singer). The person you have seen in a bunch of things is Sandra Oh - she was in Killing Eve and has been in a bunch of other things - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandra_Oh With Grey's Anatomy, when in doubt, assume everyone is sleeping together. It looks like the guy who you were wondering if he was part of the cast is Scott Foley, and apparently he was recurring on the show - he is not a singer, just an actor. Also, that baby does *not* look like it came out at 23 weeks - I came out at 25 weeks and I looked smaller than that (1 lb 8 oz, dropped to 1 lb 1 oz very shortly after birth)
