I always love watching this performance because they did a great job with showing the old Rachel and the new Rachel and like you said you can hear a little difference in their sound. Every time I sing this song I always like to sing that end that is just the guitar like Lea Michele does in the video. I do that with a lot of songs!!!! And I love this song!!!!

So I've always sung along with that part too LOL I always loved the contrast of how much Rachel changed in new york as opposed to how she used to dress and act. I like that she used different vocal tones for them where 'old' Rachel was more like Natalie umbruglia and sweet and soulful, whereas the new Rachel was big and in your face and dramatic.

I remember thinking the first time I saw this on the show that they had finally run out of duet partners for Rachel so she just stepped in and did it for herself, lol. Pretty impressive that she sang the part that was instrumentation in the original. I feel like it was appropriate to use this song when they did as Rachel was at place where she is trying to decide how much of her past to hold on to and how she can step into her new life. A dilemma that we all have to face as we're growing up and experiencing more
