I just think people don't realize that it's not a remake of the old one and the two can be good separately. It seems the US audience is more critical of it being a musical than the UK audience, who seem to critique more on how true it was to the stage show than whether or not it's a musical. The old 90s version was an americanized version, which is fine. This one stays true to its British roots. I think both can be enjoyable independently.
