Really Ryan Murphy??!

I just watched the first episode of American Horror Story with Danny for his channel and I must say that I was shocked! 😳 How is THIS written by Ryan Murphy. To go from Glee to AHS it’s hard for me to imagine it’s the same writer. Did you guys notice any similarities?? I’d love to be on the lookout for them whenever I guest spot on a episode with him.

That's definitely because he leaves each show after like 3 seasons, also usually why the earliest seasons are the strongest

Try watching Niptuck. Now that’s true Ryan Murphy before he had his hand in Glee. If you watched through to the last season then you’ll see a pattern for how his shows turn out. He always starts out strong but never ends well.

Ryan Murphy also said on Jenna and Kevin's new podcast " so That's what you really missed " regarding Glee that he wanted to do something uplifting after doing so much dark stuff

Everything he does seems to be campy and dark. Glee even has its moments

LOVE American horror story, and also Ratched 👌🏽👌🏽. Glee is for sure the standout in his projects lol, but I think some of the elements of camp humor, strong/powerful female characters and queerness carry through many of his projects for sure

Yeah but that was from the original writer (Ian I think, of the play I think or book not sure which). What we ended up getting was Ryan’s reformed idea. Which thank goodness 😅

Glee is definitely the lightest shows he has made. But there are some crossovers. Like when Darren Criss made an appearance in s5 Hotel along with the guy who played Dustin Goolsby, aka the s2 Vocal Adrenaline director. Also one episode in the Asylum season was a musical. But when you have to remember that glee is very satire so it’s not hard to imagine that Ryan has done both.

Adding to what others have said, "Glee" is the outlier as far as genre for Ryan Murphy. He did a few series for FX that were super dark.
The two I saw were 1. Versace and 2. Ratchet (about Nurse Ratchet from Cuckoo's Nest but more like her story before that story so you know it's anything but a light- hearted series).

Ryan has said that after Nip/tuck he wanted to do something lighter, which is how Glee came about. The problem with Ryan is that after a few seasons, he leaves his projects to start new ones. The quality of Glee went downhill around the time he started on AHS.

Like others have mentioned Glee is one of Ryan's shows that actually sticks out because it for the most part is light hearted in comparison to so much of his other works. And Ryan had said on Kevin and Jenna's new podcast about Glee that Glee was actually supposed to be a lot darker and Will Schuester was meant to be a lot creepier.
The majority of Ryan's shows are darker. There are some Glee cast members that have appeared in different Ryan Murphy shows. Most notably Darren Criss appeared in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Darren ended up winning many notable awards for his performance in his season of American Crime Story which included winning a Golden Globe, an Emmy Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

I love AHS!! Season 3 is my absolute favorite and i was honestly so shocked to find out that Ryan Murphy made it😂
But tbh Ryan's problem is, that he starts a show and after a few seasons he goes into other projects and you can tell the quality of the other one sinks. pretty sure he still made Glee while starting AHS, thats why the later seasons of glee aren't as good. Same with AHS, it kinda gets downhill from season 4 on cause he was onto another project. this sadly always happens
(I know this was a random "fact" but i just had to get it out there 😂)

I've never watched AHS I don't know if I wanna but I've heard there's a few good seasons
I watched Scream Queens which is a comedy horror that Ryan also did& that was good. You'll notice Ryan likes to reuse the same stars in his tv shows.

I've watched a few seasons of that and don't remember any similarities. Scream Queens is another one of his series (that sadly only got a couple of seasons) but it has a lot of the sort of dark humor that Glee tended to have. The "mean girl" characters remind me a lot of the various Cheerios in Glee, too lol. Lea Michele is a character in that show as well. I can't remember if anyone else from Glee appears. It's been a few years now since I watched it.

It was very strange that he went from Nip/Tuck to Glee actually and apparently Glee was supposed to be a lot darker and Will Schuester a lot creepier than what we got (which is definitely saying something)
