Alot of the time I feel like we are not watching the same show, Rachel has plenty of moments where she is remorseful for the bad things she does, and even many times where she acts selflessly, unlike most of the other characters who are as bad as, if not worse, than her who hardly if ever feel bad or try to apologize. My high school life sucked too, I have always had severe social anxiety, so I was often just alone, or if I was in a group I could just never speak and felt awkward and self-conscious and alone. Luckily I graduated my junior year, so the misery ended a year early.

2022-12-05 06:42:25 +0000 UTCHere in Germany we don’t have proms like this and with that (luckily) no prom king & queen! But at the end of high school we celebrate our graduation with a big party & ball. Since it’s called “Abitur”, the ball is called “Abiball” and our theme in 2018 was “Abileave I can fly” and we had some clouds & wings as decoration, but nothing spectacular. I loved this day and I also loved most of my high school time, because I was already friends with 4 guys from my elementary school and we found lots of new friends and became an incredible good friend group. Most of us are nerds & very socially awkward and even mentally ill, we weren’t really popular, but we all had this in common. 😅 We always had lunch together and spend all the time at breaks and at the bus station together. Lots of people didn’t like us, because we were always laughing really loud. We had SO much fun. 💜 We still all are really close, keep in touch and meet up every once in a while to catch up. I’m really glad high school has given me the best of friends that I will keep having forever. 💜

As for prom, my junior prom my date was a guy who'd asked me out like a month before and we "dated" until prom - where he then ditched me to hand out with his friends. My senior prom I just went stag and hung out with my friends which was better, but honestly? I would've just as happily hung out with my friends at home and played video games or watched movies. We over hype prom, I think.

2022-12-04 03:19:57 +0000 UTCHere in Britain we do have prom, but just one prom for only the graduating class. And it's more just like a disco than anything else. People don't pair up, there's no king or queen and it's just not a big deal. I didn't go to mine due to my anxiety and the fact that everyone hated me, but I never felt like I missed much. This is why I find prom themed TV episodes and prom stories from Americans so interesting. Because we really have nothing like that here. 😂 Also I have such mixed feelings about Rachel winning prom queen in this episode. Firstly she did look UNBELIEVABLE. And I love that she was so happy. But Rachel didn't really win so all the stuff with Finn saying how far she's come and how everyone in the school loves her now just makes me feel sad for her. Because in reality she got no votes at all. And also in season 5 Santana is awful to Rachel and tells Rachel that her and Quinn stuffed the ballot boxes as a way to bring down Rachel's confidence, it was such an awful moment. And that's soured me on this episode too a bit. 🙈

Though out the entire time in high school, you gather points for participating in school events and being involved. So an event like setting up for homecoming would get you points or painting banners would count as well. When prom rolls around, the top 8 boys and girls with the most points would be on prom court and that’s who was voted on. So it took out the popularity contest and instead rewarded the students who actually were involved which I think is the best method

It’s the Brittanyest prom theme ever and it would have been way more fun than the stuffy lame ass “Secret Garden” theme we had for senior prom. As do have to say, though that our homecoming theme my senior year was awesome (the seniors pick the homecoming themes). We did Disney movies and decorated each class hallway and float with different movies and the gym was Aladdin. We had an absolute blast because it was so chill.

2022-12-04 00:04:04 +0000 UTCHighschool was hell for me too. So, I have a hard time relating to the people who look back on it fondly and stayed in contact with friends they met over those years. I'm in my 30s and I still have nightmares about not being able to find my classes, having nobody to sit with etc. That said. The bullying and immaturity sadly doesn't leave entirely after highschool. I've met plenty of adults that seem to have never left that mentality behind.

Finn was quarterback of the football team, Rick the Stick was captain of the ice hockey team so holding to tradition, it was an all jocks & cheerleaders nominated. ;)

2022-12-03 18:28:54 +0000 UTCI love the background scenes in this episode starting with Naya being Naya in the classroom scene when Brittany announces the prom theme. The ass slap was totally just for Kevin and her tickling Amber just showcased their closeness off set. The cast always said that she made the long days more bearable by being open and funny and so it's nice to see that. I also loved her background faces when they showed Blaine without hair gel at prom. Naya always cracks me up. No, Audrey, there isn't a time when Naya doesn't look or doesn't sound stunning on this show. I loved Quinn and Santana singing Take My Breath Away. Quite appropriate that it be two of the most gorgeous and breathtaking women on the show sing that song. Darren said he hated having to sit for 2 hours every day while they tamed his crazy (that wasn't a wig) hair with hair gel. I think it's good that Rachel finally started snapping out of her shock and funk. I actually totally get where Santana was coming from in criticizing the anti-prom. She ultimately just wanted to be around her people and that includes the glee club. I thought it was a nice show of growth for her to not be too upset about losing prom queen and nice to see her value her relationships more.

I had the added “fun” of being a nominee for Prom King, because my school had a horrible tradition of letting the teachers pick one nominee so it wouldn’t be all popular kids so an unpopular kid gets to stand up there feeling super awkward get glared at by everyone who wasn’t nominated and get the least amount of votes.

It wasn’t jocks at the top and everyone else at the bottom. We didn’t even have your ‘stereotypical’ cliques for the most part. I wouldn’t say I loved high school by any stretch, but I was sad to end that period of my life.
