You might want to add it to my song requests coming up. Maybe pick one with subtitles translated to english

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Songs with a message really do hit different. I think that’s why my favorite group, BTS have such a loyal following. They built their career on lyrics that pertained to social issues, social commentary, the South Korean education system, following your dreams, and self-love. They even had an album series based on the psychological theories of Carl Jung. You pair that with their amazing choreography, well-produced music videos, global fame, and philanthropy.. I’d say (*in my opinion*) that they’re the closest we have to MJ nowadays. The only downside is that most people don’t tend to look into their lyrics since they’re in a different language or look down on boy bands in general so they write them off. I know you’ve reacted to some live performances of them in the past but if you ever do a deeper dive, especially into their lyrics, I’d love to suggest some tracks (and apologize for the long tangent! 😅)

Glee probably inspired "Pitch Perfect" movies that came after Glee first aired in 2009 and Pitch Perfect was released in Sept 2012 . In fact this episode of Glee aired in Jan 2012 . So Pitch Perfect Riff offs are like Glee 😊

heather Phillips

Hi!! Where is everyone 3x13? Heart. I can’t find it 😭

Audrey Lee Strohm

This is one of my favorite episodes. But, it is still hard to watch some Fin or Santana scenes.

Wren Martin

I've seen this show fifty times through and dammit every time I see Burt I cry like a baby. He is the perfect father, even when he messes up, he fixes it because he isn't perfect and he doesn't need to be

Ellie

i agree he should have reported it for sure!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

This is why I don't love Kurt and Rachel's friendship going forward. There's a lot of him helping her through her problems at the expense of his achievements. Also think Kurt's decision not to report Sebastian was totally messed up and bad writing, like dude, go to the police right now! Regionals does not equal your boyfriend almost losing his sight!

Romy

I’m turning 27 in 2 weeks and I 100% agree with you about songs with meaning to them. I really don’t like the pop music nowadays. It doesn’t have meaning. I love older songs. Burt Bacharach was an incredible song writer for example.

Georgia Beauchemin

Would love to see you watch the masked singer to see if you recognize any voices.🤭

aLYa24

Random question, your lips look really full I'm this video. Did you happen get fillers by chance?? 😬

Kenyatta (KD) Smith

Gosh darn it no matter how hard I try not to cry during the scene between Burt and Kurt (cuz I hate crying) I always do. Dad of the year award to Burt …GO BURT

some one

Yes the music was the best in this episode

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

It was fantastic

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

oh no!!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Yea I expected Santana to go fully CRAZY on him. Surprised she held back so much. Thats crazy about the liquid assult charges! I never knew! I do think they should have called him out on it because he could do it again. Yea I would have loved to hear Santana fully sing out in Smooth Criminal but maybe they didn't want her to overpower him hahah!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

it was all about the music

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Im so tempted but I leave it up to you guys to vote. I will for sure add it in for the next voting options

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I remember how those chellos went viral!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

The wrath of Santana haha

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

maybe a bigger budget?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

In my opinion the second half of season three has the best music of the entire series. I don't know if it's something about the production, this specific cast, or if they just took this long to find their groove, but even now I find myself going back and listening to a lot of these songs.

Kristina

Early seasons I was not in love with Santana but as her character developed and she became the Glee body guard I really wanted her as my friend. I loved her friendship with Rachel S5 and S6. In her own way I think she was definitely trying to protect her, and push her to be better.

LisaMarie_82

Anyone who tries to bully the members of the Glee club is going to run smack dab into Santana Lopez. It’s like only she, and possibly Quinn, is allowed to be mean to them. While the others were taking care of Blaine, Santana decided to go to Dalton and walk right into the Warbler den.

Rasha

Smooth criminal is one of my favorite songs from this episode. I find it enormous how you can get so much out of 2 cellos and 2 voices. 🤘🏻

Joe

So true! I rewatch those episodes all the time!

Sabrina Louis

Storyline wise it wasn't the strongest episode but the songs more than make up for it. Human Nature is definitely in my top 10 favorite Glee songs. I would have never thought to put Mercedes and Sam together for a duet but their voices blend really well together. I would love for you to react and do a breakdown of the song.

Veronica_R_T

he was actually skinner in s4 because he was filming a movie called mccanick (which is actually really good) and he needed to lose weight for that role

fry

Same. I'm 40 in a few weeks. And have been impatiently waiting on the MJ Ep for all of S3. I loved Darren's voice in the ep because as a non singer my ears tell me it was one of the first times they didnt layer a bunch crap and weird tuning on top of his vocals. And I'm pretty sure we dont get it again until S5 when he sang Phil Collins. Always bugged me how the show produced his voice so layered cause it's beautiful and strong on it's own.

LisaMarie_82

Omg. I love this ep. Me and my mom waited for weeks for the Black or White video premiered. The first airing was on Fox right after an episode of the Simpsons and was like 10 minutes long. I believe it was around Thanksgiving 1991. Me and mama sat on the living room floor waiting and when it was over she she pulled out the VHS tape put it in the rewinder (that was a real thing for the young folks here) put it back in and we watched it all over again. Leah and Cory were I believe basically engaged when this ep was recorded. You'll start to see the drugs taking over when we get to S4 because he is like 60 lbs thinner. Their duet here always makes me cry because she lost him in real life. Fun fact for the younger crowd the song Ben that they sang to Blain, was from a movie young Michael did the theme song, about Rats. Ben was a rat

LisaMarie_82

yessss Sam’s voice is so good.

Jacob

I liked a couple of songs like Never can say goodbye, Smith Criminal... but it was an extremely boring episode. I couldn't care less about Finches and Blaine and Sebastian isn't convincing as a villain.

Capri Zonica

I think he had a short run on Broadway and needed to be out for two episodes worth of filming time for it.

Annie Willow

I really love the creative and varied ways that they did tribute episodes. Every song was perfection. I could listened to “Smooth Criminal” a million time and will always get chills when Naya comes in with “I don’t know!!!!” Bah! Goose bumps, every time. And I think this may be the only time that Dianna got the only solo and it was outstanding. Seeing Santana’s growth is beautiful. When Quinn made her and Brittany join the Glee Club with her two years ago, all she did was insult everyone in the Glee Club and try to bring it down for Sue and now she is the fiercest protector of everyone in the Glee Club. Though, she’s not going to pass up an opportunity for a great insult, but now they come from a place of love instead of hate.

Annie Willow

I really enjoy this episode, I'm not a fan of season 3 or of Michael Jackson but this episode is strong. I love Blaine's voice in the starting song, I love the moment with Kurt and his dad and I love the messages throughout the episode. But just a couple of things I want to say. Firstly you just talked about Mercedes voice in Human Nature, everyone just talks about her, but I think Sam's voice is beautiful. He deserves WAY more credit from everyone than he gets. Yes his voice isn't the most powerful and strong but he has such a beautiful and soft tone. I love the way he sounds. And also I don't think Rachel was trying to steal Kurt's moment about the NYADA letter, she was just in total shock when he hold her and she broke down without thinking. I know what that's like. It can be perceived as rude from an outside perspective but it's not meant in that way. I honestly think Rachel is misunderstood by people all the time, she's my favourite character because I see a lot of myself in her. I'm autistic and people constantly think I'm being rude or mean or awful when that's not my intention at all. And I'm not saying that Rachel is autistic too, but just that every single mean or rude or unreasonable thing she does has reason behind it and she ALWAYS makes things right in the end. Every time. She's not a bad person and it sucks that no one else can see that. I've seen you say Audrey that you don't like her much and most people share that opinion. I just wish more people would see her in the way that I do. That's all. 💕 Oh and if you want some new music that's about deeper stuff you HAVE to listen to Joshua Bassett's new EP Sad Songs In A Hotel Room. They're songs about the mental health crisis he went through a couple of years ago. The songs are heartbreaking but utterly beautiful.

Siobhan Linehan

Darren Criss had taken the lead for a three week run in How to Succeed In Business on broadway. He needed some time off from Glee to be in the performances. Thus the slushee and eye surgery plot line. It was fun rewatching this episode! I am an older Gleek (41) and have seen the entire series multiple times. It’s been over a year since I’ve done a full rewatch and I have enjoyed watching all of these episodes with you. I know way too many details about this show! haha

Jenn

I loved all the music in this episode too. I was an 80s baby (born in 81) so I grew up hearing all these songs on repeat. Audrey in addition to these songs, you should also review the Warblers singing "I Want You Back" in the deleted scene on YouTube. It's this episode that had me thinking that Blaine and Santana had way more of a backstory and friendship than we got shown because of how hard she went against the warblers for him. Naya has said that the producers would direct her in specific ways that she felt held her back like when she did "The Boy is Mine" she told Kevin that they wouldn't let her do it like she wanted to so I wouldn't be surprised if the same was the case in "Smooth Criminal." And it is considered assault to throw an open container beverage on another person. I've had married couple clients press charges against each other for throwing water from open containers at each other during session (which is why I have banned liquids during these sessions). I found it out from the police that you can press charges because there could be anything in those containers that can cause serious damage (like acid or in this case rock salt). I didn't agree with Kurt's way of handling that situation at all. Knowing how smart and shrewd Santana is, I'm positive she probably kept copies, lol, but I did feel bad that she went through all that trouble and took a slushy to the face and then they sang a song about it...

Gemma Rivera

told Audrey to check NLT out before. Travis Garland most especially 👌 - Khail

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Quinn finally getting a solo 👏🏻 but just as she’s happy, get ready for the writers to completely throw her storyline into the fire

Rheannon

They had the slushy plotline with Blaine so that Darren could take medical leave for 2 weeks or something I think

Shani Gribben

s3 is so great with the songs that’s why this, 3x16 and 17 are some of my favorites song wise they are just so good

fry

That’s a deleted scene

SuBin Kim

never can say goodbye is genuinely one of my favorite glee songs

fry

Kevin McHale who plays Artie was actually in a boy band before Glee called Not Like Them and has released solo music the last few years Also the blonde Warbler you mentioned who had his hair in his face at one point is Ryker Lynch and was in a band called R5 with 3 of his siblings and a friend of the family. He's also the older brother of Ross Lynch who was in some Disney stuff like the show Austin and Ally and the Disney movie musicals Teen Beach Movie and Status Update

Jay Johnston

Was this the entire episode? I remembered the Warblers doing "I Want You Back".

Magmonn

Absolutely love the "Smooth Criminal" and "Human Nature" covers featured in this episode. Both songs are easily within my top 20 covers from Glee and 2 of my favorite duets from Glee.
