yea I feel like that song itself is problematic

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

whaat really!? where can I find it?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Audrey, the lower parts that you're loving that you think are Quinn are also Naya. Her range was incredible and she sounds really good even in her lower register (especially when she sang More Than a Woman with Kurt and Finn and she sang the lower part). Just more of a testament to how versatile she was as a singer as she could sing pretty much any genre as well as in a wide range of registers.

i’m actually glad brittany didn’t sing this with santana cause it would have been odd with the lyrics tbh but they should have thrown the whole performance away. santana actually has a great song at the end of this episode called constant craving and she sounds so so good it’s one of my absolute favorite glee songs i hope you can react to it

I think Rachel sang it with Santana because she wanted her to know she supported her. Plus, Rachel and Finn are kind of the leaders of the glee club. Considering that Rachel and Santana don’t really like each other and what happened before this, I think that they’re kind of trying to mend the relationship a little.

still mad they had this as a duet between santana and rachel instead of santana and brittany for obvious reasons... love the song but there was also tons of others that would be a better choice for the storyline also i just wish there were more santana/brittany duets :(

Totally agree with your comment here and below. I personally find Fletcher's revamp of "I kissed a girl" way more relatable and I like to imagine "Santana" singing that version: girls, girls, girls https://youtu.be/rzV9fgb-bsI

This song was perfect for Naya but not for Santana and Rachel. It’s so problematic for the storyline as well as Girls Just Want to Have Fun. They both completely downplay what she had been going through. Really this episode and the previous were problematic but Naya was an absolute shining star in them, especially when you add in her deleted coming out scene, which still pisses me off that they deleted her actual coming out scene in her coming out episode.

This song is about an experimental hookup with a girl at a party hoping her boyfriend doesn't mind. There are many songs that would have been a good duet choice for Santana & Brittany but this wasn't it. (The best part is totally Kurt and Blaine 😂)

The song itself is problematic AF within the story line* but it's interesting to listen to the vocal analysis outside of that. * Lesbian in a relationship who just came to terms with her sexuality is singing a song about experimentally hooking up with a girl at a party hoping her boyfriend doesn't mind. At least they had Rachel sing the boyfriend lines. I guess the idea was this was a way for the "straight" girls in the group to support her.

Right that’s what I’m saying it makes no sense for Rachel to sing this just shows u that they used her voice way to much

The only thing I don’t like about this song is how Rachel is singing instead of Brittany like it makes sense for Britt and San to sing this not San and Rachel but other then that I love the performance

I agree with you about about some songs just not fitting Lea or sounding like she straining her voice. I've said since I've watched Glee that certain singing voices of the actors on the show fit specific genres best such as Cory (Finn) sounding the best on rock songs, Chris (Kurt) sounding the best on Broadway songs, Kevin (Artie) sounding the best on Pop and R&B songs, Heather (Brittany) sounding the best on Pop songs, etc. In my opinion Lea's voice sounded the best on Broadway songs and Ballads her singing Pop songs was always very hit or miss for me. With Naya I always thought she was the most versatile singer on Glee. She could sing any genre and she would change her voice to fit the song yet it didn't sound like she was straining her voice. In my opinion Naya's voice sounded best on Pop songs and R&B/Soul songs she did on Glee but she also sounded good singing Broadway/Theatrical songs and because she had a raspiness to her voice she also sounded good on covers that were Jazz/Blues songs and Folk/Country/Rock songs. I've always said I could easily name 10 of my favorite covers Naya did as Santana and they would uniquely be in at least 5 different genres of music.

Since the song was about Santana finally coming out, it would have made sense as a solo. I guess they wanted the other girls included to show that they support her.

Rasha

I absolutely agree that this should have been a naya solo or done with Britt, Quinn (which would make more sense given what had just happened in the scene before this, or even Tina (and that's a stretch, the only reason I say Tina is because this was her audition song for the New Directions...all the way back in episode one!). I feel like it loses some of the impact storyline wise, but I hear what you mean when listening closely to the two voices even as they sing together. The more impactful parts of the song are when Naya brings her passion. She really is so good at adapting her vocals to the song she's singing while still reminding us that it's still her with her unique signature

Gemma Rivera

You’re preaching to the choir on this one. It boggles the mind as to why Rachel/Lea is singing THIS song w/ Santana?? If anyone should be singing with her, uh, maybe it should be Britt, her gf….? 🤦🏽‍♀️ Anywho… my favorite part of the video is Kurt and Blaine in the back filming like proud dads!!

Amber Harrison

This song was from Santana's coming out episode, as was Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
