Thomas Attractor POPs TUTORIAL

The stable build of POPs is finally out!

let's try to make a strange tractor in just three operators :)

and a few extra just for flavor.

okVJ on Github

Just wanted to inform you that okVJ and related stuff is available on GitHub
https://github.com/ok-vj/okVJ-Shared

It VJ BunBun and my live performance tools that we use for shows. There are a some effects, utilities, and UI tools. That helps to speed up the process of turning a patch to a live file.

It's being continuously updated, tweaked, and added to. The intention is to keep it as modular as pos...

As I'm working on some POPs stuff, here's a slightly crunchy TD tutorial on making ASCII renders in two ways. Just for fun.

okVJ - discount code for live performance tools

This year, for me, has been full of making a lot of different live performance patches. For a while, I was trying to create an "all purpos VJ player" - but since every performance is different, and every project is different (that's why we use TD), I instead started trying to develop a toolkit that makes it quicker to build a performance-ready patch.

These are the tools that VJ BunBun and I have been using internally for the better part of this year, and they've been developing and chan...

with some love for color - RGB-post processing FXs

I've been playing with some post processing effects lately. and I've been on a quest to find fun ways to work with color. So I spent the weekend putting together some RGB chromatic aberration post-processing effects I've been using into manageable TOXes - for you :)

They can be used as post-processing effects for your scenes, live cam or poster design. Chain them together and turn some knobs.

RGB ASCII:that renders RGB independently - and with characters that can be updated i...

procedural terrain in POPs and TOPs

Procedural terrain in POPs. Leveraging the insane amount of surfaces we can get in POPs. The noise is translated along normals - so it's not limited to flat surfaces.

There is also a TOP version of the noise also.

This component is drawing inspiration on work by Lake Heckaman - a wonderful creator if you have somehow missed him.

Treat this as a prototype - and not necessarilly particularly optimized.

TUTORIAL MICRO PROJECT #1

it is a lovely challenge

TUTORIAL storms in teacups - using 2d fluid sims and a simple GLSL particle system.

here's the first part for a tutorial for a little fluid sim project.
-----
would you in general be interested in tutorials that use more GLSL?
I've tried to stay away from it because it is pretty niche - and also I've kinda sucked at it.

But lately, due to some projects that required it, and sheer force of will, I've been writing a lot of shader-code and have really started enjoying it. It can be a lot more versatile, concise, and performant than TOPs. and as I said - actuall...

2d fluid sim

I've been playing for a while with 2d, grid based, fluid sims.

Now - there are already a lot of great tools out there:
Paketa12 recently uploaded a lovely TOPs only fluid sim.
And three dashes has a youtube tutorial on how to write one with GLSL in touchdesigner.
and ofcourse Joseph Peltz and MiniUV have their 3D system.

This is very inspired by three dashes' tutorial - the architecture is similar.

But I wanted to show some ways that you can use a 2D fluid sim to...

Audio Analysis Cleaner triggers

I can't be the only one who dislikes creating triggers from audio. They always have to manually tuned - and it's usually a guessing game.

I wanted to make an audio analysis component that has visual feedback on where the trigger happens. so here it is.

It is a component made from three narrow bandpass filters. The center - frequency of the filters can be set from the UI.

it can also be a more traditional lowpass - bandpass- highpass filter - this can be changed in the par...

explorations of a 2d displacement

Here's a file with a few options of how to render a 2d displacement. Just enough to get you started on your own.

A few of you have asked how I make UIs - to which my answer is - badly.

But here's a quick example of how to make a really simple one. In case of a live gig - use the scene-changer, from the palette, not a switch.

happy you are here :)

while working on the next tutorial, I got a little bit side-tracked and made this thing for you.

Have fun with it, it's probably a lot of joy with some motion controls.

control it with the mouse in the panel. right and left click have some different reactions.

cheers

Jiggle TOPs

Here's a little work in progress.

First, creating a grid connected by rows or columns without needing to go to SOPs. So we can make really large Joy Division visuals.

and some jiggly movement - because it's fun.

Love you all

Anyways, it's been about a year since I started uploading tutorials on the request from some people on reddit.

A year ago I was just an idiot with a computer. now, in large part thanks to you wonderful people who support me on Patreon, I am now an idot with a computer as a full time job.

I'm seriously incredibly grateful to you all.

Thank you for your support, looking forward to sharing a lot more ideas with you.

and I've been struggling to make something that isn't an eye strain inducing mess. But I feel like if you struggle through the headache, there are a lot of possibilities there.
