STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor - HDR Optimized Settings
Added 2023-04-28 10:10:16 +0000 UTC
The game DOES USE/APPLY Xbox & Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.
Even if the game actually leverages the system-level HDR Calibration apps, it actually had a very broken HDR implementation which got fixed with Patch 4.

(SDR on PS5 on the left; Broken HDR on PS5 on the right, when using the correct settings on the console) --> FIXED WITH PATCH 4

(Broken HDR also on Xbox, capped at 500 nits max when using the correct settings on the console) --> FIXED WITH PATCH 4
Once you've correctly setup the system HDR Calibration app (for HGIG or DTM), you can then proceed with the following in-game HDR settings:

In all cases leave both HDR Brightness and HDR Black Point to theirs Default setting (50) as they already provide a balanced exposure and contrast.
If for your specific TV you notice a bit too black crush, you can increase HDR Black Point to 51 or 52.
BONUS:
Disable Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration: to improve picture clarity
On Consoles: use Performance Mode as the game plays much better at 60fps with lower input lag
On PC: Try my new optimization mod for it and let me know how it goes ;)
Enjoy ;)

2025-06-16 15:32:46 +0000 UTCIt's really personal preference. Leave default for best accuracy.

2023-09-17 01:08:36 +0000 UTCThat's the intended look when HGIG or the system HDR Calibration are properly configured now. The sun you're seeing in other HDR video is probably overblow due to the camera being used which cannot pick the HDR luminance and therefore adjust their exposure accordingly.

2023-05-12 14:04:24 +0000 UTCHey dude. The sun in mine appears as a well defined disc. If that makes sense. Other videos I've seen about HDR in this game, the sun looks great, you can't make out a disc shape. Any ideas? I'm on a C2 btw

2023-05-12 14:00:46 +0000 UTCI personally have it to 25

2023-05-10 06:37:06 +0000 UTCWhat's the black level recommendation on a cx? What would you go for? My TV's colour calibrated

2023-05-09 15:05:11 +0000 UTCÈ una bomba nucleare finora. Incredibile con tutto una volta configurato bene!

2023-05-09 14:53:21 +0000 UTCSo if I’m on PC do I use the HDR calibrations app to make another profile?

2023-04-29 13:01:43 +0000 UTCThank you, I actually don't like how bright DTM on looks like so it is good to know DTM off is also ok.

2023-04-28 23:56:29 +0000 UTCHi, in very simple terms: when you cannot set a game to exactly match the HGIG configuration for your TV (for example you can't set it exactly to 800 nits for most LG OLEDs or 1.000 nits for LG G2 or 1.500 nits for LG G3) it's better to stick to DTM: Off (which will be more accurate) or DTM: On (which will be brighter, but less accurate in night/dark scenes). On G3 specifically: DTM On may not be needed at all anymore considering how bright it has become while staying accurate.

2023-04-28 21:34:27 +0000 UTCFrostbite was never that good at it either. Remember Mass Effect Andromeda? I can’t remember a single EA game made in the last 10 years that wasn’t FUBAR with bugs upon release.

2023-04-28 19:15:35 +0000 UTCHi, I have a general question about the DTM. In your post you wrote that DTM should be turned off or turned on almost as if there is no difference between these settings. Previously, it seemed to me that you should either set HGiG in case you can control peak luminance, or DTM on if not. Now I see that you wrote about turning DTM off, and I'm a little bit lost. From what I understand is if DTM is off the TV will not map the curve properly and details can be lost. I know you've probably gotten this question many times before, but could you at least refer me to an article that explains this?
Oskar Wysokiński
2023-04-28 18:20:09 +0000 UTCIt is another engine though. AFAIK Battlefield games and Dead Space Remake are using Frostbite (as most EA games nowadays) but Respawn got a green light on developing their games with Unreal Engine so maybe they don't have HDR stuff figured out as Frostibe games have.
Oskar Wysokiński
2023-04-28 18:04:16 +0000 UTCYep, that should also help. Maybe try those two methods and pick the one which looks less bad or just wait for a proper patch (if it will ever come)...

2023-04-28 16:11:22 +0000 UTCSo disappointed HDR is broken on PS5, I loaded it up looking terrible. There's a workaround online to set the black point in the system calibration to one click from the bottom, I haven't tried it myself yet.
David Soto
2023-04-28 16:10:14 +0000 UTCMost probably. At least you can try my proposed work arounds to much improve it in the meanwhile ;)
P40L0
2023-04-28 11:55:50 +0000 UTCConsidering it’s EA I wouldn’t get your hopes up, but maybe if enough people scream at EA about it it’ll be patched 6 months to a year from now.
Jay Corbin
2023-04-28 11:54:12 +0000 UTCAhah, it may be true but Battlefield and Battlefront series have much better HDR implementation instead. Even Dead Space with its fixed 7.000 nits Peak is much better than this, so hopefully they'll sort it out?
P40L0
2023-04-28 11:52:01 +0000 UTCSo in other words Fallen Survivor is a typical EA game.
