Callisto Protocol - HDR Optimized Settings
Added 2022-12-03 09:58:30 +0000 UTC
The game DOES USE/APPLY Xbox & Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.
The game has an average/problematic HDR implementation.
It does read and apply the system-level HDR calibration up to 1.000 nits, but it will still offer an in-game HDR Brightness slider which, as soon as you will touch it, will totally disregard the system HDR settings and shift to the in-game calibration...which has no numerical value at all so do not touch it in-game.
After system-level calibration is setup correctly for your TV, just launch the game and Confirm it as is when prompted.
UPDATE: If you don't like the system HDR Calibration results (e.g. if they are too dim) and deliberately want to bypass/improve them with the in-game slider, try increasing it by +4 Clicks from Default/Middle position.

That said, the game intentionally has raised blacks as a stylistic choice (similar to what RE2: R had) which you cannot adjust in-game this time tho.
It is the same thing also with calibrated SDR (but there you can "adjust" it literally by crushing blacks selecting the wrong in-game setting of sRGB).
If you really don't like it in HDR, you can directly lower the TV HDR Brightness from Default to something around 43-44 to compensate (but I don't recommend it).
UPDATE #2:

After patch 1.12 now the game added a "Black Point Correction" slider, but even a slight change of -1 click from default will severely crush blacks... :/
So I recommend to leave it to the default/middle position as, right now, is basically useless...
BONUS:
- Performance Mode @ 60fps is recommended on XSX|PS5 (actual visual differences are not so big, but the jump from 30 to 60fps is huge and 60fps are also locked after latest patch)
- Turn Film Grain: Off: as it will improve both clarity and contrast of the picture.
Enjoy ;)

The new black level setting (New/legacy), it’s not only for the PS5 Pro, but also for the PS5. With DTM on my LG C7, I set Black Level on New, Black Point Correction to minimum and Brightness to +34 clicks, I kindy like it this way. I am curious to have your opinion on this feature :)

2025-04-24 21:48:20 +0000 UTCI know I may sound a bit harsh, but I don't and won't have a PS5 Pro (the price is crazy for the only marginal improvement it offers). Could you tell me the name and values of the new sliders? E.g. Peak Brightness: from 0 to 10.000 (nits) or 0-100?

2024-11-20 09:21:50 +0000 UTCThere is a new PS5 pro patch that came out yesterday with the new brightness options Legacy and New.

2024-11-20 07:58:54 +0000 UTCLast time I test it was still best to not touch then compared to default or you will crash or overexposed blacks...

2024-11-20 07:43:07 +0000 UTCI was wondering about this too. You choose between the two in the graphics options but I don’t really understand the difference.

2024-11-20 05:16:33 +0000 UTCWasn't that patch 1.12? I've already covered it in the post. Or there was another one?

2024-11-19 22:22:26 +0000 UTCThere is a new update with new black level options, legacy/new. Could you please re-check?

2024-05-16 04:19:33 +0000 UTCI would stick with default and use HGIG with LG G2, while 2.000 it's good for LG G3/G4 (both HGIG and DTM)

2024-04-27 17:37:20 +0000 UTCThe latest update fixes the Black Point Correction so I would recommend putting it to the lowest level. I have a G4 so I moved the brightness slider up a bit. My question is about the seperate "Nits" setting. It jumps from 1,000 to 2,000. So I just left it at 1,000. Any advice?

2023-10-12 16:25:39 +0000 UTCSo even if a game is only 1000 nits you recommend fmm+allm?
Cem Sengul
2023-10-12 16:23:49 +0000 UTCOn G3 always stick to ALLM + FMM + DTM: On. It will always look better than HGIG, even if you can't reach 4.000 nits with it.

2023-10-12 16:22:39 +0000 UTCFor this game do you recommend HGIG on a G3 since it has 1500 nits and the game is 1000 nits? Should I stick with filmmaker mode and allm?
Cem Sengul
2023-10-12 16:21:30 +0000 UTCNo, as it's actually really well done and adds to the cinematic experience.

2022-12-13 23:27:56 +0000 UTCYou're the man, Paolo! I'm already playing it. Believe it or not, I had already calibrated it for dynamic tone mapping and did not touch the brightness. You have taught me well, my friend. Cheers!

2022-12-06 22:15:51 +0000 UTCThank you for this, I thought the developers were going for the raised blacks. I didn’t want to touch my LG brightness
