Resident Evil: Village - HDR Optimized Settings

The game is NOT using/applying Xbox/Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.

The game has a good HDR implementation with a proper numerical Peak HDR Brightness (up to 4.000 nits) and Paper White controls, even if not in "nits".

NOTE: There was a bug on Playstation version which limited the HDR output of the game to 400 nits only (no matter what you select), but this should have been fixed along the way.

If you have an LG OLED and:

> you're using Dynamic Tone Mapping or Dynamic Contrast:

> you're using HGIG:

If you don't have an LG OLED and:

> you don't have an HGIG option:

> you're using HGIG:

After latest patch, this second Brightness (HDR) slider is now broken as default middle value is too dark for a proper HDR rendition. In order to fix it set the "Brightness HDR" (Paper White) setting to Max (All the way to the right, Brightest value). Peak luminance will be restored and pure black still preserved.

3 (every time you have to decide if being a little lower or a little higher than your exact nits, choose higher!)

I have Bravia X90L with 1225 nits according to rtings and I want to use HGIG, what brightness slider should I use, 2 or 3?

Blanche

Yep, it's all still the same

P40L0

I'm guessing the second slider still isn't fixed and won't be since they moved on to re4 remake and are probably gearing up for dragons dogma 2?

So for the lg cx it should be: 1 slider is -4, second slider is all the way to the rigth?

Evgeniy

Nope...

P40L0

Hi! Still second slider doesn’t fixed?

Evgeniy

Still the same.

P40L0

Hey, do you have any idea if the second HDR slider is now fixed?

Raikidd

Thanks for the info! I really do love the HDR implementation and thanks for informed settings like always!

Nothing changed so far, so should be the same on PC still.

Did this Paper White slider ever get fixed? On PC, I’m still wondering if it needs to be dialed in all the way max still. Thanks for all the help!

Yes, I have applied everything for LG OLED2019-2022 Xbox Series X + HGiG. Is there a way to measure the nits, maybe some debug layer? I am not sure I have chosen correct value in the game

Are you sure you have applied all the suggested settings for both the console and the TV by following this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/lg-2017-2022-for-63754947 ? All Assassins's Creed are bugged under 1.000 nits, so even when using HGIG don't use 800 nits in-game but 1.000 to avoid muting the entire HDR picture. For RE: Village it could be changed after latest patch: try increase that screen slider until the squares will vanish to a full white square.

Hi, I have LG OLED CX with XBOX Series X and I use your HGiG config, but for me it looks not correct. For AC Odyssey the image is very pale, I decided to try Resident Evil Village (I remember the picture was great when I playing it a year ago), but I see the "Brightness" screen looks very different for me as well. On your screenshot square is not visible at all in the middle position, but I still see the square (I would say barely visible) almost at top position. Am I doing something wrong? https://photos.app.goo.gl/PAqoWvgZ8kXVHt6y6
