Platform instability: Big Update, Please Read
Added 2024-04-19 21:11:02 +0000 UTCI want to give you all a big update, but to do that it would take forever to explain all the moving parts.
So, the short of it is:
1. Patreon is precarious
2. Gumroad is precarious
By which I mean: both platforms have been prohibiting the distribution of the particular kind of content that I want to create. I have so far escaped unscathed, but there have been cases were a creator's entire earned income has been taken away from them. The sudden collapse of a platform can really, really mess my future plans.
Combine this, with the ongoing enshittification of both Twitter and DeviantArt, and I am seeing diminishing returns on the simple act of posting my content online.
As such, my long-term goal is to cultivate a more direct relationship with fans. How I get to that, I still haven't decided. I have been meaning to create my own website for years, but I don't think I am there yet.
In the short term, there are two big changes:
1. SubscribeStar: I will be fully migrating to SubscribeStar as of June 2024. After which I will stop using Patreon entirely. This has been an opportunity to plan out months worth of drawing and new content, so expect an even better offering over there starting now.
As you may have noticed already, I have updated the branding to accompany this.
2. Gumroad migration: I have not decided how to approach this yet, but it will happen in the next two months.
In the meantime, I will continue posting here on Patreon, but the current slowdown on social media means that I am focusing on creating a backlog of content, which will start to show up online very soon.
