All Menu Portrait Backgrounds!

Remember a while back when I mentioned that character portraits would be getting cute, colorful backgrounds? Well here they all are!!

You'll see that there is a "basic" background that pretty much all townspeople/less important side characters get- but aside from that, all of these backgrounds are unique!

Naomi Sprite Mouth Fix

Get ready for a reaaal boring update today haha.

So, since 2022 when Evoria first launched, Naomi has had this weird chin-mouth thing where her mouth is slightly too low on her sprite. I finally went in and fixed that!! Now she looks normal!! And not like a pug with a squished nose!!

(The first image is after I fixed it, the second is before the fix!)

Again, sorry this is a lame thing to update you guys on. I promise I'm working hard on tangible features, but I really don't wanna spoil much more from Chapter 10!! I promise I'll have more fun updates later, just bear with me!!

Scrapped Feature: Icon Nametags

Here's something new I'm gonna try- This is a scrapped feature! I could never figure out a way to get this working in-game, but I figured it would still be interesting to share the process!

I considered giving the character nametags special fonts (Kinda like what Danganronpa V3 does with its weird little nametags) but I couldn't quite figure out how to change just the name box font, so I had to go back to the drawing board there.

I tried what you see here- Each letter is a separate icon (Like the icons for items or gear you'd see in the menus) and the name box is rendering each icon separately to form its words.

I'm sure you can see the problem- it's just too big!! This would be way too distracting and makes the text boxes take up too much space on the screen.

Eventually I scrapped this in favor of the portrait background boxes, which I think was the right choice to make!

But yeah, I hope you guys find this interesting!! I've got plenty more scrapped features to share haha, so you might see more stuff like this in the future!

Evorotocin Research Notes!

What's that? You want there to be ANOTHER collectible in the game? Well, today's your lucky day!!

Over the journey, Mitzi has been secretly conducting studies on all our favorite Evoria-capable characters! Over the course of your journey, you'll occasionally find papers strewn about on the ground. (With a telltale sparkling over them, of course!) Interact with them, and you'll be able to read Mitzi's research in your Adventurer's Database!

These entries all contain various bits of data on the Evoria gals, their eating habits, and how they interact with their magic! For people who really like to read up on deep lore and worldbuilding stuff (Like I do!), I hope you'll have fun with these!!

I also made the postcards their own separate category in the Adventurer's Database, with all the more worldbuilding-type stuff moved to a new "Lore" category!

Lilith Eats the Evoria Universe: Part Four

Enlisting Trixie's help, Lilith manages to con Cecily the barkeep into being her next meal! But before eating her, Lilith decides to better prepare the girl for her trip into Lilith's carvernous gut...

It's Lilith time!! Woohoo!! I had a lot of fun writing this bonus scene and I hope you can tell! Lilith and Trixie's dynamic is so interesting, and it's fun having different versions of it in-game and in these bonus scenes! Plus, it's always fun writing some good post-vore flaunting.

And just like with last month, look at what SeaBea did!! There are THREE unique pieces of scene art created specifically for this bonus scene!! One of them is here in the thumbnail, but as for the other two, you'll have to watch the scene for yourself to see it!! Everybody say "Thank you SeaBea" in unison now!

Blank Naomi - Evoria Dev Commentary #31

Dev commentary time!!! Yahoo!! We're getting to the end of Chapter 6 now, this one focuses on the Blank Naomi fight and the scenes that follow!!

New Encounter Effects!

Here's something fun that some of you may have seen in the more recent dev commentaries- there are new effects before the start of each battle!

It's got a pretty cool crystalline crackling effect- and it's especially cool during Chapter 10's pseudo-stealth segment!

Scene Rewrites!!

This is something I swore I would never do when starting out (I have a firm belief that if you spend to much time redoing old stuff, you'll never get time to make new stuff) but since Chapter 10 is probably gonna be a lot of peoples' first time playing through ALL of Evoria, I rewrote some older scenes to better fit current characterizations/my writing style now! Here's a rundown of what changed:

Renee-Naomi Post Slime Scenes

Made Renee less dramatic about the idea of being eaten. Originally, this was supposed to be a setup for Naomi's stomach being super powerful, but I found more organic ways to mention that later in the game. Also put a little more emphasis on the "Naomi rescued Renee just because she likes her" aspect of it!

Thieves' Guild Intro

Changed Sasha from the group's silvertongue to just the leader. Fun fact, Sasha was actually meant to take part in a boss battle with Dexter at the end of Chapter 2, but that ended up being cut. She still has equipment and special skills on the status menu, though!

Naomi-Renee Conflict: Chapter 2 End

Made the scene as a whole less melodramatic. Also gave Renee a little more reason to want to steal from the town center- so that they can have money to keep moving while on the run from the Modernites. Naomi is now less upset about the "stealing" aspect, and is more upset that Renee is willing to leave behind all the people still in Easthaven.

Chapter 3 Ending Crow's Nest Scene

The scene is now focused on Renee and Naomi becoming a true hero "belly sister" duo rather than having a fixation on "finding stability." (I still don't quite remember what that was supposed to be about haha)

Chapter 4 Inn Renee Morning Scene

Renee no longer immediately discounts Naomi talking about Eve, and instead is just like "Let's focus on the task at hand for now."

Naomi Friendship Post-Lilith Belly

Lilith is friendly to Naomi, but still stays a little closed-off to better fit her continued characterization. Naomi is also a little less focused on "What it means to be an adult" (Once again, I have no idea what three-years-ago FP was thinking)

Naomi Blank Digestion Chapter 6

Back when I was writing this scene, I let the vore brain take over and had Naomi fantasize about gaining weight to wear a bikini. That's pretty out of character, so those lines have been removed. Naomi likes eating a lot (and the idea of eating people) because she likes feeling full and she kinda likes being big and squishy, she's not really as sexual with it.

There's a few other scenes with rewrites, but those are mainly smaller tweaks, like slightly changed-up wordings and things. Hopefully all these changes make the game a lot more smooth and enjoyable as a whole!!

Renee and Lilith have their own forms of power now- Renee's got the most powerful member of the Elfocitta mafia jiggling on her thighs and Lilith has Trixie working with her to keep herself from being Lilith's next meal! What could be next? Who will even win this massive eating contest? That's for you to decide!!

And like always if you guys wanna, feel free to comment which Evoria character you think SHOULD be eaten next!! It's always fun hearing you guys' suggestions!

Portrait Backgrounds!

Here's a work-in-progress update- Character portraits now have unique backgrounds!!

These are based on how the character portraits look on the menu and in battle, I think giving them the little outlines and backgrounds gives them a little more sense of place! That way they don't just abruptly cut off when the square ends like usual!

Let me know what you guys think!! Like I said, this is still a work-in-progress, so the designs might change before Chapter 10's release!

Chapter 10 Trailer

Finally!! Actual footage of Chapter 10!!

Funnily enough, this trailer was made a good while back, so lots of stuff in here is already outdated haha. But I think it still gives you a good idea of the locales and mechanics you can expect in Chapter 10!

This chapter is probably gonna be shorter than most of you would expect, but it's also very different than anything else done in Evoria so far. And that is all I will say on the matter.

And while I'm very much in the "I don't wanna say anything about Chapter 10, no spoilers" mode, I have hidden a few hints and secrets in stuff I've been posting. What kinds of secrets? Well, you'll just have to figure that out for yourself...

Revised title cards!!

Here's an update that will mostly be exciting to me- but the chapter title cards have received an overhaul!!

I got tired of everything being off-centered, so I switched stuff up!! I also changed a lot of the shadowy scene art used in each title card!! I think the new choices are a little more fitting!! (Especially the huge Lilith haha)

The second image is the old Chapter 1 title card, just for comparison's sake!! The new ones look a lot cleaner!!

I also changed the subtitle for Chapter 5, the old one "Face the Music" was a temporary choice that never replaced haha, so I decided to go with one of the needle drops from that chapter "My Own Worst Enemy!"

New Renee Portraits!!

A few of you might've noticed from the bonus scene, but SeaBea's done up some awesome new Renee portraits!! It's really neat seeing how far things have come since the beginning!! (Especially since the old "RPGMaker template" days, but things have improved so much even since SeaBea's first set of portraits!!)

She looks great, her outfit matches her scene art, and she's got some super fun new expressions!! Look forward to seeing the new and improved Renee in Chapter 10 when it releases!! (It's coming along well, but I am still in anti-spoiler mode haha, maybe soon things will change...)

Stealth (ish) Mechanic Test!

Okay, here's a real teaser for Chapter 10! (Kinda!)

There's a stealth segment coming up, but typical stealth mechanics are almost never fun to play in video games, so I changed it up a little! Now, instead of sending you back to the start when you get caught, the enemy just fights you!!

I tested this some in the debug room (Which you can tell from the weird backgrounds and various characters standing around) so it's still a little non spoilery!! I even considered changing the battle, but I figured that'd be a fine teaser haha. Anyways, that's all for now, stay tuned for more updates!!

Evoria Outline - Circa 2022

With work on Chapter 10 well underway, I have entered my "Don't show anyone anything about the game, no spoilers ever" mode!! I'll definitely tease some areas later on but for the time being, let's look through some old outlines, programmer art, and older notes I used to plan out the game!!

This in particular is one of the first "full" outlines of the game I ever wrote!! This was hastily scrawled down on my phone (probably while I was on the train or something) in July of 2022!! I can't remember the exact dates of everything, but there is a good chance this outline predates SeaBea working on the game! (It definitely predates even Chapter 2's release!)

It's also neat seeing how much Mitzi is mentioned here- Her character and whole bad guy to good guy arc was something that was always going to be a big focus on the game- I'd argue that her character was one of the first ones that I really "figured out." (Which is why she's always been one of my favorites to write haha)

This is just something I thought would be fun to share to tide you guys over while work on Chapter 10 continues chugging along!! Stay tuned for more fun stuff like this!! (And of course some -small- teasers for the chapter itself!)

What did you think of Chapter 9?

Chapter 9 is out!! I feel like it's been so long since we've had a story-focused update!! I was starting to miss it! This one in particular has been on my mind a lot, there has been a lot of writing and rewriting character motivations to make that -thing- that happened make sense story-wise and emotionally. So I really wanna hear you guys' thoughts- how was everything?

Chapter 10 is turning out to be -far- more complex than I had originally planned, so get excited for that! I know it's sad knowing we're near the finish line, but don't worry- I'm always gonna be around making stuff! In fact, I already have some plans for something else... But who knows when we'll see that...

Evoria Chapter 9!

Ha!! It's here!! Get excited!!

With the sidequest update, I feel like it's been so long since we've seen the story progress!! Well, progress it will- Chapter 9 is out early on Patreon!! There's a lot here, check the patch notes-

THE STORY CONTINUES!

- With the Master of Evoria's diary in hand, now our heroes just need to translate it! To do that, they'll need to find the Rosetta Crystal, a slimegirl treasure! The journey will now take them to the swamps of Fluoritia!

OVER 40 NEW PIECES OF SCENE ART!

- That's right!! With more story comes more amazing art!!! As usual, SeaBea did some amazing stuff, you'll have to see it all for yourself!!

- An entirely new animation!! This one's really good too, look forward to seeing it in-game!

- Lots of older art tweaks too, including revised face portraits for the guards, Calypso, elf mafia members, and a new battler for the guard!

OTHER FUN STUFF!

- The former New Pax Botanical Gardens (located north of the museum) have been converted into a Fan Art Gallery! (Or, was it a FINE art gallery?) This features 18 different pieces of fan art done by artists like Calavasín, Buckets, Genpis-Chong, VectorFlatArt, ClinkoClinko, Burner2TheGround, DeuzzYeager, Oskar 81, TheBoy, and Foccasion!! A special round of applause to all those amazing artists, thanks for letting me include your awesome pieces in the game!!

- You'll find various sparkly newspaper boxes around the world containing new art pieces of various headlines! There are a total of XX to find! Once you've found them, you can check out the Newspaper Gallery in Southeast New Pax to view them at any time!

- 18 New fish can now be found in New Pax and Glumberwood! They can only be caught by having :REDACTED: fish. Huh, that's odd...

- 4 new museum entries have been added based on various scenes in Chapter 9!

- 2 new quests for the Quest Log! Both are main story-focused!

- 33 new Adventurer's Database entries!! (Counting the new fish!) There's a lot of stuff here!!

SMALLER CHANGES!

- New items have been added to various stores and chests around the world! Saltwater, which cures confusion. Rubber Ball, which cures paralysis. And Self-Help Book, which removes all debuffs you might have during battle!

- Strange new advertisements have been plastered all around the streets of New Pax... What could they be for?

- Mitzi's "Stop" spell can now be upgraded at the Salon in New Pax, along with two of :REDACTED:'s spells.

- The Quizmaster now has a funny hat and bow tie in his Adventurer's Database portrait. He forgot to wear them the day he met the main party.

- Eve has new face portraits and expressions!! Her dialogue has been tweaked slightly to account for this.

- The doors in the museum have changed color to better match the themes of the chapters they represent.

- Tweaked a LOT of Cherry's older dialogue to better fit her character. (And make her slightly less horny)

TWEAKS/BALANCING!

- Cherry's sprites have been slightly altered to better show off her butt.

- As you head to the president's office to begin the chapter, there will be a debug thing that will turn Pixel Renee back into Regular Renee! (For those who experienced that bug!)

- Bea's sprites have been tweaked very slightly to give her a full smile instead of a smirk.

- Older sidequests and museum entries have been altered to ajust for :REDACTED:

- MP costs have been adjusted for Mitzi's "Stop" and "Confuse" spells for better balancing, these spells also miss slightly more often.

- Cherry's Woeful Melody now debuffs enemies' attack for 3 turns instead of 5.

- The sign at the entrance to Mitzi's lab for the "Bea Philanthropy" sidequest has been changed to a note.

- Renee's "Blasting Frenzy" has been nerfed to only hit three times instead of four

- Fixed an issue of Mitzi's text being centered after entering Mushrow Lake in Chapter 6

- Fixed an issue of Naomi's dialogue in the storage room of the speakeasy in Chapter 2 going outside the text box

- Tweaked dialogue to make Olly more accurately describe the New Pax Convention Center in Chapter 7

- Added debug at the start of the chapter for Cherry to learn "Gulp" and "Digest" skills if she hadn't in the past.

Story-wise, this chapter isn't very long, but it is very dense. There's a lot more stuff here than it seems like at first, hopefully you'll see why when you play it! But this is just the calm before the storm, stay tuned for the next chapter- this is what everything's been leading up to- the grand finale!

Lilith Eats The Evoria Universe - Part Three

Next on the menu is someone Lilith knows personally- Trixie! It's a battle for the ages- who will win? Trixie's silver tongue or Lilith's hungry gut?

It's Lilith's time in the sun yet again!! Now that both her and Renee have made their personal attacks, the true eating contest is on!! How many people can each of them eat before the whole world is reduced to fat on their waistlines?? We'll have to see!!

Special thanks to Genpis-Chong for helping come up with the idea for this bonus scene!! It's a fun twist on the usual "Eats-The-Evoria-Universe" schtick and it lends itself to more continuations!! As soon as I heard the idea for the scene, I was like "Oh shoot, I absolutely have to use that" haha.
