I think a big portion of how things are received in the art world is who the artist is. What I'm trying to say is that if your work were presented as poor Ethiopian girl who has struggled her whole life, then your work would be considered genius. I think all too many times Context out weighs Content. Think about it this way. Imagine if it were Rosie O'Donnell singing Happy Birthday Mr. President to JFK instead of Marilyn Monroe. Same song, but two totally different out comes.
