Soviet Rocket Engine Full Draft Review!!!

Comments

Awesome ! Can't wait for the Buran/Shuttle one 😁

Finally decided to join Patreon just because of this video . I probably have watched all your videos , some of them several times, you are the best space communicator after Carl Sagan.

Awesome vid, so much info. You have inspired me to do an RSS/RO/RP-1 path using only the Russian space program items in Kerbal. Now...after a break you should totally do a vid breaking down the rockets themselves. It is crazy how all the space agencies can be traced to that weapon of terror, that really should never have been such...the V2 (A4)

I'm watching the dialogue cut side by side with the final cut. I like being able to see Tim at the same time as the graphics, I guess similar to a twitch streamer (I don't watch Twitch streamers.) Perhaps this could be implemented into future videos?

If you don't care you don't have to watch it. All you have to do is divide by ten to go from newtons to kg approximately.

Incredible! Check out page 189 of https://library.sciencemadness.org/library/books/ignition.pdf for the secret recipe for 542 seconds of Isp.

I always considered your work as too SpaceX biased, but this video just proved me wrong. I just can't settle on the thought that nothing exciting is currently happening outside of SpaceX. Or, maybe, we just don't know much about it... How many more space related startups are in US alone? I'd really like to know more about them, and i'm sure it will be just as exciting as unearth this old yet mighty engines.

Why not do it in parts

John

Wow, that's a lot of info. A bit dense, but complete. Might I suggest doing a rocket engine chart sometime that shows all of the rocket engines and their thrust/impulse in some kind of order? Heck maybe even as a t-shirt :)

Some of your best work. Bravo!

What can I say. Thank you again.

That’s just amazing! Don’t know how you are able to keep all of that straight. Thanks for an amazing education that couldn’t be found anywhere else!

This is wonderful. Now, take a day and a half off and get ready for your next project. NASA has made an imperative demand upon our community with the OIG report. It plainly states a commercial alternative for getting "27 ton Orion spacecraft" will be available soon. Your tweet today re this, with Dragon-to-LEO, needs a video devoted to it. View it as a nice decompression from your researches, a brief video. Most of the numbers are known, they just have to be presented. Crucially, much confusion exists over returning SS (not HLS) to LEO for Dragon-transfer. Possible re fuel masses, refillings? List the alternatives; carry Orion to the Moon, release it on the way back for reentry. I'll be writing more on your subreddit. I know you'll be in the exalted exhaustion state from delivering your Masters Thesis on Russian engines - just put up a big Post-It for this. Please please.

russian engines especially in as much detail as you go into. I hate to be a wet blanket but I loved your first few series but then ..... oh well

I am curious why you still use newton when Elon told you that was stupid and every day people have no idea how much that is! Use pounds or even Kilograms for goodness sake!!! I admire how much time you spend on research but you are way over the head of about 98% of your supporters for about 90% of the time. How many people care about

Amazing, and interactive webpage where people can explore this would be amazing.

Hi Tim, at 1:21:47, I heard you say "Israel" instead of India. But upon listening to it again, and as noted by Jason noted in the spreadsheet it may have been ISRO that just came across as "Israel"

Tim, that's an amazingly thorough, data rich history. Did you have to travel to Russia for the research? I really look forward to the future deep dive videos you mentioned!

Tim, have you seen the relatively recent feedback to the previous draft in the spreadsheet?

Amazing, Tim! My head is spinning ... and yet, it seems this may only be the basis for an even bigger chart, one across countries and different ideas?! You have started this off, well done.

Please switch the coloring of the hypergolic engines. That organe thing is too close to red in my opinion :)

Beautiful Tim, such an epic piece of work :)

Hi! New supporter here (but long time fan). I love the way you let your supporters participate in your video projects. That's awesome. I have nothing useful to add though except that I really enjoy your videos (and your enthusiasm!). Cheers from the Netherlands.

Great to see it!

Really excited to see this released, Tim, you and your team have really contributed to the historical record, especially in the US. Thank you for creating content like nobody else.

So great! Added a few comments in the excel. Love this form of educational video!

Proud of ya bud 🏄🏻‍♀️

Stretch Batchelor

On it!

Can’t wait to watch this! Motivation to get my thesis proposal finished tonight
