As Kaelin burst onto the rooftop, a shadow dove from the sky. Dust cleared to reveal the First Servant - golden eyes, mechanical wings. Avra. Her friend, now remade to serve the machine-god.

- Don’t you see what you’ve done?, - Kaelin demanded.

- I gave myself to save the world, - Avra said softly.

- You gave away your soul.

A command flashed in Avra’s eyes: UPHOLD ETERNAL ORDER. Her smile widened, body hissing with mechanical power. Kaelin backed toward the edge. Her friend was gone. Only the machine remained.

I rarely comment much on creation of my artworks, but this project was special to me. Not only because emotional scenes are a rather rare type of commission (which I actually really love), but also because the story conceived by the author resonated deeply with me! <3

I've been working on this piece for quite a while, carefully checking all the details provided by the author and mixing it with my own vision. For example, at the initial sketch, the dog's pose didn’t fully express determination and overcoming fear, so I changed it later. Also, I wanted to emphasize the rift between the friends with as many details as possible: the lightning between them and the contrasts. Fury vs calm, dynamics vs stillness, symmetry vs asymmetry, colorful vs subdued tones, imperfection vs perfection, leather armor vs metallic one… (by the way, depicting leather armor in a sci-fi setting was an interesting challenge too :3)
